We really need more games like this. Love the boating/fishing mixed with the H. P. Lovecraft and Call of Cthulhu vibe. Probably could have completed the game quicker but I wanted to grab every achievement :)

Try not to ♥♥♥♥♥ out when things get tough -_-. Nah just kidding :D. The first full dlc for the Darkest Dungeon, the "Crimson Court", is almost here and I'd like to give a quick review of the game in it's current state. So here it is xD.

The hardest part for me about this game is letting the people I don't want to lose, die. I'm in a constant battle with my greed while I fight through the dungeons of this game. When I find one of my named characters gets killed simply because I just didn't accept I could retreat now so they can live, I start to regret and slightly feel guilt. Eventually I just restart once I lose even just like 2 named characters because it triggers me seeing them in the graveyard just thinking about what could of been or if I had just retreated.

But that's my self enjoyment with it. I'm not trying just to make it towards the end of the game, I'm trying to beat the game keeping alive the ones I've named.

Us gamers who never give in and love the ability to just try and try and try love that/this sort of thing. People that don't go into every engagment expecting the worst are doomed to crying about how hard the game may be for them. You're warned from the begining about that. The thing is, you will eventually win, it's a game where you always will eventually win.
You just need to be willing to accept that ALOT of the time you will lose (towards the late game). If the dice aren't rolling in you're favour you should feel happy and suprised by yur luck for that round. It's hard to accept/expect bad outcomes when you think you're playing smart. That's the hardest part about this game that I don't think some people get that give the game a bad rating. Because if you did you could never give the game a bad rating.

I actually get more annoyed in X-COM/X-COM 2 when my people die rather than this game because darkest dungeon has an instant retreat button and a "death's door" mechanic which improves the experience significantly. Un-like in xcom where people have a chance of instantaniously dying to a crit from the enemy or soemthing.

Either way the game holds A LOT to be adored for with it's art style, atmosphere, personality, narrator and immersion. I'm really really looking forward to the "Crimson Court" and want redhookgames to keep up the good work and keep pushing to find more original things to explore and continue adding to the game in the future. Can not wait! :D Overall the game is pretty awesome for however long you play it for.

(This review is from my opinion and has doesn't cover any issues the game others claim it may have.)

Well worth the money and time invested.

It's a game that keeps you coming back so long as you're not a casual player. Has the hardest campaign I've ever played by far and I'm still playing on beginner without finishing or starting a new campaign for the whole time I've actually spent playing the game (over 190hrs).

But it's been time well spent. The style of the artwork, the units, the models, the abilities and depth just work sooo well together. I ACTUALLY feel like I'm in control of a kingdom while I'm playing. My choices have meaning and consequence/benefits. Although thats obvious when you play some games. I feel if I had to choose between games like ROME total war, Age of wonders series, Civ 5 etc, all those turn-based conquest stratagy games, I'd rather uninstall the rest than stop playing this one. But thats just my opinion.

The game in full could be taken furthur if the developers spent the same amount of time they spent making the game to make it go ever furthur. More intereactions, more interesting situations your kingdom might face, THINGS like shards clashing in the middle of conquering one shard then 2 more enemy kingdoms rock up that were originally clashing on that shard to begin with now I have to conquer both with more mayhem to add to the mix. The forging of alliances out of shards with other demi-gods, THE LIST is endless.

For what it is though it's amazing and a true inspiration towards what fantasy games should be/feel/look like. Not to mention the idea of shards and it's turn based stratagy while conquering territories. Well done! ^_^

p.s to myself: This review after reading does not serve the game justice, I feel its more than what I described by far but I couldn't find the words :(
