I'm not sure I can, in good conscience, recommend a game that keeps getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with by leadership that doesn't even play the game or community managers that hate you. The game is fun but I'd recommend waiting for a sale just to deny these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ money

TL;DR
Good game buried under a host of technical errors and the devs have already announced they aren't fixing it anymore. If you HAVE to buy it, wait for a sale and don't even bother with Worldslayer.

Onto the full review

Let's get this out of the way: I don't hate the game itself.

In fact I rather enjoyed it. Played all the way to the end, in fact. But the game is still plagued by a slew of performance issues that can in fact get you killed. Freezes and stutter and the occasional ability failing to go off while still charging you your use and the occasional invisible incoming attack forces me away from recommending the game.

I find this to be a damn shame. There was a good game buried underneath all of this technical baloney scuff sandwich. The loot is desirable, the customization aspects of the mod system (in base game) were intuitive and rewarded creativity, and the transmog system, which was a late addition, was welcome to keep the drip going instead of looking like a hobo wearing whatever he could find. The combat was satisfying, the abilities were excellent, and the expeditions in the endgame I tried later were a nice, steady grind. If the technical issues didn't exist I could easily see myself playing this with the boys after work. But they remain. I've more or less been with this game on and off since the open beta and the technical issues always made me go away.

And the worst part is? People Can Fly has already stated they're moving away from continued development of this game, meaning the unpolished gem we have here is the best it's going to be. It will never be a truly stable experience. Though, looking at the fact that the game has been consistently below a thousand concurrent players since November 2022, can't say I blame PCF for dropping it. A damn shame.

Of all of the Mobility Shooters in the world, this is one of them.

Premise: You are a Pilot. Equipped with a Jump Kit and the latest in cutting edge weaponry, you take control of the battlefield in ways no other Grunt can because you have something no other soldier has: Lateral movement. Your ability to turn sheer surfaces into pathways enables you to dominate the field. And that's before we get into the fact that you have a giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ robot. That giant robot is your Titan, and he is your best friend. Pick between one of several base Titan loadouts (Scorch, my beloved), customize their kit just a tad further, and go. Become the lord of mayhem.

There's also a singleplayer game which is very well written that I will not get into for spoiler reasons. Suffice to say it serves as a decent tutorial for the movement in the game and is also one of the few stories that got my ass invested. It isn't too long but frankly the story is one of those that doesn't need to be dragged out. On it's own the story justifies the price tag.

As for multiplayer? Yeah the vanilla multiplayer is borked thanks to a hacker issue. And because Respawn cares more about Apex Legends because it's actually getting them money they have *chosen* to ignore Titanfall, even though it's the only reason Respawn has any relevancy whatsoever and has prevented them from being consumed by the studio devouring monstrosity that is EA. Thankfully the community has stepped up and made a mod called Northstar which you can use to join custom hosted servers that are free of said hackers. So despite the best efforts of the hackers and the sheer negligence of Respawn, the multiplayer is also available as a nice bonus. I'm usually frequenting Frontier Defense and Titan Brawl, myself.

See you on the battlefield, Pilot.

TL;DR:
Unironically worth the hype.

The fact that the likes of Ubisoft, EA, Dice, and the rest are currently malding over Elden Ring says enough by itself.

Comparing it to other Souls games it's definitely a refinement of the formulas we've seen before, with the exception of Bloodborne's trick weapons. That's not a thing here. If you like From Software's work you won't be disappointed, and I recommend it. If you aren't into that kind of thing and thinking that From is doing something different you will be somewhat disappointed but I still recommend giving it a try.

As a port it's... rough around the edges (disclaimer, I technically was playing below minimum specifications, so take that with a grain of salt), but the PC ports of souls games have always been somewhat rough, to be completely honest. So there is that.

The multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion, as I suffer from constant issues whenever I try to summon and often suffer disconnections whenever being summoned or invading, but the aforementioned spec issues could also be a major factor there. More salt. I don't know where my issues start and the game's begin.

This game has either metric tons of replay value, or none at all, depending on your point of view. For me, it has none. Here's why

In-universe, your ability to Save, Load, and Reset are known powers, and they are an active, affecting part of the universe you're in. Say you "win", true pacifist ending. Everyone, including the main character, Frisk, gets a happy ending.

Say you then decide you want to go again. So you Reset.

Congratulations. You have now, CANONICALLY, taken away everyone's happy ending. Whether or not you'll play Pacifist again, and give them their happy ending again, is to me, irrelevant. You took it away from them. All their work, all their efforts, and you took it away as easily as you pushed a button. Hell, not only that, but you've even invalidated all of your own work, because it's all for nothing. You want that happy ending to mean something? Never play this game again. Let them keep that happy ending. Don't take it away from them, even once.
