I don't understand the hate behind the dlc, I thought sunbreak was an amazing addition.
Once again, I played on switch and haven't played on PC, and the qurio crafting isn't that bad imo, it's certainly better than the guiding lands for me at least
You don't need to grind out the best gear in the game to beat the whole game if you have good reaction time and use your wirebugs at the right times.
It's sad that finding online matches is really hard probably due to the follower system being implemented. I beat every quest in the game (on switch) just using a simple Malzeno armor build, I didn't even do qurio crafting till I did every quest and realized that was an option.
And best of all, the AI for the Palamutes and the Palicos is actually smart unlike the nightmare that is the Palico in world

Base game's not too hard, I played on the switch on release and had to wait the excruciatingly long time for thr base game to update to have a "full" story
The wirebug mechanic is a lot of fun but it does make base game really easy imo which is later fixed in sunbreak as you have to be more conservative with how you use the wirebugs or it can lead to your death
It's very fun game though

Clutch claw.
Unfair fights, and this is coming from an old gen player, I started in mh4u and somehow the fights from mh3u and mh4u feel more fair and rewarding than the master rank quests in iceborne
Somehow the game feels super clunky compared to the fights in base world

This game feels like the most overrated game of the century. It has beautiful graphics, amazing story, and it has the perfect first couple hours. I feel like base game for the most part is really good, really fun. It isn't till you start getting to late game and the bad game design choices start popping up. This game has so much artificial difficulty sprinkled in with hordes of enemies, bosses in terrible arenas, bosses that are actually just multiple bosses in one (usually a copy pasted boss), bosses with unfair movesets. I will say I beat all the bosses that people complained about the most and they weren't as hard I thought they were with the except of the final boss for the dlc just being pure bs.
I feel like as far as it goes the MAIN bosses for story progression in the base game are fantastic no complaints. It feels the game punishes you for exploring with how hard some of the bosses can be. WORST PART is that usually the side bosses you fight from optional legacy dungeons are either weapons that you might never use, or just items/materials that are totally useless. The DLC is specially guilty of that, more than half the time I spent on the DLC was wasted on me exploring and going as far as possible to be rewarded with something that might be useful just to get a crafting material, a useless talisman or a mediocre weapon. The fact that in an OPEN WORLD game you get punished for exploring really sucks, it defeats the entire purpose of having a massive area to explore if there's nothing worth exploring in the first place.
In regard to the story, I loved base game story but the DLC story was so disappointing, I was expecting so much more from a 40 dollar DLC, but alas, I got nothing more than mediocre boss fights and very few interesting weapons. The weapons that "look" cool, interesting and fun to use on the surface end up being totally useless in the dlc because everything is scaled up to 200 and all the fun flashy moves are useless. Out of the main bosses to fight in the DLC I only really enjoyed Messmer and Midra. The potential the DLC had was insane, it felt like such a bad expansion to the base game I almost would've rather not have the DLC existed at all.

This game has more soul than League of Legends. The game can be frustrating at times but at least it's not League.

Early Access Review
TL:DR
Game is fun, very minor progression issue, really good content for price

I will start off by saying I highly recommend this game, it's very fun and challenging and it has a lot of potential to become something greater! My recommendation is to get this game and play it going in blind, only really searching for answers online if you're a 100% stuck. This game has a lot of gameplay and a lot of secrets to uncover and I think it's best to go in blind for this one.

Minor, Vague spoilers ahead:
But I do also have to mention my personal gripe with the game and it's that it feels like the progression is constantly fighting against you. The initial 3 main bosses to activate feel very balanced and that's where I had most of my fun from! After that when it gets to the titans is when it starts to feel like the progression starts fighting against you. It starts feeling like regardless of how good your gear is, you'll always go back to mining slow and taking high amounts of damage. With other games of similar genres, you get stronger and you can FEEL stronger. Like said before, the balancing was perfect before the activation of the core and it felt like there was this air of freedom as to what direction you could take and it felt more open. Many games in similar genres have that same aspect of gameplay of total freedom even with the order of how you fight bosses, or how you choose to unlock things. Pre-core activation the game feels like it has that freedom but post-core activation feels like you lose that freedom. I think it'd be hard to make drastic changes in this point in development, it's a very minor nitpick of my part.
That being said, as of writing this the game is still in Early Access and it's still getting updated regularly so there is a possibility for this to be fixed at a later date. Even if it doesn't get changed I would still highly recommend this game. It has immense amounts of content and replayability for the price. I honestly think they could charge more for it as more content gets added and it would still be a hell of a deal.

Updated Review:

I will preface all of this by stating I am a killer main, I've played killer since I first picked up the game and have pretty much only played killer, I have very few survivor matches under my belt.
I still don't recommend this game. Unfortunately they have yet to fix the issues with how grind heavy the game is. They made blood points easier to get but iridescent shards are still incredibly time consuming to get. For those who do not know, Iridescent shards are the currency gained from leveling up used to unlock new survivors and killers. And every new character has their own trio of perks, some of which are incredibly useful or even necessary to play and enjoy the game.
Those perks can be locked behind a paywall in the case of licensed killers, meaning you can't even grind for it. Don't mention the Shrine of Secrets, it's an incredibly flawed system that has perks that haven't even showed up in the Shrine yet. It's a huge waste of Iridescent shards.
A lot of how the progression system and monetization system works reminds me of a cash grab F2P, except you're paying money upfront, and then you have to pay more money after that. Even then, even a F2P game should not be as grindy as this game is. The grind is so bad and I've played League of Legends before the game changed from IP to BE and I would still choose that over what we have in DBD because at least there was a chance for me to have fun.
I will say I stopped playing for awhile and only recently picked it up, just to see how the game was going since even though I don't recommend this game, it is one of my favorite games because it can be quite fun.
I hope Behaviour is thinking about fixing the grind, that would at least make it so I can have fun by trying new builds or killers.
I will say the game does feel more balanced although there are matches where I will easily steamroll survivors and it can be quite boring. There's a decent amount of challenge for killer atm, it doesn't feel like it's impossible to "win" but again, there's the occasional devastation where it feels like the survivor's never stood a chance. Probably has something to do with the matchmaking more than anything though.

As of right now, I don't recommend getting the game, and if you do end up buying, at least know that it will take so many hours of your day.

Original Review from Sep 2021:
Here's the most honest review I can make for this game:
It's a very fun idea for a video game, but the execution is poor.
1. The balancing is wacky at times. Depending on what perks are meta and which killers are meta, the game is very unfair for survivors or killers. I don't think there has every been a single moment where the game has been 50/50 balanced. Don't expect a balanced game if you decide to purchase.
2. The maps can be incredibly unfair for either killer or survivor. Some more are huge making it fairly difficult for both survivors and killers, although it usually affects killers more.
3. The grind is ridiculous, you would have to play for at least 23 hours straight if you're level 1 to get a new survivor or killer. On top of that grind, there's also the grind for perks which will take you many hours. You will not be able to get the perfect build that you need in a reasonable amount of time.

Overall, I would not get this game, it's a trap, it's addictive but it's infuriating. It'll leave you frustrated regardless of whether you decide to play survivor or killer.

I barely play this game anymore, but it's still one of my favorite games and I'll gladly play it if I have any time. 110.6 hrs on record, and this game still gives me some troubles. This game takes dedication and time, but it rewards you for it.
