Extremely disappointed.

I was really looking forward for this game with friends which I also convinced to get the game. 80 minutes in and there's a TON of problems. Thankfully, we were under the 2 hour mark so refunds are possible

1. Fullscreen doesn't work if you have two monitors. We were streaming the game so we needed both monitors and each time we fullscreened it would go to the 2nd monitor, which obviously caused a lot of issues.

2. We switched it to 'windowed' mode, but windowed mode is NOT compatible with all monitors. The size was too small to fit my monitor from the options available. We couldn't fullscreen the windowed mode either, because when you press 'esc' in game to get out of the settings menu, it would reset the windowed tab to its original size

3. Crashing issues. There was SO MUCH crashing, we couldn't get past the 1st act of the 1st mission. Notable crashes were during cutscenes or after each 'fight' area. Even after turning down the resolution and graphics, it would still happen. All of our PC's are compatible if not more than compatible to run this game. We tried 5 TIMES because we were streaming, but again the game is unplayable due to the crashes (at least in co-op, which is what we bought the game for)

I would add any other gameplay bugs/issues, but again we didn't get far.

First of all, I want to thank the developers for letting me be able to play this game! It's been fun and I definitely think that there's a lot of room for improvement.

Graphics
I love the unique graphics of the game! It has a very distinct, black outlined style that looks amazing! A bit of the anatomy for some of the characters can be touched up on, but otherwise the designs of each character is extremely unique and promising! I do hope that more characters are added so I can fulfill my dream of running a full female team :3

Music / OST's
The music serves well in helping with ambiance for the game. However, nothing really stands out for me, but it certainly does help add charm to the game.

Story / Lore
The story of the game isn't extremely impressionable. We follow Thyria who is a witch. With materials we gain from missions, we can transmute them into characters that are able to be used in combat. The prologue of the game mainly focuses on introducing us to the flesh of the plot - that being that Thyria is a witch who can enter dreams to 'cure' people of ailments. That's her entire goal, to cure people of the village near her and to find out more about herself/her mother.

Difficulty
Difficulty-wise, there's a few options to choose from. I believe there was at least a normal and a hard option. I went with hard since I always love a good challenge! Overall though, even hard wasn't too hard and was manageable for me. I beat the prologue on hard and although I struggled a bit getting past some mobs (due to resistances against my attacks and my poor team building), it proved not extremely difficult.

Replayability
Currently there isn't very much replayability as the game is still in its prologue. However, I expect that the replayability of the game will be decent since the way the missions are set up are extremely reminiscent of the system within Darkest Dungeon.

Negatives
Considering this game came from an indie studio, I feel as though they did a great job with introducing the game so far! A few things that I do want to add is overall bug fixing, more accuracy on clicks (clicks feel weird/off center). More tutorials regarding status effects, the bar at the top during combat, etc also helps!

Is It Worth It For The Price?
Short answer: N/A - currently under development/in prologue
Long answer: I would try the free version of the game to see if it fits the style of game that you enjoy! Some don't enjoy turn-based games, but as someone that does enjoy the Darkest Dungeon, turn-based game type I would recommend giving Thyria a shot!

First of all, I want to thank the developers for letting me be able to play this game! It's been a blast and the systems of the game honestly remind me of Hades with how the random traits can be.

Graphics
I love the Lovecraftian theme that the game has! Personally, I really liked the look of graphics that has dark black outlines. It just makes it that much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Music / OST's
The music serves well in helping with ambiance for the game. However, nothing really stands out so far for me (I'm currently on the third area of the game, with there being 7 areas total I believe).

Story / Lore
The story starts off with a small cutscene about the character you're playing (Mr. C) wanting to prove himself. Outside of that, not much context is given to us, even as we progress through the areas. However, there are lore entries and mob descriptions which does add to the world building. This also includes NPC descriptions among other pieces of lore scattered about the place! Not to mention there's a few notable NPC's but a LOT of interesting ones in side areas.

Difficulty
Difficulty-wise, I don't believe there's an option or slider for how hard the game is. This isn't really a pro or con for me, as I actually enjoy the current difficulty of the game. Runs can be easier or harder depending on which levels you choose and what levels are available to you. Of course, there's a collectable currency that can be used to level up your abilities regardless of whether or not you successfully complete a run, which slowly makes the game easier as you progress.

Replayability
Since I did mention Hades earlier, I want to point out that the replayability of the game is super similar to the system that Hades runs on. You're supposed to die and have to rerun through areas multiple times. This will give you access to new abilities as you complete challenges and earn more currency! So I would say there is a lot of replayability in Madshot.

Negatives
Considering this game came from an indie studio, I feel as though they did a great job with the game! Of course, a few interactions with the dashes and jumps can feel a bit janky or restrictive at times, but otherwise there's not many negatives! There is of course, things to improve on such as the sound track, but that's not necessarily a negative.

Is It Worth It For The Price?
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: It's definitely worth it for the price. I can see many hours being put into this game alone. The graphics are nice and the gameplay is enjoyable, especially for those who enjoy Lovecraftian themes such as I do!

I loved the graphics and the creepy lore/atmosphere of the game. I truly did want to recommend this game, because it's done fantastically by the small dev team behind it. Unfortunately, my biggest gripe with the game comes in a very big game breaking bug that I have encountered. It is a bug that occurs later in the game so

!! SPOILER WARNING !!

After you get to the part in which the school starts collapsing, you are directed towards the door that leads back to the Main Building. This door however, is not functioning and you need to boot it up with a generator. After booting up a generator and running back up the stairs, if you're killed by the killer before making it through the doors then you are LOCKED OUT of completing the game.

The game does NOT allow you to backtrack into the basement and check whether the generator is running or not. It also does not allow the door to be interacted with/opened. Thus, you're stuck in the collapsing with no way out. This only occurs if you're killed by the killer during the time frame after you boot up the generator, but before you make it through the doors.

Sekiro is a masterpiece of a game and I would highly recommend this game to veterans or those who are into more grindy/difficult games. It features a lot of controls to get used to, however once everything clicks the game becomes much more enjoyable. The game is my first attempt at any 'souls-like' game (so I have not played Dark Souls or any of the Nioh entries to compare Sekiro to). As of the time of this review, I have reached the Sunken Valley location for context.

Graphics / Cut Scenes
The graphics are gritty and leans more towards semirealism/realism over a more stylized art style. Currently I have explored up until the Sunken Valley location and for the most part everything is not super color or bright (however the instances where there is a bigger splash of color, it makes it all the more beautiful). The cut scenes themselves are not all that great and subpar at best with most of them being there for confrontations/continuing the story line rather than lore. There is some gore and body horror, but not to the extent that is unbearable on the eyes if you are focused more on combat than enemy design. Finally, going into level design; the areas are phenomenally done. At first the areas don't change too much in terms of design (to let players get familiar with it), however as you progress there will be more mob types and variations in layout or level structures to keep the player engaged.

Music / OST's
The music for each area is done well enough to add ambiance. It is not at all distracting and does a good job setting up the atmosphere or conditions of the game. However, this does make the music very forgettable and not too notable.

Story / Lore - Slight Spoiler Warning
The story follows Wolf, a shinobi on the quest to rescue and bring back the Divine Heir from Genichiro who is introduced as the main antagonist. There is a ton of lore and connections to the game as you explore the world of Sekiro, however the best part has to be the NPC's. The NPC's you encounter are made to be notable, especially once you have hit the 'Dragonrot' stage of the game. Dragonrot is a disease that will begin to affect NPC's upon enough deaths, making the game more difficult and stopping all questlines with that NPC until you can cure it. The disease itself is connected our player's powers and his mechanic of resurrection via the Dragon's Blood. The concept is well implemented and unique, adding an extra layer of difficulty while not coming completely from left field for the sake of it.

Difficulty
Speaking of difficulty, you can only make the game harder. There is no mode to make the game any easier. As you play, you'll begin to become more familiar with the controls and mechanics of the game, making the fights a bit easier. If you find yourself struggling, there are guides online on how to have a /slightly/ easier time beating bosses. The game is meant to be sweaty and difficult, but that's part of the enjoyment especially after being able to give yourself that pat on the back after taking out a particularly tough boss. /It took me 3 hours for one particular boss myself and a ton of runs, but I managed to do it eventually/. On top of that, once you reach the Ashina Castle area, you will have the alternative choices of running through side quests or exploring areas for upgrades to your stats/items if you're facing a tough foe you can't quite defeat just yet.

Replayability
Personally, I would not replay it simply because I can't see myself wanting to go through the same rigorous gameplay, but on a more difficult scale. However, for those that enjoy that kind of thing it might be a worthwhile game to note! There is also an option to redo large boss fights for fun in Wolf's 'memories' after defeating the first major boss.

Negatives
The game isn't perfect, however the pros heavily outweigh the cons. There are a few grievances I have with the game though such as the sometimes hard to navigate areas (there are spots and NPCs that are essential that can be easily missable). The lack of customization is another point that should be touched upon. While yes, there are options to customize your shinobi prosthetic - the rest of your abilities and builds can be quite limited. The game glitches every so often, making the bodies ragdoll. And finally, the port can be rather atrocious to play around and adjust your keybind settings to at first (making it extra difficult to get used to the controls).

Is It Worth It For The Price?
Short answer: Yes - But only if you can commit time into learning the controls to make the game enjoyable
Long answer: It's worth it for the price for the most part. The quality of the art and the soundtracks alone are very aesthetically pleasing, though the lore can be a bit wishy washy. There are things left to be desired, but the game excels at many things including satisfying combat that can definitely make up for its downsides.

I honestly cannot recommend this game enough. The reviews weren't lying and it definitely deserves all of the hype and praise it gets for being an absolute masterpiece in every aspect. I was hesitant on getting the game at first (even with all of the top tier reviews it's received) and I did not regret a single thing.

Graphics
Personally, I love the graphics as it's very stylized. Among a bunch of other games, the unique art style of Hades can be easily recognized. All of the details are gorgeous too! All of the photo previews are an accurate representation of what you'll be receiving as you try and escape from the clutches of the Underworld.

Music / OST's
The music for each area changes and despite going for multiple runs and having to replay the game over and over again; the music itself never feels nor sounds repetitive. As the fates would have it, the most beautiful music comes from the muse and the musician.

Story / Lore
The story follows Zagreus, son of Hades as he tries to escape the Underworld. The concept is fairly simple and easy to understand, but the best part is as you play and progress through the game, you begin to learn more about the motivations and Zagreus' backstory as well as the stories of other notable characters scattered throughout the House of Hades. As of the time of this review, I've only completed one successful run, so I haven't completed the main story yet, however I'm definitely looking forward to grinding this game for many more hours! Despite constantly dying over and over, the game makes it feel like each run is worth it since upon death, more content is unlocked.

Difficulty
Speaking of difficulty, there is something for everyone. As you play, you'll naturally get better and more accustomed to the game, however due to the RNG in place each run will turn out differently. If you find yourself struggling and want to finish the game for story's sake, there is a button called "god mode" that you can enable to help your runs! There are also additional difficulty settings for those who want an extra bit of challenge added.

Replayability
I think this one speaks for itself. One of the core mechanics of the game is being able to replay it multiple times in order to further progress the story. Even with this in mind, it's fun enough to pass the time quickly without the player noticing!

Negatives
Little to none! I have yet to experience any bugs in game and the experience so far has been a wonderful journey. The devs could have stopped paying attention to the game by now, but they're constantly patching small bugs in order to streamline the experience for players!

Is It Worth It For The Price?
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: It's more than worth it for the price. The quality of the art and the soundtracks alone are very aesthetically pleasing. There are multiple mechanics that with time, unlock which gives the game more content for the player to experience and play through! This can range from aspect (weapon) upgrades to a dating simulator with lesser known characters from Greek Mythology! It's also highly inclusive (so yes, you can romance both a female and a male character at once; but also a few monsters?)
