The racing mechanics are solid and the visual presentation is striking and appealing.

However, the voice work of the copilots comes across as problematic.
Both from an angle where the banter is prioritized over turn call-outs, and that the characters are being depicted as borderline offensive racial stereotypes. (Not all Chinese people need to reference kung fu)

Also, why can't I revisit campaign races?

I like it, but it has things to fix before the full release.

Cute animals, an unnerving amount of body horror, and the overthrowing of established religious practice?

One of the most pleasant descents into fever-dream psychopathy I've ever made the mistake of purchasing.

A cutesy pixelated art style and cartoony animal characters betray a dauntingly complex dungeon crawler based off of an inventory management system akin to Resident Evil 4, but with 800 plus different items that all do something slightly different.

As a first game someone has ever made, it's impressive. As a game in general, it's competent but overall rather underwhelming. Slenderman but in an industrial setting. Hopefully the developer takes what he's set here as a foundation for more ambitious projects in the future.

The main campaign rocked me for introducing a racing game laced with an ominous atmosphere, mixed with impressive traversal mechanics that makes this an impressive "zoner" title. However, that was little more than an introductory appetizer, because an active and creative community ensures that you'll have enough material to keep you racing until the sun explodes.

Honestly, I am probably the worst kind of person for a game like this to target. Horror being an entirely subjective emotion, I was mostly unaffected by the game's attempts at scaring me. What it does halfway decently is startle. Although to be put into a state to be startled, in the very least I was somewhat drawn in by the atmosphere, but the old camera aesthetic seemed to occasionally be at its detriment when I was just trying to see where I was going and initiated one of it's signal static transitions. To go back and explain why I am a poor target for this game, I am a first responder in my daily life. The abilities to manage my appearance, outward demeanor, and most of all panic responses are acquired skills, and the eponymous goal of the game, "Don't Scream", was a rather low hurdle for me to clear. In fact, so long as I maintained the mindset I needed to, I was then almost comforted by the thought that I was seemingly immune to the game's failure state. Additionally, some of the game's tactics to prompt a response seemed a bit cheap. In my playthrough I had crows fly straight up from the ground about 6 times and by the last time I was cracking jokes in my head. I also developed a habit of walking straight at whatever monster was manifesting which I feel is the exact opposite intention of what the game wants from a player. The imagery and graphical style were competent but elements seemed to just be placed at random. Being in early access and having the topics of lore, more dynamic scares, and other improvements outright stated as being marks for improvement in future make me hesitant to harp those matters, so I'll leave with this. Don't Scream gives me the impression of being a horror game either meant to be "reacted to" by streamers or other personalities, or those that like to torture their more panicky friends. I don't hate the game but I am definitely not subject to its brand of horror.

This game can be described as a more relaxing and short-form version of Railroad Tycoon. I found it perfectly relaxing and satisfying to complete. My biggest complaint is I could spend so much more time playing and still want more after 20 hours and 100% completing all objectives.

Solid shooting, an engrossing soundtrack, an undercurrent of humor, and a very enjoyable experience in spite of its brevity and the inability to pause to change settings. You have to do that on the main menu.

Simple, spooky, and short. The biggest down side is the length, which can come to about 90 minutes. Otherwise, one of the most engrossing atmospheric horror games I've played in a while.
