It had a rocky start, but now the first wave of leaders are out.

I got this one for free with Anthology (owning all previous DLC) so I think that's a super cool move from the devs, rewarding long-time fans. I don't know if it makes any business sense because I would've paid 20€ for this easy!

At the time of writing only the Great Negotiators Pack is out (+ Julius Caesar) so we only have 3 leaders so far. They're already breathing new life to the game though, as I've really enjoyed getting into Kongo and America, two civs I hadn't really played that much before. I'm not personally that interested in Sultan Saladin, but it's still a cool leader ability too!

If you're a long-time player you probably already have the DLC but if you don't, I can definitely recommend it. You'll get drip-fed new leaders over some period, giving good reason to come back to the game every now and then.

Terrible launch, but it's fixed and the DLC itself is good and well priced (18 leaders for 20€!)

Early Access Review
WIth about 30 hours under my belt I can highly recommend the game already in it's first Early Access incarnation.

If you like Heroes of Might and Magic, you will most likely love this game.

I won't go too deep into balancing and such at this stage as the game is bound to evolve from where it's at right now, but that is definitely a positive with some Early Access games. The developers are actively seeking out feedback on their Discord as well as have implemented a great bug reporting tool in-game. Lavapotion themselves are an untested new developer, but Coffee Stain Publishing has a great pedigree with Early Access.

At this stage the game features two interesting story campaigns that get quite challenging down the line, as well as a bunch of skirmish maps. The skirmish maps don't offer as much variety as I'd like, but that is remedied right away by the presence of the map editor (with the same functionality the devs use) and a built-in map/mod browser, which allows you to just grab a community map in moments. So far already the community has created a lot of skirmish maps and the numbers and quality are just going to be going up.

For now, I would recommend the game to any fans of the genre or if you think you might like a game like this!

So let's break down the facts we know:

Dee is a squirrel, lives in a tree and collects nuts for the winter.

From this, we can naturally extrapolate quite a few things. Among everything else, we can easily determine Dee has led a life of crime. The exact nature of Dee's criminal past is shrouded in mystery, but it should not be dismissed as a possibility that Dee has taken a life.

Due to Dee's connections to the criminal underground, it can further be noted that Dee owns a powerful gaming PC. The backstory we know about paints a picture that further informs us that Dee actually only plays The Sims. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it must be taken into account when building the full and deep lore of Dee.

Now I know there are still plenty of obvious conclusions to be made about Dee, but let us take a moment to discuss the nuts. Where do they come from and where do they go? By their very nature, nuts are unknown. Did you know, that science is actually unable to explain why the nuts do what they do? It is quite true, nobody knows why.

Moving back to Dee it would not do to forget about politics. If Dee were to be asked whether pineapple belongs on pizza, the facts clearly guide us into the right answer. I wish to stay objective on this exploration of lore, but I must say that I deeply disagree with Dee's opinion.

When we put all of this together, we can now truly see what Dee's Nuts... Hold on a second... "Dee's Nuts"... ♥♥♥♥.

Very cool... & awesome!

My elevator pitch for this is: Outer Worlds is inspired by Fallout 3 and NV in the same way as Encased is inspired by Fallout 1 and 2.

Cool atmosphere, great mechanics, tons of exploration and areas. Replayability seems to be quite high as you can have one of five quite different backgrounds (although some seem to be more influential than others, eg. orange and black wing), plus there's a ton of ways to go about different encounters.

It's freaking Final Fantasy V. If you've played the other versions you'll like this one.

-It has a sort of autosave-function I'm not willing to trust entirely yet, but then again it seems to be very good. Seems to save after entering new area and after winning a battle.

-New sprites look weird at first compared to the classic sprites, but you get used to them pretty quick. Besides, they emote very much in the same way as the classics. (Weird to see King Tycoon's head!)

-Documentation is very extensive if you come in as a new player.

-I've seen complaints about running in 30fps instead of 60fps and honestly I have no idea what the problem is. I get it in a modern action game, but this is a SNES era JRPG. You want your party to chop at air smoothly? Anyhow, I'm sure some wizard will unlock it.

-Some people are having graphical issues like tearing, but I haven't seen any, so YMMV.

-Music is the classic old stuff, no weird new remixes.

Overall I can recommend this especially to fans of the old games and other versions of FFV (you have the handheld goodies in this one). I can also recommend this to people who enjoy classic JRPGs. You can read more extensively about the actual game online, but basically it's a very "standard" FInal Fantasy: Group of heroes destined to save the world with the help of the Crystals. Considerably more lighthearted and humoristic than FFIV or FFVI. The Job system is awesome.

PS. If you're new to the game don't check the achievements, since they spoil several plot points straight out!
