If you can forgive an enormously and unforgivingly steep learning curve and the inevitability of failure after failure on the road to what will hopefully be a success someday - and of course the indev bugs and issues - then yes, this is a reccomendation if space is your deal. I did mean it about that learning curve, but its presence is for the best. It's relatively receptive to mods as well if you really /must/ have more than the parts provided.

I'd reccomend starting with Career mode, as barely-implemented as it is. Go through it long enough to learn the generalities of how to work everything, /then/ introduce yourself to sandbox and everything the game has on offer. The immensely strict limitations placed on you by Career mode's beginning will help you find out just how weak, small and/or lightweight a thing you can actually get up and out there.
