meh...

Remember how DS2 was ruined by constant jump ganks? This is that, but for a whole game. There's little variation in viable builds, since the devs have nerfed everything that was fun. The enemies are the same in every zone, with just a reskin of the same attacks.

The worst part, and I mean the absolute worst part, that they took from DS2 was the waste of everyone's time run backs. The dumb lantern mechanics means that you will never have a bonfire next to a boss. Its minutes of wasted runbacks to make the game seem "harder" and "longer" than it is.

This game does not respect your time or skill. 2/10 IMO.

I've been looking for a PvE game for a while. The PvP or PvEvP games are great, but I've been looking for something to decompress with and bring back that 5Man Dungeon running feeling I had with WoW, without the time and money sink. This is it.

--Gameplay--
Gameplay is a fairly simple third person extraction shooter, with a twist. This is from the Magika team, so they've added a mechanic for calling in support weapons, airstrikes or other helpful "stratagems". The way you call them in is through a button sequence that is very similar to casting spells in Magika. With that unique gameplay, you are thrown against either bugs or bots with 3 other teammates. There isn't a huge variation in "mission" as they seem to be variants of each other on bot and bug side, but the minute to minute gameplay is different. Bots are more defensive, while bugs are horde like. That means that you get a more tactical gameplay with bots, while bugs tend to be a frantic scramble. Both are very fun to play against.

--Graphics and Engine--
Graphics are fine; nothing amazing. Higher level difficulty will stress your CPU quite a bit, but I've run this just fine no a tigerlake mobile CPU with a 2060 mobile GPU. Sure, I prefer it on the 7800X3D/4090, but it runs fine on a variety of systems. The are plenty of bugs though: from DOTs not working, to crashes, to quests unable to complete... there are a lot of bugs outside of the ones you fight. The team seems to be working on them, but it is starting to grow old especially with warbonds (paid currency mini battlepasses) being regularly released.

Overall, I would recommend this game. I think that the glitches/bugs in game are starting to not have an excuse for why they are not fixed, but the gameplay still remains fun. I think AH has another month or two to iron out the gamebreaking bugs, or I may need to update this review. 8/10... whatever that means.

Buggy mess. Crashes often still on a 12700k/3080FE. They've put little effort into fixing how this games runs. It has been several months since this was released. I could understand if they hadn't done any balance changes, but we are talking about them not even doing basic optimization patches.

In addition to the bugs, the changes in this game such as specialist class, no voice chat, and weapon changes has removed a lot of what made Battlefield special and just not another FPS. This game is them chasing the GAAS model without putting in the work or designing the game around that.

Overall, this is extremely disappointing for a BF entry. I've been chasing the BF:BC2 high that I remember, but this neither fits the BF1 polish or the fun BF:BC2 quirkiness. This is just plain... a bad game. I regret my purchase.

Worse than Doom 2016. The armor/health/ammo loop is fun, but forces you to just spam/compound them when cooldowns are up. Also, the levels are way too long and don't allow you to quit out mid mission without losing your progress.
