Suddenly stopped receiving updates 3 years ago while still in a state of buggy and clunky gameplay. Not worth it in the slightest; stick to FTL.

Abandonware. Stay clear. Dev is pursuing his new, more successful game of a completely different genre. A shame.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker—the epitome of amazing potential but underwhelming execution. Ship variety is lacking, story is your unimaginative "megacorporation is bad/treating workers badly" but acceptable.

Was the game fun? Eh, somewhat. It was pretty grindy due to lacking ship variety.
It's just meh in so many aspects, and so I wouldn't recommend this experience.

This is certainly a big name in the factory-building genre, and in that sense, it is predictable: Your early game is somewhat slow, but the game expands dramatically in the mid-and endgame. It differs dramatically from most other factory games by allowing you to visit different planets and even solar systems, where you can set up production chains and ship them to and fro as your heart desires.

Coming from Factorio, up until very recently I would describe this game as "janky 3D Factorio." There is simply way less polish to this than what Factorio presents us. To name some of the more annoying details: there are several major issues with blueprints (you can't flip them, sorters (= Factorio inserters) are not placed when they are within a blueprint but a belt they are feeding to is already present); you can't drag power poles; there are no lamps, except an insignificant light your character emits, to light the planets which are in most cases dark half the time; and there are no indicators to keep track of where something is on your 3D planets.

The above does not mean the game is bad, but it certainly is far from perfect. Yet that didn't ruin my experience, as the game has many positives going for it. Therefore, I can recommend it to any enjoyer of the genre.

Stellar Initiative is an unassuming rogue-lite RTS/tower-defence game that scores many points thanks to its seeming simplicity. Veiled behind that, however, is tons and tons of nuance. Where the easier difficulty may already prove a challenge, the harder ones will really test your mettle.

Another big positive is the game's active development. Its creator is steadily seeking feedback and plans to update the game beyond, perhaps even far beyond, its current scope.
