the game has a number of issues right from the get-go. it is an interesting experience, don't get me wrong, but in this current iteration, there are a couple of things that simply don't work.

let's go out the first one. the sheer amount of lag that is in this game is absolutely insane. moving from area to area has constant stutters--more if it is a larger place, like moving from one of the isolated shops back into the open atrium. the game is unplayable with raytracing on, rtx 3080 being shunted down all the way to 15-20 fps. the optimization is extremely poor. even without raytracing it stutters and lags constantly.

the enemies in general are a real nuisance to deal with at times. i don't mean the actual animatronic characters, either, i mean the janitors and security bots scattered throughout. they're the real enemies. being caught by one will instantly spawn one of the animatronics behind you. if there were more than one in the area already, both appear. you don't have enough sprint to outrun them, it only lasts for a few seconds and they run at the same speed as you. it's almost guaranteed death.

the ai of the animatronics isn't too bright either. they can lose you by a quick loop around a potted plant. chica teleports all over the place, usually at will. there have been times they warped directly behind me and i was killed on the spot. the animatronics all ignore obstacles and simply clip through them all, making putting objects between you and them mostly useless as well. later areas in the game make hiding or distracting them impossible. it's a real pain.

for how open the areas are in this game, it is surprisingly linear. you are constantly told where to go, what to do next, and you only have a single path forward. don't get me wrong, there are goodies along the way here and there, but it seems like a lot of wasted potential. most doors are locked until you obtain a high enough security clearance level.

save points can be very sparse at times as well. with everything being an instant kill when you get caught (and you will be caught A LOT), this is asinine. you can't skip cutscenes. some areas are long treks back to where you died. it becomes rather obnoxious after a while.

all in all, the difficulty of the game boils down to limiting the player's options massively, rather than truly having smart enemies. they'll check hiding places where they last saw you, but other than that, they don't really do too much. they're simply difficult because you're in wide open space, or tight corridors with nowhere to hide or really lose them.

the game doesn't really let up either. multiple times i've spent wandering for 30 minutes because it gives no clues on what to do or where to go next. it constantly leaves you in the dark on where to go, only giving you a vague objective to complete. better yet, i even encountered a softlock! i was lucky that an out of bounds exploit was able to get me to where i needed to go, as the game failed to teleport me to the correct location.

animatronics become even less of a threat once you get the Faz Cam or the Fazer Blaster. why even have them anymore? Fazer Blaster can permanently stun them. Faz Cam is an area nuke.

multiple upgrades are found throughout the game that have NO DESCRIPTION on what they do. what the ♥♥♥♥ does the Hoodie do? what are these sodas you keep getting? what part of Freddy is the Freddy Upgrade augmenting? all of these could be avoided with a short, simple description. but they have nothing. i'm collecting them but don't know what they're actually doing.

finally, once you reach 6 am, you get the choice of continuing on or leaving the Pizzaplex immediately. except when you keep going you can't save. that's right baby, to see the rest of the game, you're now on Hardcore Mode! any progress you make will be lost forever the moment you die. what fantastic game design.

honestly, it isn't worth it. YouTube the endings. you can lose 3 hours of progress to Chica randomly teleporting atop you. without being able to save or any checkpoints it's just more of a slough than the game already was. save your money and watch a walkthrough, the game isn't worth buying. there are far too many bugs, poor design choices, and bad gameplay elements to warrant any time invested.

Gameplay is radically biased towards gunslinging for a survival horror, non-functioning stealth mechanics for 3/4 of the game, rampantly varying difficulty and buggy nature of the game hold it back. Later chapters are mostly a slough to get through due to armor the enemies wear, making dealing with them exhausting. Also the letterboxing, dear god. Play this only if you're interested in the story, not for the game on its own merits.
