PSA: (Review below)

If you're going to buy this game then go buy the Director's Cut Version. Directers Cut is cheaper plus apparently has "improved graphics", "Improved controls", and a survival mode. You cannot upgrade to this supposedly improved verson of the game.

Review

TL;DR
The game is average. Its visually stunning but the Gameplay and the story are not on that same level.

Gameplay
The gameplay has two distinct parts to be honest. The Platformer part and the Combat part. For both the controls feel chunky. The platforming needs you to be in a certain spot to jump up or to do certain actions. Precision movements aren't possible and at times that's what the game really wants. Zombies can grab you while your climbing which forces you to push them back (or attempt to kill them). You can attack them with your axe but it doesn't feel like it does enough damage. It feels like it has no force behind it (It can take 2 - 3 swings to kill a downed zombie). The shooting mechanic is one of the worst I have ever seen in a side scroller/platformer.

Story
The plot isn't anything too terrible or special for that matter. It feels like wasted potential and that makes the story feel very underwhelming especially when you take into account how much effort the developers put into the gorgeous art style. The way its written borderlines on cringy and the voice acting falls flat (I believe that they were trying to make the main character sound gruffy).

Overall:

The games visuals are its best feature to be brutally honest. I would recommend the game only because its pretty decent at times but honestly If you are going to buy it then get the Director's Cut. It is cheaper and supposedly improved (you thought I was gonna ignore my PSA ;D).

Edit:
I am torn if this should be considered a yes or no for the recommendation. I recommend the game but not this verson? They are essentially the same game but one is improved and considered a different game on steam (plus cheaper).

Orignal Review (April 2017):
This game is fun and cute but the servers are dead. I tried a few times at different times of day and couldn't find a single person.

They added a map editor and workshop in August (2017) but it didn't change the deserted servers

I could only recommend this game if there was people playing. (Or if it had something to play solo like fighting smart AI/Story mode/Anything).

TL;DR
This game is strange... very strange . That is a good thing though.

Style
It has a very retro 80s point and click style to it that lend itself overall to the atmosphere. The voice acting pretty good and fits the story nicely.

Gameplay
Mechanically its a standard point and click adventure. My only issue with the game design is that the without a quest tracker or something like that some times I felt slighly lost on what to do. The puzzles are minimal to the point that they borderline on nonexistent.

Story
Story wise it is super compelling. At first the game feels slow almost boring till the information being given sinks in and you realize how intense things really are. This game is creepy at some points and weird at others but it never feels out of place or cheap. It adds to the overall atmosphere of the game. The game is rather short though; Its about a hour and a half long game.

Overall:

Its a good weird game and with its price point shouldnt be passed up.

Edit:
I do have a small admission though. I accidentally started with the third Chapter then did the first Chapter and finished with the second Chapter after realizing my mistake. Honsetly after doing all three I like the that format better then doing the Chapters in order.

This game isn't terrible. It's basic in design and in play. It is free though.

The sounds (along with the fact at the time of this games release it was the only Baynetta game on PC) are the worst things about it.

This game has super simple premise. Kill everyone.

It ends up being super addicting and fun. It can be hard at times because the events/traps can change every restart and sometimes the police/bouncer AI is sorta random causing you to get caught for dumb reasons. The acting and story are super over the top (in a good way) which is amusing.

If you haven't played Garry's Mod your missing out.

This game has so many different game modes that there is literally something for everyone.

The only issue I have with the game is that the in-game server browser has much to be desired but other then that its a great game.

TL;DR
I like the game and it has a lot of potential but it gets a bit too grindy and AI is slightly frustrating (and doesn't make sense). Those two main reasons why I do not recommend this game.

Resource Management (AKA THE GRIND)
At first everything is fine because you start out with enough supplies to last a weekish. So you send some people out... you barely get anything and it's RNG what items you get to look at. Overly Limited inventory space forces you browse not buy a lot of items because there is a massive amount of items (a overwhelming amount) in the game for crafting. Many of them you may not even be able to use till later game or you just don’t know what it's for. Need food? Can't find it. Need items to make a trap for food? Can't find those either. To go out you use water; the further you go the more you use. If you run out of water you can hope it rains (it's not, RNG is not on your side) or hope for a trader. Without the water your people can't drink, bathe, or go out. This starts this endless loop that always ends badly (for me it always did).

With games like this a little bit of grinding is expected. The thing is that unlike when I played This War of Mine or Fallout Shelter I wasnt having fun after the first few hours.

AI
In theory you have the choice to either set your people to Autopilot or micromanage everything or do both. In practice you only have the latter two options because when you set your people to auto pilot they don't do certain things that are actually pretty important .

The most frustrating thing though is that you can let random people join your group and they go into forced Autopilot till you gain their loyalty (they can't be sent out also). That sounds great! Someone to help get stuff and go out for me when they trust me. The issue is it takes a long time and they just eat/drink you out of home shelter. Along with that there is a chance they will murder one of your people then just up and leave randomly. I was in shock when it happened to me. There is no way to screen for this murdering behaviour from what I can tell so I just don't add anyone.

Overall:

This game is fun for a bit till it turns into a grind fest. It's simple but nice art style and simple premise lend themselves to the game overall. Honeslty I could live with the murdering AI but the pure RNG loot combined with the overwhelming amount of loot lead to the grind which is too much. If the game was rebalanced loot wise or something along those lines I will play it again and change my not recommended if required.

TL;DR
I highly recommend this game. The Style, Gameplay, and Decisions are superb.

Style
This game's visuel style is stunning. The mute colours and the slightly fuzed out parts of the screen indicating areas out of the characters line of sight overall lend themselfs to the atmosphere.

Gameplay
The game has a day and night cycle. Day time your inside your house were you can fortify it for protection, be involved with random events, produce items, and take care of your characters. Night time you can choose one of your characters to go out and hunt for items. You can choose which location they go to but there different risks and benefits along with threats.

Decisions
This game is brutal and pulls no punches.

Let's say all four of your characters are exhausted from too many nights awake. They are becoming sad and unproductive. In desperation you let them all sleep through the night. Big mistake, your people get raided that night and the character with the most Backpack space (who you normally send out at night to collect supplies) gets injured.

That would be fine but you gave the last of your pain meds to some kids who came to the door that day and you were planning on collecting bandages in a few days. You let the character rest during the day hoping for the best.

When night falls you put one of your characters on watch afraid that you will be raided again. You send the another to a high risk location because you have already raided the low risk locations for meds. You let the last one and injured one sleep through the night. You don't find what you need and have to do this a couple of nights in a row. You alternate between the three uninjured characters but you pick the one character with the second highest Backpack space the most to go out at night. That character becomes so exhausted that their movement speed slows. They get caught by a enemy and die.

You now have three people; one who is very badly hurt at this point from lack of proper aids. You have no food and limited supplies. Do you risk someone else to get medical supplies or do you prioritize food? Your characters are sad and tired. If someone else dies your other characters will slip completely into depressed and become unresponsive. Possibly killing themselfs.

Overall:

This game is beautiful in its design, Heart wrenching in its decisions, and savage in its gameplay. All of this stems from the games realistic portrayal of a Conflict zone from a civilian point of view.

This game is fantastic and builds apon everything great from the first game.

The gameplay feels improved/enhanced and the story is just as interesting as the first game's with a lot of interesting new elements.
