To any who doubt video games can be a media for art, I promptly direct you to this game. With an immersive and emotional story set in a mysterious, stunningly beautiful world backed with an amazing score, I genuinely feel as though I'm watching another of Hayao Miyazaki's masterpieces. No one with with any amout of taste could deny that *this* is art.

10/10 would watch the movie (and cry)

You *need* this game. Seriously.

EDIT

Now that the final release is out I'm updating my review. Crypt of the Necrodancer is one of those games you really just have to play to understand the hype, and yes this is one of those rare cases where the hype is 100% justified. The game just hits every note perfectly (haha). The gameplay is increadible. Even though the look is familiar, the mechanics are like nothing else out there (which is quite a feat in todays gaming age) but still seems to satisfy on some primal level. It's kind of like speed chess if it were fun. Each enemy moves in a unique pattern and each item effects the behavor of your character. Every move could either result in success or death, but you only have a split second to decide what to do. It really puts you on the edge of your seat especially when playing "all zones" mode. Then there's the music. It's amazing. In fact it's so amazing I bought the soundtrack version and uploaded the songs to listen to on my iPod. Of course thats the kind of music we've all come to expect from Danny Baranowsky of Binding of Isaac fame. The great thing about the music is that it makes you dance. Not in the game, but in real life. I can't play this game without dancing around with a big grin on my face like a complete idiot. My fiance thinks its hilarious, whom by the way, can't stand video games yet still found this game to be entertaining. On top of all that the execution is really what brings it all together. The way the shopkeeper sings to the music, how the music in the fire/ice stage transitions from metal to classical music seamlessly, the quirky sprite animations, and the light up disco tiles, it really brings a smile to your face. Its games like these that remind me why I game in the first place. I'm really quite pleased that amidst all the Call of Duty garbage you can still find little gems like this one.

I really can't recomend this game enough! :D
