An absolute blast of a retro shooter in the veins of quake. Definitely worth the price of entry.

A decent idle game that;s a bit more involved than the usual incremental games. It's nothing formidable, but it's a great little timewaster with a bit more depth

Not exactly a DRPG or a real dungeon crawler per se. The majority of the game is basically a mix of map-travelling similar to Darkest Dungeon -- where you select an adjoining room you wish to travel to from a grid -- hold down right and hope that no traps exist as they're completely unavoidable. Then enter a room that most likely has an encounter that can be resolved by repeatedly attacking. Once you get to the next floor, you're most likely going to have to leave, return to the previous floor and grind for a while.

Unlike a lot of DRPGs, this one isn't very compelling, nor very fun. I'd say skip it.

An excellent reboot to the series, RE7 is a breath of fresh air that brings back "horror" in survival horror. There's plenty of things going on that are right in the game; the atmosphere is phenomenally tense, the first person camera works wonders to immerse you into some of the most beautiful graphics ever released, and the sound design will make you jump at every footstep that isn't yours. The story is on-par with resident evil, which is to say it isn't downright brilliant, but it's more than serviceable and by no means working in the game's detriment.

True to its roots, you'll need to manage your inventory, ammo and resources very carefully or find yourself in difficult predicaments; the enemies aren't lightning-fast, but they require some tactical thinking and very precise and careful use of time or ammo to dispatch. The difficulty curve is fairly linear, with only the "boss" fights to keep you on your toes, as the game only has a very limited pool of regular enemies.

To the game's detriment however is its length; you can expect a playtime of about 4 to 8 hours on normal or easy mode (with an achievement to complete the game under 4 hours) and maybe a bit more for "Madhouse" difficulty. The game only sports 2 different endings, which is a little disappointing given the previously released Demo.

This however is hardly a detracting quality; RE7 is definitely a phenomenal game, and if you can stomach the relatively short completion time for its asking price, you won't be dissapointed.

There's a lot to love about Chronicon. Like many other reviews, the comparison to oldschool Diablo is spot-on. Since its early days, a lot's been done to make the combat feel fluid and pleasant, and to add a little bit of variety to the game. On the upside, the game will shower you with loot and you'll never feel like you've been playing forever without changing some of your gear around, and there's never really a dull a moment in the game.
On the downside though, the animations are honestly servicable at best; they aren't /bad/ by any stretch, mind you, but they lack a little bit of fluidity. The game (as of the time of writing) does suffer from a little bit of jerkyness too; picking up currency often creates a really awkward stutter that's kind of hard to look past. Still, all of these things are minor gripes at best, and honestly very easy to look past.
The one thing that really brings the game down for me though, is just how completely overcrowded some of the earlier dungeons feel. Before level 10, you're reusing the same skill or two repeatedly to slowly cleave your way through enemies that are so cramped together, you barely get any time to go through your inventory to look at the loot you picked up. Some folks might enjoy this, but spending 1+ hour on the same dungeon level with 200+ enemies makes progressing through the game feel a little sluggish. Your mileage may vary.

Another isometric hack and slash action with a bit of age, the first instalment of the Van Helsing trilogy plays phenomenally well but isn't without it's share of problems either.

While you may think this is just another tired old diablo clone, Van Helsing's first part delivers some fun that can take you back to the days of Diablo II, and forget that its third sibling came out in the first place. While class selection may be hidden behind a pay wall, the basic hunter class has the potential to answer any and every call you may have when it comes to combat style. Having personally opted for the caster route (just to see if I could), i was pleasantly surprised by the end of the game.

Where Van Helsing suffers the most is in its oddly placed difficulty curve; the game could feel trivial one moment, and then single handedly kill you before you get to quaff a potion in the other. These instances of absolute maddening frustration are an example of the odd power-creep that occurs during the game. Each new chapter feels like you're incredibly behind, but midway through, you'll be breezing through screens covered in enemies without losing more than a few bits of health. Another frustration is that most major bosses have endlessly spawning trash enemies, which add to the nonstop annoyance, and in the case of the final encounter, can be downright infuriating.

Still, despite its flaws, Van Helsing is a solid game, though you may be better off buying the complete edition rather than the episodic content.

DFS is a gorgeous roguelike that wears its inspiration on its sleeve, but never gives you a heavy handed smack with its complexity. Although in a classic sense, DFS is a good example of a modern take on the roguelike/lite genre,a few things feel a bit lackluster in the complete package. The campaign mode is enchanting, but incredibly repetitive. It follows a simple formula that boils down to "do a few randomly generated "go here, do this" quests, then receive something to advance the story". While this isn't really a problem, it feels like it's delaying the storyline unnecessarily by making what should essentially be "sidequests" into a necesary part of the game.

The randomly generated modes of the game offer great fun in a nicely digestible format. If you're itching for something to sink a few hours at a time in without excessive frustration, this may be your ticket. If you're looking for a deep, complex roguelike such as ADOM or ToME, the lack of options may feel a little restrictive.

This version of ADOM offers something a little more visually pleasing than the colored ASCII versions that are offered for free. It's the same old ADOM you've learned to love if you're a roguelike fan, and an excellent (though challenging) first step for newcomers that isn't too alienating with its presentation and tutorial function.

After having played games like Torchlight 1/2, Diablo 1 through 3, Path of Exile and the likes, I find myself looking at Devilian with an overall feeling of "meh" attached to it. The game isn't terrible by any stretch, and if you find yourself burnt out on other ARPGs, then sure this might be up your alley.

But Devilian's flaws aren't in its presentation or even in how it tries to mix up the formula. The meat of the game, the combat, feels fairly clunky. Skills feel robotic and just lack the flow that you'd find in other games of the genre. The customization options are weak, the classes are unoriginal, and even the skills feel a little too "inspired" by the games that came before it.

On the positive note though, the "MMO" feel of the game does create a feeling of living in a populated world, and feels reminiscent of classics like Mu online. This both plays to the game's strength, but also caters to its weaknesses by forcing incredibly quick respawn timers on quest mobs.

It's a shame, because I was legitimately looking forward to this game.

Original Sin is every bit the old-school RPG it set out to be. Reminiscent of Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, and all of the other classic turn-based fantasy RPGs of old. Boasting beautiful isometric graphics, and a stellar character development system, Original Sin kept the best of the old, and created something all new for hardcore gamers to min-max at their leisure.
When it comes to the difficulty, Original Sin doesn't play around. Even on normal difficulty the game is incredibly challenging and will no doubt leave many gamers rage-quitting after forgoing a quicksave when caught up in a particular story arc. Be warned ye who enter: checkpoints are very few and far apart, and the game encourages to save often for a REASON.
With a campaign that spans well over its asking price, fans looking for a long, epic trek shouldn't even hesitate to grab this, even at full price, it's a steal.
