2019 review:

After nine years, Of early access and development.
I can't recommend this game. Despite it being a great overall game.
The development team at times, Loose their cool and insult players for being unhappy with how slow things are taking. I personally? I long passed my unhappiness. Did i voice my opinion? When i was unhappy with how long things are taking? No. I didn't. But at times i wished i would. Being a Desura player. Probably one of the very few first that bought project zomboid at the start of their development.

I'd imagine a question towards me like.
"Hey! did they make great progress with the time they had? 9 years sounds, well... LONG! What do you think Ryan?" Mediocre. They had long enough to make animations, Make systematic updates or patches to work that out. Not sure what they're doing at this point apart from showing 'round up' updates that are taking 6 month's so far. I am aware that games take time and that long work equals great game but. Nine years is... Overwhelmingly long.

I was once a 14 year old kiddo that had great expectations of this game. And i still see some of them! though. These things should've been there waaay at the start. Like cosmetic items. Cars and others. Even modders have managed to get working cars in the game before the dev's did. I say no, I wont praise their slow development time anymore.

And i do beg to people, to understand this point of view of mine. Seeing that most people comment is "don't worry dev's. Five years is not long." Because five years - is still, a quite a long time. For a update. But some of the people cant fathom how long i have had waited. Compared to others. And i don't have the will power anymore. I mean, I long lost it anyways.

Do see this review as a love and hate relationship between me and the game. its a passionate point of view. And again. I hope people understand this end.

UPDATE:

07/07/2019:
Today they've removed the roundup #6 tab due to the enormous amounts of negativity from the community. And have removed the post. One end feels like its censorship from criticism, Removing the post and posting a new one later this week to start a clean new slate without the negativity. Which is in my eyes. Bad.

Other end? They took a massive hit into their morale on working on the project. Which has been taking more or less six months or longer. Personally. I'm neutral in this but. c'mon, grow the hell up devs.

06/10/2020:
There's still nothing at all from this game. The devs are nitpicking and being slow. It feels almost on purpose these days. No progress at all. yes the multiplayer updates are decent and are coming along but HOLY ♥♥♥♥! There's nothing. Its been 10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years guys. I bought your game on Desura when i was 14 years old, i am 24 now! Are you going to wait till i'm 30?! Jesus.

This has nothing to do with impatience anymore. The fanboys of this game keep saying that to people that have reasonable thoughts about the slow progress of this game. And get shut down by the moderators, staff and its HARDCORE fanbase. Even if you give criticism about the game itself. Well, They'd probably dismiss you.

This review will probably stay NEGATIVE forever. Even if they meet up with the updates people have waited for. It will stay negative. Their development time is too slow. And never meet up with expectations. Some people have been married and gotten children by now, no joke.

They finally released build 41 after all these years.
And i just can't believe how the devs of this project are just tapping each others shoulders saying "We did good, releasing that multiplayer." No friggin ♥♥♥♥! You sold this game as a multiplayer which no one had until a few weeks ago.

I know multiplayer already existed, but build 40 was extremely outdated and old.
They HAD to release build 41 as a beta, especially the multiplayer, otherwise it would've been the game's doom. Lol.

Good job, took you like half my life time.

FULL RANT:
As you can see, it took another 3 full years now to release a 'unstable' version from the devs, which isn't even the full build 42 release. Which might take another one half years, or so i predict, i've seen this dance more then enough. each update and each 3 years they spent makes me want to despice them more and more.

I am now 28, and soon i'll be 29 within the next month. I used to joke as a kid, about a decade ago that i'll never see this game release before i reach 30. And, well. Its reality. I honestly hoped to hear a 'sorry' for them being so awfully slow. And they had gotten themselves into this mess for constantly re-writing code and re-designing the game over and over. Hell, smaller dev teams had finished games by now.

Build 43 will not release within the next 3 or 4 years, or at least. The unstable build of 43.
The game wont be released any time soon, and neither do we get the features that were originally promised like the cursed request of NPC's.

Even though, a basement dwelling modder made NPC's within a half year, that even DRIVE cars?! Like Jesus Christ devs. What are you doing? You really want me to die of old age? People even died before they could see this release. Why not make it immediately 2 decades? (20 years) becasue right now, soon. It will be 15 after this new years. I am sure you want my hypothetical son to play this huh? Because that could've very well been a possibility, and i am VERY VERY confident others already started families, got kids that are now in their teens lmao.

You might see this as bullying, i see this as VALID criticism. Anyways. Yeah, I've got nothing left to say to these devs, and all they'd probably see is bullying, like they keep commenting about. They should probably assign a new appropriate spokes person for their team.

ABOUT THE GAME:
The devs have had adden new gun mechanics, -1 floor and +1 floors to the games world, meaning tunnels or tall office buildings or skyscrapers as some would like to call them. Animal husbandry. New lighting re-work (Which they had to re-code AGAIN.) And new sounds and items which is always nice. And 2 or 3 new towns.

But was that it? After 3 full years? That's what they got done? Good lord. At least make the cars look good in a re-work.

END OF THE REVIEW:
I am confident i will write a another update to my review again within 3 or 4 years because that is how long they'll take. I am also very confident that some folks might see this unfair, i'll just say one thing. This game is already in development for 15 years. I am not allowed to be displeased? I used to be a kid, i am a grown adult now. I feel like i can criticize that. And its also the only reason why i, regretfully. Dislike and despise this game. I still play it, sure. Only because of our heroes, the mods. They strife and work for our entertainment. And they deserve all the credit for keeping this game alive. I also love how every release of the games updates are at the end of each year as well according to my older updates.
