Early Access Review
A great, relaxing game to play. Scratches the exploration/crafting itch that I've had, and can't wait to see what future updates bring.

I'm not normally a huge fan of roguelites, but UnderMine caught my eye (thanks to DangerouslyFunny's videos). I've played about 16 hours of it so far (version 0.3.3.8), and I must say that it shows amazing promise. The game already feels like a fully released title, despite still being in early access.

The aim of the game is simple - progress through (currently) 12 levels of the mines, fighting creatures and hoarding gold. Along the way you'll find NPCs who return to your hub and offer their services, secret areas that reward you, artifacts to power you up, and curses which have various negative effects, but offer some reward in return.

The permanent unlocks are one of the things that caught my eye. Once you have enough gold and have the correct NPCs unlocked, you can upgrade your character for every subsequent run. This can be more health or damage, the ability to carry more potions, or even an upgraded sack to lose less gold on death. This means that no matter how poorly a run goes, you still feel like you've achieved something.

The runs themselves can last up to about 30 minutes - so they're well suited to shorter play sessions. There always seems to be something new to find, and in 16 hours, I definitely haven't seen all the game has to offer.

The graphics and audio are also well polished, and I haven't noticed any bugs so far. Once you've finished the current content, you get an item which respawns the bosses and ups the difficulty slightly (while improving the rewards). In the recent update, you also have the ability to toggle the level of this item, so you can return to non-NG+ if you prefer.

UnderMine is an excellent game, and the developer deserves to sell a lot of copies. It's definitely worth the current asking price of €12.50, and I hope the community around the game grows. I can't wait to see what's in store for future updates as well.

This is an incredibly fun game for the price. It's a mix of playing a shopkeeper, and dungeon crawling.

The core of the game revolves around paying back a loan. To do so, you adventure around dungeons finding items to sell, and unlocking new dungeons to explore. There's a huge amount of replayability (I believe that there's unlockables that require you to play the game through multiple times).

There are a few negatives too - the resolution options, etc. aren't great. I also recall a few patches massively increasing the difficulty of some bosses, but these are minor complaints once you get hooked.
