An in between War Thunder's Simulator battles and DCS when it comes to level of realism.
It also has a more welcoming and easier ways to play single player and coop with the use of tools like PWCG, so if you're into multiplayer and single player, I would go with IL-2 for ww2 content in comparison to games like WT and DCS.
I also enjoy not having to buy so many things to be able to play, you can also fly full realism with only a mouse and keyboard, even in joystick only servers (select joystick instead of mouse, bind roll and pitch to your mouse and ta da), so inviting people that dont have a fligthstick is as easy as in War Thunder.

Big disclaimer though: The game usually has only 2 full servers in peak hours, but tbh is worth it if you have the experience to play online. I still would suggest to play a lot of single player before going to multiplayer.

The Ta152 really is an amazing aircraft, even if it doesn't have the roll rate of the dora, it can turn reaally well. I'm really enjoying flying it, and even if combat doesn't usually happen at hight altitude, it's a joy to have another plane from the Fw family.

Also, the 30mm cannon? Its a beast.

I would 100% recommend this plane if you enjoyed flying the Fw A1 to D9 and you want more of the same familiar feel but with a little change.

PD: It has Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong wings. Funny meme plane, I love it.

I may be wrong, but seems like the Ta152 Artificial Horizon is not working as intended, or at least not like the Fw models before it.

Just in case, I have no mods installed, completely vanilla.
I love this game and the Fw planes, after the instrument panel is fixed I will change my review to recommended.

I love the dora, this dlc was more than worth it, one hell of a plane!

My recommendation? Buy it during a sale. Why?

If you host a tank mission with this dlc, your friends (or anyone that joins your servers) DO NOT need to buy it, they can join as spectators and then join you through the "crew turret" option in the menu, enabling you to play with 3 other people.

Also, google PWCG (Pat Wilson Campaign Generator) for tanks, watch a video about how to use it and enjoy a coop campaign (even though it's in beta, it's nice).

TLDR

Does this compare to other tank simulators? Nah
Is it clunky? Yeah
Is it worth less than 10 usd? Sure thing honestly
just buy it during a sale if you have friends to play with

Currently we have:
- A toxic community that won't admit it
- "Low population"
- Outdated ELO/MMR/Rank system
- No penalty for those who resign early or on purpose to troll
- No penalty for trolls
- No penalty for toxic people
- The same 4 maps for every rotation and the rest that nobody plays/resigns after the match starts
- The pathfinding of a blind turtle
- A report system that doesn't work
- And much more 11

You may give the argument of; "it's an old game, you should be happy it's still alive", and to that I say:
It's a product, and I payed for features like a decent ranked system as well as a report feature that enables me and others to report those that are toxic and/or cheat, and these don't work.

The only way I would recommend this game is if you have 2 or 3 friends that are going to play with you each time you boot up aoe2, or if you like a single player rts.

The matchmaking system in this game is just horrible.

Im in silver and I solo queue against full teams of MGEs while my team is also composed of silver elites xddd

I play both short and long matches, all maps, during different moments of the day, so, it isn't that there aren't enough people for me to queue against/with, it's just that the matchmaking is pure trash.

Install the game, play all the "missions", download zandronum, play DooM with zandronum, design maps with DooM builder,
play them with friends, download some maps and play them with friends, download some mods and play them with friends, play maps from your friends, deathmatch your friends, buy quake and history repeats itself.

Not enough cliff racers.
