Much like Re2R, this is what remakes should be like. Smoothing out gameplay for a new generation, shifting the tone and atmosphere to be more in line with the remake timeline/recent releases and designing the old bosses to be slightly more dynamic and challenging while improving upon the previous remakes' disappointing boss fights. Resident Evil Remake 4 is a great time and I hope Separate Ways continues this way.

Stray is my second favorite game of 2022 and a game I would recommend to cat lovers, casual gamers and gamers looking to try something new and innovative. It's a cyberpunk-themed, light platformer/puzzle game that you can complete in a single sitting, but one with an excellent narrative and the best soundtrack of the year (sorry Elden Ring). Sprinkled between the puzzles and platform sections are fast-paced chased sequences to give a light dose of excitement.

None of these core gameplay sequences are particularly challenging or complex, but you get some variety for a 6-7 hour game. In addition to these shorter levels and their sequences are two larger levels that allow for some exploration and collection hunting that may give you a reason for a second playthrough.

To avoid spoilers, I'll say that the themes of Stray's narrative are rather ambitious for such a small, novelty game. It very much asks questions about what makes us human and our relation to A.I, art and animals.

Stray is a surprisingly profound, fun game and I sincerely hope if kicks off a new era for ambitious indie games much like Journey did back in 2012.

9/10.

If I had to choose one game and one game only to play for the rest of my life, Fallout: New Vegas might be it. This game has endless replay value. Four major faction storylines with around 5 other faction sidequest lines, dozens upon dozens of sidequests, dozens of unmarked quests. In my hundreds of hours playing this on Xbox I still haven't completed all of them. Over 188 locations (not including unmarked locations), 316 with the four major DLCs. I still haven't discovered every one in a single playthrough. As far as choices go, this game remains unmatched. Dialouge gives you a dizzying array of choices and options on how to interect with characters, solve problems, complete quests, etc. Weapon choice is equally endless and beats both Fallout 3 and 4 in variation (though admittingly many weapons are useless later in the game). On top of that, most weapons come with various mods you can collect throughout your exploration. There's also dozens of unique weapons to add to your already stocked cabinet of firepower. In terms of overall content, this game is packed to the brim.

Storywise, this game is equally impressive. Without spoiling anything, a simple revenge story turns into a complex 4-way war between the major factions, with you at the center. Factions like Caesar's Legion, New California Republic, Mr. House, Brotherhood of Steel, Boomers, Great Khans, Powder Gangers, White Glove Society and more await for you to meet them and decide their fates and quell their internal stuggles. Each also come with their own unique and interesting backstories.

My only real gripe with this game are the bugs. This game is notorious for the amount of gamebreaking bugs it had on release. The first set of patchnotes even excluded a description of all the quest script bugs it fixed (well over 300). However, several patches later, many of the bugs are gone. Given how big this game is, there are still many remaining, BUT with access to unoffical patches and console commands on PC, they aren't really a big problem, if at all. Oh and by the way, this game still boasts a big community of people still playing and making mods for this game. Not just graphics or weapon mods either. Some of the bigger ones are comparable to full blown DLC (Ghoulville is my favorite).

I've played many RPGs throughout the years. Fallout 4 may be bigger, Skyrim more ambitious, The Witcher 3 more cinematic, KOTOR more innovative, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt, Fallout: New Vegas is the one you will get the most out of in terms of content, storytelling and replayability. If you're gonna get a Fallout game, get this one. 10/10.

Been a while since I completed this game, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a Sci-fi Horror game with Survival elements. At its core, it's a third-person shooter that has you playing as Isaac Clarke, an engineer stuck on a doomed mining ship, struggling to find a way out while uncovering the secrets of the former crew and the cause of the outbreak. The backstory is the real star here. It's told through audio recordings, notes and letters by former crew members and survivors. The main story itself is serviceable, but has quite a few horror film clichés and tropes. Lots of plot devices are often recycled to keep the game going. For example, half the chapters consist of fixing something that has broken down somewhere in the ship for whatever reason.

The gameplay itself is quite satisfying and provides a fair challenge that rarely feels frustrating or unfair. All weapons function differently from each other and give certain advantages and disadvantages. The crafting system isn't anything special, but it's not bad at all. As far being "scary", it's a pretty mixed bag. If predictable jump scares are your thing, then you will be scared most of the time. However, there is a psychological horror aspect to this game that the sequels never quite replicated. A lot of events are never actually seen or experienced, but rather heard or found after they've taken place. Some of them are quite startling and adds a sense of impending doom to your journey. Disembodied voices (if listened to carefully, may imply it's actually just Issac going insane) also add to this layer of fear. My biggest problem with the gameplay is that the mouse controls are unresponsive or too sensitive at times, but there are several community guides to fixing this. Overall a solid 8/10 game for me.

This game is so much fun. The combat is much more fluid and stylish than the previous games. This makes it much easier, but also much cooler to look at. The level design is pretty great and also stylish. The sountrack is also pretty dank and although I don't like some of the songs, I can't deny that they fit the game perfectly. Boss fights are disappointingly easy, but they are a visual spectacle to say the least. The worst thing about this game is most of the dialouge is pretty cringeworthy and outright awkward most of the time. The way the characters talk is sometimes over the top or just cartoonish and not necessarily in match with the tone of the game. Overall, I liked the streamlined combat and more cinematic approach of the game, even if it's much different than the original series. Rememeber a reboot is supposed to be different and shake things up or else the series can get stale. 7/10.

Positives include very smooth, responsive gameplay, interesting and well placed story, good character development and superb voice acting, great UI and some pretty cool aesthetics and visuals throughout most of the game. Negatives for me would include overuse of jump "scares" (seriously after 20 mins you can predict when the next one is coming perfectly), sometimes shoddy camera controls and the occasional glitch here and there. It's not really all that scary, but it's fun to play and it only gets more and more panic inducing as it progresses. 8/10

One of my favorite games of all time. Probably my favorite FPS. The art style, combat/gameplay, score, story, characters and themes are all so perfect. It does everything the previous BioShock games did but perhaps even better (in my opinion). The way the story unfolds really makes you care about Booker and Elizabeth's fates. The combat is so varied and full of options and the gun mechanics themselves feel so nice and smooth. The soundtrack adds a lot of tension in fights when needed or adds a lot of atmosphere in cut-scenes. Columbia is no Rapture, but it looks
beautiful in its own right and fits the general aesthetic of 1912 America. Last but not least, this game tackles a lot of turn of the century themes of poverty, divided classes, segregation and racism that a lot of other games wouldn't because they don't have the balls. The only minor issue I see is that the game loses focus about halfway through and the story progresses through a bit of Deus Ex machina. 9/10. My only regret is not being able to experience the game for the first time again.

Quite a surreal experience for a game dealing with illness and depression. A lot of people saying the story is confusing. To me, it was quite clear, but mostly because I was all eyes and ears. I can see why people are confused, the presentation is unique but it's too much. Characters having conversations while text on the environment and in front of you appear is too much. You will probably need multiple playthroughs to fully understand everything, but each one will probably be like 20-30 mins max. I do like the pretty visuals and soundtrack as the game progresses, but the whole story telling part could've been better. 5/10. Honestly, just buy during a sale if this doesn't sound appealing to you.

99 hours on record and counting. How can I not recommend this game? It's so addictive and time consuming you will easily spend hours and hours without realizing it. Every civilization is unique in that it has it's own strengths and weaknesses througout the game and it's own preferred win conditions. Whether it's in the early game or very late game, you should always be using your civilization's strengths! That being said, the game never ties you down to a specific win condition. The amount of playable civilizations, maps and scenarios in the base game are enough to keep you playing for a very long time. The only real issue I have is that if your empire gets big enough, you will likely have to be giving units orders every single turn and it can be frustrating. Also, despite having a good enough PC to run it at high settings, the game can stutter occasionally, however, these are minor inconveniences that do little to prevent my enjoyment of the game. 9/10.

I'm having mixed feeling about this one. I've played both the Xbox 360 and the PC version now and they both are pretty much the same game to me. Fun combat, good variety of customization, good score, great design on some maps and a nice selection of classes. The story isn't much but it's not trying to be much. It's just there as a way to have a single player campaign and it's also good to get used to the controls and feel of the game. The negatives include occasional very long queue times, stale and stalemate prone designs on certain maps and sometimes atrocious matchmaking. I cannot stress that last part enough. The more you advance in level the worse it seems to get. As a level 20 I can still get paired with level 1-5 players or even worse level 40 and up players. Another big problem is as you continue leveling on, it seems to get more pay-to-win. Some of the high level players can have ridiculously levelled weapons compared to yours that can be hard to match without paying for some of the stuff they offer in the store. Still this game is pretty good for the first 25 hours or so before these things get truly problematic. 6/10. The fact that it is free-to-play is keeping it from a lower score. If the matchmaking/item balance was corrected this would be more than just an above average game.
