As long as the same people are behind GameMaker, it will always be horrible.

There is no good reason to use this, much less actually pay for it. It's a bundle of bad decisions, and the arrogant and incompetent people behind it will most likely be the reason why you would not be able to use it more than half of the time.

In 2022, it would be a complete waste of time for you to even begin to learn GameMaker. The time you will spend troubleshooting and fiddling with the actual IDE before you get to work on any prototype or game will be more than the time you will spend making the game.

Their documentation is inconsistent, their vision is flawed. Even after getting bought out by Opera, they still make the same mistakes over and over again. For example, they recently shipped an update with a catastrophic bug in both Mac and Windows versions of GMS2, which created a massive delay (weeks) on which there were different versions on every platform..

This is what they always do. They break essential things, they take far too long to update essential things, and they include way too many changes in every update, and every update takes FAR TOO LONG, and every update has a catastrophic bug in it (and that is AFTER they ship it to YOU!, UNTESTED!)

This is where they will most likely ruin you even if you can create something of matter and publish it. For example, let's say you publish a game on the Google Play Store and you have an audience. Google makes changes to their platform and requires you to update. You can't update though, because you are using Game Maker, and you have to wait for the boomers behind GameMaker to update it.

You will wait a long time, because instead of fixing the most important things frequently, they just shove in everything they are doing, untested, and ship it to you.

And now they want you to pay MONTHLY for this ?
I have no idea in what world we are living for these people to not go bankrupt and shut down this miserable project down.

There is ZERO sense to use GameMaker, when there is Godot, open-sourced and free. There is even ZERO sense to use GameMaker, when there is also Unity, which is free, and Unreal Engine, which is also free.

Think of it this way, if you want to actually learn to program with the right practices and designs, GameMaker will ruin you. It has nothing to offer. You will learn nothing of use in the real world. It's filled with holes, gaps and bad practices.

If you use Godot, Unity or Unreal Engine, you will actually program in a real language. (C#, C++). Even if you use GDScript (Godot's Scripting Langauge), you will still learn better practices than using dumb ol' game maker language.

Do your research, and you will see this is the truth. If you want to spend more than half of the time troubleshooting instead of actually creating something great, then use game maker..

"Electronic Arts have no hand in the development of Apex Legends"..

What a bunch of lies..

I played this game from Season 01 to Season 04. Have had about 1100 hours of gameplay on Origin before I quit, because every season the game got worse and worse. Season 01 through the end of Season 03 had a game breaking bug where you would randomly disconnect, even from Ranked Matches, leaving you with wasted time and no RP. Respawn were SO SLOW in fixing this, that it took 2 Seasons to resolve.

I said to myself, maybe when it comes to Steam it would be better.. boy was I lying to myself..

Game menu runs at about 10 FPS, and according to community feedback, it is related to your friends list? This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Can you imagine how lazy the developers were to not notice this? So what? If you have 200 friends, the friend list gets rendered all the time, even if you are not viewing it? What other reason there could be for this ridiculous "bug". By the time this will be fixed, Season 8 will probably be out.

Also, and you have probably all seen this by now, but in case you did not:

DO NOT BUY SEASON 07 BATTLE PASS!

It has been infested with artificial delays and difficulties. You now have to spend 5x-10x more time to level up. Play 6-7 good games with lots of kills and win half of them? No problem, here you go, you are still Battle Pass LEVEL 01..

I was so hopeful that Electronic Arts being back on Steam would equal at least a bit of improvement for this game, but it is clear that EA should not have been let back on Steam.

I hope one day EA gets destroyed, but that's just wishful thinking. You cannot stop an evil conglomerate. You can either be a part of it and let them stomp on you, or vote with your wallet and don't waste your time..

What a terrible waste. EA has ruined another company, as they ruin everything they touch.

Edit:

Since Steam Release, we got one update, which was supposed to fix the game menu, but it fails to do so. The game menu is still very slow.. runs at about 25-30~ fps now instead of 10. I fail to understand why it is so difficult for the developers to fix this..

Another update they did server side was cut the amount of experience needed to level up a Battle Pass level in half. This did not help AT ALL. Leveling up the Battle Pass is still about ~5x times slower than the previous seasons.

It's clear they want it to stay like that so that people who have normal lives wouldn't be able to level it up and just try to force them to buy Battle Pass levels. This game is slowly turning into another cash-grab for no life little sweats that do nothing all day except play Video Games, and they want to force them to only play Apex Legends..

The devs also made an AMA on Reddit which was incredibly hilarious.. You can look it up for yourself...

Do I recommend No Man's Sky? Yes

Will I sit here to explain to you why? No

Why will I not explain ? Because you will prefer to listen to negative reviews of prepubescent entitled children that are angry because their mommies and daddies don't give them enough attention at home anyway...

Played four matches of this game and it looks amazing and plays amazing. It runs on Unreal Engine with Easy anti-cheat, and has some great PvE mechanics.

The only problem with this game is people from the United States, and other countries far from the EU have destroyed this game with their negative reviews. From what I read and experienced, the game has EU server only. I have not had a problem with latency or finding people to play with (mostly due to the sale at this moment), but this game is definitely very underrated.

If you enjoyed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, you will definitely enjoy this game. Even with 10 or 15 people in-game it's still fun, as the environment is changing, and not necessarily for the better. You will be attacked by packs of wolves, and approached by a White Wolf, which if you kill could get the heart from it and make Wolves unable to attack you while giving you the ability to summon a pack of wolves with it. I think this is simply amazing.

The weather is also changing, it could be windy - which will render you to move slower, it could rain&mist.

Game is simply amazing, very underrated, and mostly by entitled people who don't know what the hell they are doing. If you are from EU (which most likely, if you played S.T.A.L.K.E.R., there is a higher chance you are from the EU), then pick it up. If enough support arises from this maybe it could be improved in the future.

Early Access Review
I've been fiddling around with and following the free SpaceEngine version that is available on the developers' website for download for quite a while.

SpaceEngine is an amazing 3D Astronomy Software that is in development since 2005 !! I first came across the free version two years ago and have been spending countless hours in it. It's simply a breathtaking experience, even if you don't know anything about astronomy or space. In fact, it's best then, because you get to feed your newborn curiosity and start learning a lot of things you might have thought you would never be able to learn.

I've been waiting for SpaceEngine to come to Steam for a long time. The announcement of the release resulted in an instant buy for me. Not only this version has several aspect rewritten, but it is going to get constantly updated in the future!

Simple to pick up, Powerful and Flexible when learned.
I have been using Game Maker since 2004, and still do.

Edit(2022):
There is no real reason to use GameMaker anymore. We have Godot (Open Sourced), Unity, Unreal Engine and countless others.

You do not need to pick-up GameMaker Language to learn to code. It will in fact hinder your ability to learn to be a good programmer, and to learn good practices and designs.
