Alpherior has a gem created here! What starts as a.... tower defense/kinda bullet-heaven has such surprising depth and complexity, it's well worth the slightly higher price of admission.

The music is wonderful, even if you turn off the ambient effects which sync with the music -- the multiple levels of research and customization are intense... I thought Brotato had a variety of play-styles represented until I played Genome Guardian.

There's just enough hints at a story to tease you along into the higher difficulties, but even without that, the fact there's three very distinct game modes -- five current total game modes -- and so many different turret/weapon/perk combinations...

Five game modes -- 70 weapons -- 46 current turrets (not counting the upcoming modified turrets) -- 92 current perks (at least 96 planned): some rough combinations imply [35 4-letter weapons; 4 weapons on many turrets; four perks of 92; 46 turrets] 3.3M perk combinations x 52k weapon loadout combinations x 46 turrets ~= 7.8 trillion loadout possibilities

List of positive things with this expansion: there's some interesting writing, PDX is trying to patch it.

The rest is really negative. It's overpriced, doesn't add any new concepts -- just post-mid-year archeology sites, and was very clearly rushed out the door, and now is being slammed with patches that shouldn't even pass a basic smoke testing pass.

If you're not just over-the-moons for more "first party" Stellaris content, hold off on buying this until you've gotten your fill of all other DLC, and wait to see if they've managed to patch it back to functionality.
