Play this if you've unlocked all the Vampire Survivors achievements and want to keep chasing the dragon. Similar enough to scratch the same itch, yet different enough to keep you entertained. My only personal issues are that you won't get the same rewarding sound effects and it requires a moderate amount of attention to master, but it would probably still be better than listening to a new music album or a fresh podcast episode doing anything else.

Tales of Arise made it impossible to replay old Tales games without wishing that they were more like Tales of Arise. That being said, this is an extremely well polished JRPG that won't leave you breathless from any genius or innovation and it won't bore you with constant grinding or item hunting. It might actually be the best optimization of gameplay and story I've played in the genre since I likely won't remember most of the game aside from how invested I became in the characters growing and how much fun each battle was to fight.

Aside from the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith areas this is probably the closest you can get to the perfect game, right down to the core gameplay loop and the crazy lore theories.

I wonder why "Undertale-like" hasn't caught on like "Souls-like" has at this point. Or would "Earthbound-like" be more appropriate? "Space-Funeral-like"? "Super-Mario-RPG-like"? Anyways, Everhood is definitely one of those quirky unforgettable 2D pixel games with an amazing soundtrack that you'll be thinking about at random intervals for the rest of your life if you spent your childhood perpetually blowing into Super Nintendo cartridges.

This game succeeds on an aesthetic level that rivals and probably surpasses most metroidvania games out there. I get that the slow and deliberate playstyle is a reflection of the beautifully visceral pixel art, but it's implemented to the detriment of the overall experience. Blasphemous isn't punishingly difficult or tediously mundane, but there is a struggle to feel a sense of accomplishment that other metroidvania games are able to instill in the player at a more optimized pace. Arguably the greatest sin this game commits in my opinion is how the level design incorporates that quintessential backtracking element these games are known for. It feels artificial and misplaced, and the whole exploration/discovery part of these games is supposed to be the most exciting part.

And the most frustrating part is that all of these problems can be fixed with a double jump. Seriously was that like illegal during the inquisition or something? Jumping is so important to the texture of a metroidvania game. You can't just have all flavor and no texture or all metroid and no vania. You don't have to make him float like an angel or add 5 sequential anime ninja jumps. Just make the pointy hat man jump 2 times next time guys trust me on this one.

DUSK is exactly what it advertises itself to be. If you get the feeling that it will scratch a particular itch that you've been having, it will do just fine. The multiplayer side of things is completely dead, which is a shame despite it not being my thing. All around a fun experience from one of the many games in the retro FPS club on Steam.

You could write a thesis on how surface tension paved the way for modern FPS games. So glad I finally had the chance to play this.

The speed at which you get from launching the game to playing, the replay value, and the unique combination of style/substance made this game instantly skyrocket to one of my favorites on Steam. I get the feeling this might become another perfect roguelike if it makes a successful transition to 3D like Risk of Rain did, too.
