Compared to the prequel, this is a worse product in pretty much every single way. Less content, worse "gameplay", worse rng so you are forced to play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ basketball minigame (btw you can hold down left click and spam spacebar to cheat it), graphics and ui are worse (subjective) and the price is double of the original.

If this is intentional to parody sequels by big name studios then this game is excellent 10/10 in doing exactly that, but if it's not then just read the first half of this review.

Also there is no achievement for 100k button presses like the first game, don't buy this.

(THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS)

This review will be messy and all over the place as I am writing it at 02:30, around 2 hours after beating the game.

To start off with, I have not played any other FromSoftware game before this or seen much of them until after I beat the game and watched a review comparing elden ring to other games. All I knew was there was something about a bonfire that also refills your health pots, you lose your souls (runes) on death, you can roll for iframes, and it's a very hard game.

I don't remember what class I started with but I noticed my weapon could stagger enemies sometimes and I liked that because it's more fun to play unfair than it is to play on even grounds imo. It took until some cave near the starting area to learn about target lock existing which changed my experience forever and I suddenly felt like beating the game was not an impossible dream anymore.

Fast forward and I find the grafted blade greatsword which I used ever since for the rest of the game because it looked cool and did a lot of damage and stance break. Anyways my journey isn't that important so onto actual points.

The exploration felt very fun with riding on a horse and seeing a lot of things and a lot of places you can go to. I noticed somewhat early on that you can locate maps by looking at some weird marking on the blank map but if you don't notice it I can imagine it being quite frustrating.

The soundtrack for the game and especially boss fights felt almost perfect in how they made me feel fighting them, with my all time favorite being whatever is playing when fighting the godskin apostle in the caelid divine tower.

Artstyle looks nice, not really much to say other than I appreciate it, thought I would quickly mention it.

Gameplay feels very engaging in how it will constantly demand your attention through reacting at movements and correlate it to attack patterns and either move or roll away from the attack. The stamina system really brings it together to force you to balance offense and defense where you usually can't do both: roll too much and you don't have enough stamina to attack, and same for the opposite where you attack too much and can't roll away from an incoming attack despite reacting to it. Jump attacks felt a bit too strong but I didn't use them that much until near the end of the game so it didn't ruin the game for me or anything with only doing a single attack pattern over and over again.

Most boss fights felt unique and a test of raw skill and beating them gave me a great boost of self confidence for finishing the game as well as satisfaction of beating a very hard enemy, however some bosses were just a chore and all I could think of when I beat them was "Finally it's over, now I can progress the game instead of being stuck on this".

My absolutely favorite boss fights were:

* Godskin Apostle in the divine tower of Caelid: Exploring the tower was tense and exciting and having the very hard boss right at the end had me stuck for many hours and I loved it as I tried to fight him over and over again, learning his patterns so well that the next time I found him on the altus plateau I first timed him.

* Margit, The Omen: High pace fight with very few downtimes, most attacks felt fair and it felt creative in how he could chain some attacks together and create attack patterns I had not seen yet even after 40 attemts. His phase 2 was my first "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" moment in the game when he pulls out a massive glowing hammer and congratulating me for not being trash at the game.

* Rennala of the full moon: Visually the coolest fight in the game and the gimmick in the first phase was neat and easy enough to not feel like a filler before the real fight begun. The large amount of spells used in both phase 1 and 2 made it feel like a grand wizard fight which made it stand out to me a lot. The only downside is there is a very long runback and I have no idea why there is one when almost every other boss in the game doesn't.

For the opposite there are the worst bosses in the game (in my experience with them):

* Godskin duo: I hate double bosses because they can unfairly chain stun you until you die and it can be very hard to sneak in hits without getting caught by one attack which usually means more to follow. The attempt that I beat this boss on took around 25 minutes, mostly due to how I decided to fight it, being only attacking the godskin apostle because I was familiar with it's patterns and godskin noble being a nightmare in phase 2.

* Mohg, the Omen: I hated most of his attacks and the arena was just awful to fight in with constantly getting stuck on chairs. I had to use the shackle to make the fight easier.

* Elden Beast: As the final boss of the game it was a massive disappointment. It will frequently just become invulnerable and teleport to the other side of the arena to do a long range attack or fly up in the air and do another long range attack, but this time you can't hit it back so you just have to endure it. The attacks weren't even that visually impressive either. Also doesn't help that the fight right before, Radagon, you have to fight every single time as a gatekeeper and it counts as the same fight in terms of flasks used, and he is also a pretty lame boss in terms of gameplay.

Also very disappointing considering Godfrey was a really cool fight right before it (even if that fight has the problem of ending too quickly with his small healthbar which was probably required to let him have 3 phases). I also beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella 3 days before which felt like the ultimate test of skill which warped my expectations of what the final boss would be like, even if in hindsight Malenia, Blade of Miquella is an "optional" boss while Elden Beast is required to finish the game and has to be easier so the game is more accessable to people playing.

I didn't use any summons because I wanted to beat the game on my own, but also slightly pressured by a friend to not use them. Didn't use magic either because I didn't want to manage mana and stuff. Great runes were cool ideas but I never really played around with them because they cost rune arcs to use which from what I know are limted so I never used them because I hate using limted consumables due to the fear of when they run out fighting some boss I am then stuck weaker than I already was, and I ended the game with 31 in my inventory.

The game felt like a 6, then 9, then 10, then down to 7 towards the end nearing fire giant where I stopped exploring areas and just wanted to finish the game at that point, don't know if that's a me problem in mindset or if it's something wrong with the game at that part.

Despite the negativity the good outweights the bad by a lot and I am happy to have played this game for 90 hours over the course of 4 months and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to invest time into getting good at fighting hard unfair bosses with the promise of great satisfaction upon victory.

Very confliected about this game, it has a lot of strong points but also a lot of extremely weak points that can't be overlooked.

Let's start with the strong points.

The narritive, both the cinematics and mission descriptions enhance the immersion of you being a general. The newspapers give some background on how humanity ended up like this and while the plot twist is not difficult to figure out it did feel like a satisfying conclusion at the end.

The pause button as controversial as it might be to have in a RTS game feels great to use since there is a lot to manage at once, but at the cost of drastically increasing how long it takes to play the game.

The ability to instantly lose the mission because one zombie started a chain reaction in an area you weren't looking at is fantastic and caused me a lot of panic when I started out and since then always taking safety precautions to prevent it. That being said the game on the later missions will just put your starting area in a safe spot where you can't get ambused from behind which severely lowers the threat and danger.

Visuals and soundtrack were great overall, probably a solid 7.6/10.

Gameplay is pretty much exactly what you would expect from an RTS game.

Bad points:

The hero missions are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful in how you will usually spend an extra 10 minutes after already doing everything, trying to find the right pixel across the entire map because you missed a single collectible.

During the defend missions you will eventually get spammed with "unit is now veteran" messages and sound effects when it's completely unnessecary as it's usually towards the end of the mission.

There is a large amount of waiting that you can't speed up in a lot of the missions where everything is set and you are just waiting 10-20 days for the next rush with nothing to do. This is worst experienced in the awful (but thankfully few) missions where there are 0 zombies on the map but a horde coming later.

There is a lot of options for defensive buildings but the game does a really bad job at teaching the player to use them, and the only way to try them out is by using research points which you would much rather put towards way more important perks/upgrades. A very easy way to fix this would be to give the player free sample items on several missions so it can be experimented with.

Oil is a completely wasted resource, from what I remember there is only oil pools on 2 or 3 maps in the whole game, and one of those is the last mission? It kinda feels like I am missing half the game and only played the first half since I never had to build any special units to progress and could just spam soldiers and clear areas one bit at a time.

Some upgrades felt too strong. From my experience I felt like the free resources from the train trivialized the game by letting you create soldiers right from the start without even having found an iron mine first, and the free stone rushed the production of the soldier production warehouse.

Nitpicks:

In the hero missions you can literally be killed by the 3rd party allies such as lucifers which seems like a massive oversight when they are supposed to be allied units but still have allied damage turned on in their aoe attacks.

It is not possible to see with fishing and hunting huts what areas are already covered which makes placing new ones really frustrating trying to minmax in smaller areas.

You can't undo or remove created groups of units/structures, only overwrite them with new ones.

Every single time I tried to change settings the game switched to my vertical monitor despite specifying what monitor I wanted the game window on. If this is a bug it should be a very high priority bug to fix.

There were not enough special win conditions on missions, the most memorable mission for me was the one where you had to reach 8000 gold generation to win (alongside reaching X amount of population and generic clear all zombies on map). It could have been interesting if for example to win you had to eliminate all infected mutants which would give you a choice of either playing it slowly and expanding one area at a time or building an army and rushing the win condition. Another idea would be to have X amount of units created in some narritive like you need them to defend allies in another city etc.

If you like playing RTS games this will probably be for you but it's just a mid tier experience that feels like it's not finished yet with tons of qol things missing as well as bad and uninspired design. There were several times I hated playing this game while other times I had a good experience. It's a net positive in how much time I enjoyed this game but the bad shouldn't be ignored, both by the devs and by you, the person reading this review considering if you should play this game or not.

Probably the single best detective game I have ever played. Very little handholding and everything having a way to solve it if you inspect the surroundings and details given to you.

It's a brilliant idea to only validate your progress in a set of 3 which makes brute forcing both less viable but also something you can abuse to for example check between 2 names of 1 body on who it is if you already have 2 fates you are 100% sure are correct already.

The VFX are fantastic and the music that plays during the scenes are pieces I would consider putting on my personal playlist for how good they are.

Voice acting is really solid, with very few times where it feels strange.

The monochrome visuals really enhance the experience in a way I am unable to explain, it's just something you have to feel on your own.

Where you are placed in each scene as the spectaror is also genius, such as the very first one where you are put in the direct path of the action and it feels like you are experiencing it yourself until you realize you can move and explore.

This game does however have a massive flaw in my opinion which is how much time is wasted on nothing.

The first and arguably less time waster is when you for the first time enter a corpse memory flashback and get the voiceover followed by a short scene of I think 90 seconds where you can look around before the screen fades to black and then the book opens to present the scene. Only after all of this will you be given the ability to mark down the persons fate. I can agree that this is to build immersion and have you look around for details but in simple scenes you will often just sit around doing nothing waiting for the clock to run out before advancing, especially early on when you lack any relevant information to identify people.

The second and even worse time waster is when you unlock a memory from inside another memory and a white sprite will float around guiding you towards where on the ship the corpse is located at. What makes this really infuriating is that it will ONLY advance if you are directly looking at it and if you run ahead of it you will have to backtrack and wait for it to do loops around the whole ship and then make it's way to where you were already standing a minute ago. This is good for people who can't navigate around the ship just yet but absolutely terrible for anyone who already did a bit of exploring and can race ahead of it, not to also mention the unessecary path it takes to waste time (it could be telling you to look at some object for details but I don't remember any moment like that so probably not).

These problems are only on the first experience and any times you want to look at a memory again you can skip everything which is extremely convenient.

Overall it is absolutely a must play game for anyone who wants to use deductive and logical reasoning to solve the grand challenge of 60 fates in a relaxed and immersive setting, even if it has a very minor setback.

cool new take on the puzzle genre, idk if any other game is built completely around sound but this felt like a really fresh and unique experience

the game is long enough to keep you playing and you get really invested in the cases in order to solve them, which makes you care more about the characters as you have to listen to their lines multiple times to try and piece together what happened

the dlc is also amazing, would recommend both 10/10
