Pretty dismal control scheme for what could have been a decent horror shooter game. I enjoyed a lot of the concepts and designs, but I just can't deal with the lack of control options.

- Your only movement options are Teleport or Controller-oriented locomotion. There's no HMD-oriented locomotion. Not a dealbreaker in and of itself, but it's pretty baffling, and exacerbates the other issues in the game if you're not used to Controller-loco.

- There is no way to disable the "Comfort" vignette for those who don't suffer from motion sickness during smooth-locomotion.

- The "Comfort" vignette covers nearly the entire image at full strength, making it impossible to see anything when moving.

- The "Comfort" vignette is probably the most atrocious vignette I've ever seen. It's not just flat black encroaching in to close up the FOV like other VR games, but rather it's this weird peeling-away of the actual game visuals to reveal this brightly colored grid space around you. It's actually *more* nauseating. Plus, it's so bright it's distracting and prevents you from seeing what little amount of the actual game is left.

I could drag up more minor nitpicks with it (like how long it takes to return a thrown weapon), but those are all superficial gameplay/balance issues that ultimately aren't dealbreakers for me simply because *I can't actually even enjoy the game content to care enough about mechanics and balance*. It's seriously incredible how bad the act of just moving in this game feels. I *wanted* to get into it and really sink into the mechanics because it felt like a decent horror setting, but there's no way I can ever bring myself to stomach that horrendous vignette again.

Fight against militant radicals in rural America like a true patriot, defy physics by ramping your seaplane off a pine tree, and break reality by shoving moving trucks into each other. What's not to love?

Reminds me of Saints Row and Just Cause, but in First Person.

It's a great idea with some really cool systems and concepts. Unfortunately it's heavily burdened by the very tedious menu systems and long wait times to make anything happen. Probably half of the time playing this game is just spent micro-managing inventory space, navigating menus, and/or waiting for your character to finish their assigned task.

I see all of the great things the game has to offer in the core exploration/combat loop, but I feel like it constantly does everything it can to keep you from actually playing that loop by forcing you through all the side-loop management nonsense.

If you like micromanaging games as a core gameplay element and just want the zombie killing aspect to be a sideshow to the micromanagement, then this game will be right up your alley. But if you want some hart-pounding zombie thriller action... look elsewhere.

A good, if a bit simple, city-builder game. Think games like the Anno series, but instead of enemies or pirates being your source of danger, it's entirely "PvE" and the only dangers you face are your own bad decisions.

It's a strong learning curve, and at first the difficulty will seem deviously brutal, but once you figure out some tricks it's immensely satisfying.

This is an enthusiast's game, which I wholeheartedly respect. However, I'm not an enthusiast. I don't have pilot joysticks or anything like that, and the game just doesn't really work on KB/M. Even being able to play in VR isn't enough to overcome the controls.
If you have pilot joysticks or any kind of alternative peripheral control, then this game will likely be amazing for you. But if you're just KB/M like me, I'd say probably not.

If you've ever wanted to make your wallpaper a .gif, a video, or anything along those lines, this is the way to go. Loads of community wallpapers, as well as a built-in scene editor make this the most flexible and comprehensive wallpaper tool I've ever seen.

Adds a lot of flexibility and options that are useful for managing your VR experience. It's not comprehensive by any means, but hey, it's free. There's no reason not to get it.

It's high-quality, it has loads of customization options to make it exactly what you need it to be, and best of all it's free. Strongly recommend this for anyone using a wired HMD.

Allow me to preface this review by saying I plan on continuing to play this game for a lot of hours, and will have a lot of fun doing so. Almost all of my issues with this game that led to me leaving a negative review can be resolved with mods (and by grabbing the game on a deep sale).

This is no different from the standard Bethesda experience; design choices so questionable and poor that you wonder how the devs even dress themselves in the morning, but once you slap a few mods on it it'll be the best thing you've ever played.

First and foremost, this is a prime example of how *not* to do a VR port of a game. This could have been, and *should* have been, a DLC to Skyrim Special Edition. The game engine genuinely treats it as SE but with a VR plugin added onto it. This has no reason being a standalone offering, much less a $60 one at that. More on this later.

Second, the VR aspects of this game are lackluster in many ways that make little to no sense - both from a VR game perspective as well as from a Skyrim/Elder Scrolls game perspective. For a game that is so renowned for its character customization, and focuses so heavily on the character creator and your equipment's visuals, it's baffling to me that there is literally no way to ever see your own character once you complete the Character Creation beyond going to the Face Sculptor and paying to re-edit yourself. All you are is just a floating pair of hands that don't even show the gloves you wear. Furthermore, these floating hands have no physical presence in the world whatsoever. Your hands pass through objects, walls, NPCs, etc., without any noticeable interaction. Skyrim was well known for allowing you to do things like pick up a bucket and set it on an NPC's head, and VR games are all about manipulating objects with your hands, so this is baffling to me as well that you can't physically shove an object with your hands.

Third, while the game technically supports Valve Index controllers, and admittedly it does a good job of interpreting your finger positions, it's not well designed for the button mapping. You'll have to find/make custom control mapping through SteamVR just to be able to jump because the default binding doesn't have it, and you can't rebind your controls through any in-game menus.

Fourth, the menus are atrocious. They are just copy-pasted from the original game, which was already one of the worst-designed RPG menus I've ever seen. They're clunky, they take forever to navigate, and they aren't optimized for VR controllers whatsoever.

I could go on with minor nitpicks, but I'll cut to the biggest gripe, carrying on from the first point:

The ability to mod this game and fix all of the issues I've mentioned is also seriously hampered by their lazy 'port' to VR. The game is a specific version of Special Edition, isolated to that patch number, but with the VR plugin slapped on. This means that the game expects Special Edition mods specifically. On the surface this seems like a positive, because it means your favorite SE mods work out of the box without needing to be converted... except for the fact that they've continued to make updates and patches for Special Edition, but NOT the VR version, which means Skyrim VR is officially behind Special Edition and several mods, including the Unofficial Patch, don't actually work in VR because they expect the up-to-date version number. Furthermore, by being 'technically' SE, you can install any SE mod out there and the game will accept it, even if it genuinely doesn't work in VR, such as menu mods that were designed for SE menus. All of this together leads to an incredibly frustrating situation where all of the mods for both SE and VR are the 'same', but you can't actually tell right away which mods will or won't work on the different versions.

This last point is my biggest issue and ultimately tipped my opinion to the negative because it's so incredibly non-user-friendly and requires some level of modding expertise to work with. And it could have been fixed by one of two solutions that arguably should have been the case to begin with - either make VR just a DLC pack for SE, or at least keep this standalone VR edition they decided to go with up to date on the same patches as SE.

While it may not have much replay value, it more than makes up for it in memorability and creative gameplay.
