Walking sim + detective stuff + cyberpunk + linear story

I would describe this game as a mix between Firewatch, L.A. Noire and Cyberpunk in terms of mechanics and aesthetic.

Some extremely cool mechanics and tools available at your disposal. Game runs pretty well for me once I messed with the settings and enabled TSR Performance.

I recommend this game because it is an overall good experience and I don't think the game should be dunked on because it's essentially a walking simulator.

The devs had a story they wanted to tell and developed a high quality game with good voice acting, dialogue, humour and mechanics.

The only major gripe for me is that the story because convoluted and messy for not much gain, and this derails some major twists and turns that massively shattered my immersion. Before this happened, this game was a 4.5/5 for me. I would still recommend.

So far, I genuinely think this game's reputation gets a bad wrap.

My only issue with the game is after the prologue, there's a severe lack of effort put into the soundtrack and backing music. In fact, the background music almost disappears entirely.

I love my detective games and I'm generally quite critical, but I'm enjoying myself for the most part. I just think reading words in silence is a bit uncomfortable at times.

I'm curious to see how this wraps up. The fact that this game gets bashed the way it does, I'm not expecting anything special, but for the five euros I spent on this - it's not bad.

As someone who is always looking for quality detective games (see my hours for LA Noire) - I somehow never came across this game. I've been browsing detective games since 2011 to scratch that itch, and not once did I come across this gem of a game.

As soon as I saw the trailer, I purchased it, and even though I'm just an hour in, I feel like my purchase is justified.

If you like horror-esque games (not straight up horror; more like Alan Wake II), love the cyberpunk aesthetic, and love detective games... then this is the game for you!

**UPDATE**

After finishing, I can say this game is definitely worth a playthrough. I don't mind that it's mostly a walking simulator with a few puzzles thrown in, as the story and protagonist are enough to keep you hooked.

The world is vibrant, alive, and feels real. The characters have depth and history.

There are two downsides for me.

First, is that this game falls into the lazy trope of "hide from monsters" like Amnesia or Outlast. It's an identical mechanic that the game doesn't need to make you feel in danger. Without divulging spoilers, there's enough tension that something MIGHT happen that it's not necessary for something TO happen. If that makes sense.

Second, the mouse controls are incredibly frustrating. Doors open slowly and all mechanics that require the use of the mouse require me to move my mouse like 50 times. Sometimes I'm approaching a door, I click and drag my mouse and nothing happens, and I have to do it multiple times. It's frustrating and immersion breaking at times.

If you had told me that Fictional Games had created a version of Amnesia that was cyberpunk and dystopian, and then presented me with this game, I would have wholeheartedly believed you without a second thought.

This game is definitely worth a playthrough if you don't mind the hiding-from-monsters thing. For me, it feels cheap and really takes me out of the game. In this instance, it damaged my perception of the game but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

I'd give this game a solid 7/10 because of that.

-5 MONTH REVIEW-

I grew up in the golden era of wrestling video games, and when AEW Fight Forever was announced, I was ecstatic. Boasting old-school vibes, mechanics and art style, this is everything I wanted from a video game.

Unfortunately, the lack of content, support and features is overwhelming (yes - I am genuinely stunned how barebones this is) to the point where this game is a must-miss.

I purchased the Elite Edition. This gave me the impression that I am supporting a grassroots game from the start, and that I would get additional content whilst the game matures & improves over the coming years. This is the impression AEW Games/THQ gave when they talked about this as well. Evil Uno also said this on a live stream several times also.

I get none of the above. I got Matt Hardy (????????? great) and I still have to purchase additional DLCs in future despite supporting the game from the beginning.

Outside of the lack of transparency of bundles, the game has fundamental flaws in terms of actual play-ability. For example, if you somehow win the Battle Royal at the very, very start of Road to Elite mode, and then go on and win the AEW world title, the game completely ignores the fact that you've won the title and they don't acknowledge it or have you defend it. Your journey continues on as if you're STILL going after the AEW title... What??

Weapons constantly fall over and bug out, it is IMPOSSIBLE to kick out and THEY WON'T FIX IT. You can spam as fast as you can despite only taking one signature move from your opponent and lose. This is an ongoing issue they literally won't fix.

The images in Road to Elite are genuinely flat PNG files with absolutely no thought put into them, the commentary (particularly JR) are lax at best, the little sentences above wrestler's names that are usually witty are basic, bland and not updated, and - for whatever reason - they haven't enabled crossplay so this game is completely and utterly dead on PC.

I am based in Ireland and I have been trying to play online for months, and I literally have never been able to find an online game despite owning this game on release.

In amongst all of the negatives, there are positives! Such as:
  • The gameplay is incredibly fun and fluid for the most part
  • I really like the controls and they make sense
  • It feels arcadey and like the old games
  • Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, CM Punk, etc are all awesome and the moves feel really good
  • You can pick and choose what jukebox songs you want to play

Despite the small positives above, it breaks my heart to say that this game - as of right now - is a 100% miss. I know you want to give it a chance because you'll think you'll like it more than I do, and you might, but I don't think that's the issue. I think it's a fundamental issue and I would wait to buy this game heavily discounted or not at all.

I think the issues are so blatant and unavoidable that they're impossible to ignore. I have no faith in this game's improvement, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Fight Forever 2 announced in 2024.

This is probably the most optimised PC port I've ever played. I had 60fps solid with a Ryzen 5 3600X and an RTX 3060... with Ray-tracing turned on! (which I didn't realise until almost completing the main story)

The combat is extremely repetitive but the story itself is very good, the game has very good mechanics and a bunch of customisation in terms of suits. I enjoyed it a lot and the difficult scaling is good too.

This game is actually very good when it works, but the PC port is the most unoptimised thing I've ever played it's incredible. 60% CPU and 30% GPU, and somehow the game bottlenecked itself to wild FPS swings constantly. An absolutely garbage port.

I did not enjoy this game unfortunately. The game felt a bit bland, had some graphical issues and in general, didn't hit the vibe I thought it would. Specifically, the keybinds for controller were ridiculously bad.
