We turkeys had it rough in North America before the arrival of colonist, There were no developed cities in which to forage for scraps. We turkeys were frequently caught between flying arrows as tribes were constantly at war, Sometimes our flocks would be captured by marauding tribes. The tom's would be forced to watch as the hatchlings were scalped and the braves had their way with our nubile hens. Occasionally our hens would escape only to return to tell us of the horrors of living with the indigenous people. When the brave returned to the TeePee with the smell of roasted cornmeal, mush, and fire water from the colonist we knew that we would be violated. We prefer Colonial rule as now we turkeys are at the head of the table during Thanksgiving. Although our lives are short, We are well fed and celebrated in this culture. The colonist celebrate turkeykind and promote us as being a healthy food source. We never want to go back to those uncivilized pre-colonial days of savagery.
