Truly one of the last good CoD games.
The time that it's set in is great, it's like the perfect mix between legacy military combat and technology. It's a shame that more wasn't done in this cold war era. The zombies was great too, maps like Ascension and Call of the Dead were some of my favorite maps in the whole of the Zombies timeline. They were simple, well designed and the gimmicks and Easter eggs they contained were in-depth and great!

The multiplayer also had some quite abstract, but well executed ideas, I liked the currency system first of all, it was different and it gave you a reason to play other than just to level up, you could earn more money which could be spend on new calling cards and attachments for weapons or even just new weapons themselves. Also, if you wanted to, you could try your luck in gambling, interesting game modes like “Gungame” and “One in the Chamber” were a great way to compete to win other people's money, I remember losing like 10,000 points on one of the high stakes modes and I was gutted, I actually cared about it, which is something I can't say for more recent Call of Duty titles, they lack innovation, I mean sure, you can call all of this future jetpack s*** innovation but really all it does is detract from the experience, the future is overdone and boring, I liked playing the campaigns in Call of Duty games because they took you to conflicts that happened in the past and created a story based around said conflicts, when you take things into the future all you do is make it generic and uninteresting. Who cares what happens in some futuristic fictional war that will never happen? I sure don't.

In summary, I like Call of Duty: Black Ops because of its use of recent history, you get to see places like Vietnam during the war and I think that's real swell. Also most of the multiplayer maps were based around areas that had seen conflict during the past at some point, which gave it a good historical feeling. I do think that this is the last game so far in the CoD series to do this (I've played every one apart from Ghosts), and I just wish that the devs at Treyarch and IW would take my criticisms into consideration, I know they won't, but it would be really nice to see a return to the basics next time it's CoD season.
I'd give this game a 8/10, not that my rating carries any weight or anything, I mean I'm just your standard game player (I'd say gamer but as of late the connotations of the word in the realms of pop culture make me cringe too much to consider myself as a gamer.)

Side note: I'm talking mostly from my experiences on the Xbox 360 version of this game, just a heads up in-case there's any inconsistencies in this review. Give us a rate if you enjoyed my insight or whatever.

Honestly not that bad, there's a few fps related problems particularly in Zombies mode such as particle effects causing drops and such. Apart from that, t'is a pretty gooood game.
