I originally had a full written review of this game that goes into detail of why it is so great however I think it is better if you just go in blind and play it. Certain scenes even made me cry and I am really not an emotional person. FFX has some of the best storytelling in any video game I have played. It is a prime example in my opinion of why video games are art and not some short term entertainment. The game is by no means perfect and you can only expect so much out of a 2013 remaster
of a 2002 game but I think it has a lot of charm because it came from a different era. In short just play the game I really cannot recommend it enough.

Sword with sauce is a action sandbox game in which the player can chose from a small arsenal of weapons and tools to dispatch their enemies. The game's graphics are extremely simplistic and polygonal. While the look of the game is not that appealing it is extremely easy to run the game at 60-144 fps. The gameplay is pretty fast pace and is fun for a little while but gets stale after you explore all the weapons and maps. The game has been in alpha for over 4 years and appears to be abandoned by the developers. Overall at $2.99 you cannot complain too much for what you are getting and I would recommend if you have a spare weekend and are bored.

If you are looking for a game that doesn't just have stealth in it but encapsulates stealth, you are going to like Thief.

Minor story and gameplay spoilers below:

Gameplay: In Thief you play as Garrett, the Master Thief. You will be crouching, sneaking, climbing, and sliding past any and all people that might spot you. The game is presented as a semi linear world with lots of nooks and crannies to explore and loot. The core gameplay loop is Garrett breaking into places he doesn't belong, stealing everything in sight, and getting more powerful via gear upgrades as he goes through the story. While the levels are linear there is a sort of "hub" town where you go back to after most levels. There is plenty to explore and it's piratically impossible to see and steal everything on your first run. If you are spotted your best option is to run away until the npc's stop looking for you. However combat is an option. Speaking of combat it is by far the weakest part of the game by design. The only melee weapon Garrett has access to is a small claw and your enemies are much more powerful than you when to comes to melee combat. This was not because the devs were lazy or ran out of time. The combat is purposefully weak to shoehorn the player into utilizing the game's stealth mechanics. Because of that you should try to either sneak past enemies or take them out with your longbow. Even though this game is coming up on 9 years old the AI is smart. They are not unfair but on higher difficulties people will be acutely aware of their surroundings and it is much harder to sneak past them. Overall I found the gameplay to be a nice change of pace to what I usually play as many games with stealth in them also utilize a heavy combat emphasis rather than being pure stealth.

Story: The story in Thief is a bit odd. It follows Garrett and the other protagonist Erin. After Waking up from a magical ritual that (kinda) killed his partner Erin, Garrett finds that his city has declined into an impoverished gloomy hellscape. This city is under the tyrannical rule of the Baron and the people are suffering. There is a plague all throughout the city, just about the whole city is dark, gloomy, and impoverished. Most people are homeless suffering from the plague as they beg for food on every corner. The elite spend their time in pleasure houses and have no empathy for the poor. Without getting into spoiler territory Erin is integral to the storyline with Garrett hearing and seeing her in his head throughout the game and you as the player traverse many hallucinations climaxing with Garrett and Erin finally coming to terms with each other. The story is fairly open to interpretation including the ending with a lot of conflict and disdain thrown Garrett's way via Erin. Overall I enjoyed it but it can be pretty hard to follow at times and it is not for everyone.

Graphics: For 2014 the game looks very good. The game still holds up quite well to this day however the human models are a bit dated. Especially with the parts of the game that show nudity you can tell that the textures, polygon count, and resolution are not up to date. That is a pretty minor gripe though and overall the game still looks great. You should not need a beast of a rig to run this game a modest pc will be just fine.

Conclusion: If you are looking for a pure stealth game with many well realized mechanics and good map design I think Thief is worth looking into. 100% would buy on sale but even at $19.99 i still think it is well worth it.

Dishonored 2 is easily one of the best single player games I have ever played, let me tell you why.

Minor gameplay spoilers below

I will be mostly ignoring the story as I think it is the weakest part of the series as a whole. This game encapsulates player choice very very well. Each mission you are tasked with an objective: sneaking into a place, stealing something, killing someone, etc... There is not one correct way to go about an objective. If you are tasked with an assassination you could go about killing your target in the most brutal way possible or you could sneak your way past all the enemies and incapacitate your target without harming them. You even have the option of playing the game without and powers if you want to. Speaking of powers, there are a lot. From short range teleportation to summoning a lethal whirlwind from your hand the player is given all the tools necessary to play the game how they like. Through the weapons, traps, and powers you obtain throughout the game, you feel empowered, badass, and menace to your foes. The combat in the game is very snappy and each kill feels REALLY good with the melee kill animations being some of the best I've ever seen. You are even given the option to enable aimbot for the pistol and crossbow and it fells really nice if you don't want to aim, The weakest part of combat in my opinion is sword fighting as if there is a horde of guards you are basically forced to run away or use an ability to kill them as it is very difficult to sword fight more than one at a time.

The game is not balanced at all. It is heavily skewed in your favor as you are much more powerful than anything around you for 95% of the game. This was very intentional as the world, enemies, and story is build around this fact. The level design is excellent in my opinion with most maps being very well made but they do feel a bit similar to each other at times. The levels are built with each type of player in mind as you are able to sneak past every single enemy in the game even with no powers. You can crawl through the shadows undetected or kill everyone in your path, the levels are made so you can play your way. You can go through each level as fast or as slow as you want. This level design is not just limited to this game. Arkane Studios uses this design philosophy in many of their games such as 2017's PREY. Dishonored 2 has an INSANE amount of replay value to it and it never gets repetitive or boring. You can go full lethal, full stealth, nonlethal, mix of all 3, powerless, etc... Each run feels good and you will likely notice details in the map design you missed your first time through. Dishonored 2 is a well deserved upgrade to Dishonored 1 and much better than Dishonored Death of the Outsider in my opinion. If you don't care about the story you don't have to play the first game even though I do recommend it.

In conclusion Dishonored 2 empowers the player's freedom of choice through level design and the tools/powers you acquire through your run. The game makes you feel like a badass and never has it's slow or boring moments. I highly recommend this game even for the full sale price of $29.99

The Devil May Cry HD Collection is the best way to experience the first three games in one convenient package. Don't be mistaken this collection is not a remake or remaster of the game's graphics or textures. Rather it simply allows for resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. Below is a review of each game in the series.

TLDR: I recommend playing 1 and 3 while skipping 2.
Spolier warning: mild to mid spoilers below for DMC 1 and 3.

DMC1: This game is a classic, it was very good for its time but it has not aged quite that well. From issues like building up devil trigger incredibly fast at times, spamming air raid on specific boss fights, or a poor camera system at times the game has its flaws. With these and many more flaws in mind I think the core gameplay loop of the game is still fun and there is enough build variety for you to not get bored throughout your playthrough. I was not exited to get through the game but I was not bored either. I kinda just wanted to take it at face value and get through it to play DMC3. The level design is fairly in depth and well made, however I got lost multiple times in certain levels and it took me a while to realize what I was supposed to do. Overall the world is well crafted and fun to explore. The story of the game isn't the best but it was by no means bad. It follows the demon slayer Dante through his journey to defeat the demon emperor Mundus. The game's plot is really only is explored in the beginning and end of the game with the middle just being Dante going from level to level, trying to get closer to the gate of hell. Dante doesn't take himself too seriously but the story is able to get serious when it wants to. With all that being said, I think the game is worth playing once and moving on. It sets up the backstory of Dante's father and introduces you to Trish (who shows up in later games).

DMC2: This game is a total mess. The story is next to non existent, the combat is somehow a downgrade from the first game, the upgrade system is also worse as instead of unlocking new moves through red orbs now you just make your weapons do more damage. I could go on and on but I highly recommend you skip this game and move on to DMC3. You are not missing any important plot points, gameplay mechanics, or world building. Please do not play this game.

DMC3: This is where the series gets enjoyable for a lot of people including myself. The game mechanics are upgraded in every way compared to the first two games. The classic upgrade system is back better than ever. There are now more weapons available for Dante to add to his collection. You can now equip two devil arms and two firearms at the same time and instantly swap between them. This allows for very long and unique combos and opens up many different playstyles that aren't just hit enemy, dodge, repeat. Dante now has access of a variety of styles. These styles are abilities Dante uses that heavily effect your playstyle. For example you can use the swordmaster style which gives Dante's sword type weapons more moves or you can use the trickster style which allows Dante to dash and avoid enemy attacks. I could go on and on about all the new features but just know the combat is fluid, well balanced, and most importantly fun. DMC3 has arguably the best story in the series. The story follows Dante through a journey to stop the evil Arkham from opening a gate to hell and absorbing the power of Dante's father Sparda. This is the game which introduces Dante's twin brother Virgil. The two have a sibling rivalry and fight each other throughout the game because of their differences. Dante and Virgil were born from a demonic father and a human mother. While already being very powerful, Virgil embraces his demonic side and yearns for the power of his father Sparda. In contrast Dante initially rejects his demonic side and embraces his humanity. The game's story has pretty interesting subtext and meaning behind how it effects the gameplay mechanics. One example is how Dante initially rejects his demonic side. This is symbolized in game by having the ability to use devil trigger locked until a specific story moment. It is only after Dante leans more into his demonic side does he become able to use devil trigger which is a core part of the DMC series. When it comes to level design this game vastly expands on the castle setting from DMC1. Dante will traverse much more and you wont be stuck in the same place for too long. One downside of the expansive level design is that it can be confusing at times where to go as there are many interconnected rooms. That's just a small gripe though and the levels just keep getting cooler the more you play. The game also has a lot of replay value by allowing the player to play as Virgil and being able to play on harder and harder difficulties each playthrough. Overall this game is excellent and truly marks why the DMC series is so beloved to this day.

Notable Bugs: This could just be unique to my hardware however when I launched DMC2 there would be about a 50/50 chance that the game would instantly freeze and be unplayable. However this bug might as well be a feature as there is no good reason to play the game anyways.

Among Waifus is truly the magnum opus of Romantic Room. From the mind-bending story to the extremely advanced graphics and gameplay systems this game had me going through a roller coaster of emotions during my first playthrough. The character design is very unique with each crew member having their own short but engaging story to tell. The game really makes you care about each character which makes the story that much more engaging. I have nothing but praise for this game and I look forward to future projects this studio produces.
