I have never hated a game more then I hate this game.
Yet its the only game that can give the experience that it provides.
Do yourself a favour and do not get hooked to it, its is a miserable game to enjoy.

Crystal Clash (terrible name), is a relaunch of the game Rise of Legions. (much better name.)
Of which I greatly enjoyed back in the day.

Sadly the game sorta died off, and the devs have decided to relaunch it now under the new name etc.
Which, does make me very happy that I can enjoy those good ol days of the game once more.
Though besides the name change, a few more cosmetics, them removing my previously free dwagon avatar and making it paid, its basically the exact same game.
As such, it does still inherit all the good, and the bad of the previous game.

Namely, content feels a bit lacking.
An argument could be made that it can be a bit grindy even, but all things considered the grind is minor if anything and new cards can be unlocked quite quickly, its more the leveling of said cards that can be slow, but even then its... Ehh...

Regardless, it is a very enjoyable game with good systems and mechanics.
Lots of synergies, such as my favourite Deep Frozen slimes and such.
The system of being able to create decks that works with other decks, so you can duo with a friend having you cover each others weaknesses is lovely.

I just hope the devs continue to build off and add some more content in the form of perhaps additional summons, spawners, and spells, maybe even new legions, or entirely new things etc, then it really would be a great game.
Is my personal opinion that is the reason the last game struggled, lack of new updates/content so hopefully it doesn't fall down that road again.

So after giving this game a good few hours, I feel like I can give this game a proper review.

XCOM: Chimera Squad is a fun game.
It has its problems, but these problems are mainly inherited problems from the previous XCOM game.
Aka, some crashes, visual issues, weird AI, etc.
Though, for me at least, these are uncommon enough that I can easily overlook them.
This may not be the case for others though.

The new Breaching phase is quite a fun take, and does give the feeling that your fighting an urban war.
Each Breach point will also give bonuses or negatives that make you consider where you want to enter from.
Though I will admit some of them feel a bit limiting at times.

The turn order, and turn order manipulation abilities feel fresh and enjoyable to use.
Giving a nice change of pace for the combat, and allowing for some more in depth plans.

The characters are...
Eh... So far, they seem rather static.
Maybe I am wrong and there is some character development later on, but so far, a bit over 1/3 through the game, there seems to be no change at all, and this sadly makes the characters feel rather boring.
Though in saying that, I am happy with the idea of having set characters for a change, allowing you to get right into it as it were.
As even though I loved the character creation in the older XCOM games, it could sometimes take up extreme amounts of time, though maybe that's just me.

The scope of the game is also much smaller, its much more focused you could even say.
In the game you are focusing on only a single city, and its districts.
Again, this is a much different take to normal XCOM, and for how everything else has been set up, it also works quite well.
The game seems to be designed to be a much more 'concentrated' experience.
They seemingly wanted to focus on a single part of this world they created and expand upon it.
Which, having a much smaller scope has helped that.

Overall, for what the game tries to do, it succeeds at.... Mostly.
It does have a few problems, mainly with the characters in my opinion, but besides that...
Its a very enjoyable spin off game.
The intent, from what I can gather, was to shine a light on what it would be like in a city with Aliens, Hybrids and Humans all together.
To show how factions would form, and how people react to them.
There are short little radio broadcasts inbetween missions that help paint that picture, ranging from advertisements for products aimed at trying to provide for the new inhabitants, to conspiracy theorists talking about how the new military squad in town is out to get them.
There are also little bits of text after each mission, giving background on the district you were just in.
And while, everything by itself isn't much, all together it does paint an interesting picture, and gets you thinking about this interesting idea.
At least, that is how I saw it.

Regarding the reviews, I feel that most people don't understand that this game isn't meant to be a true XCOM successor, its meant to try and do something different, its taking a risk to try something else. Bring some fresh ideas and mechanics to the series.
Sure it falls flat in some areas, but as long as your accepting of what this game is, they really are not much of a bother at all, and your perfectly able to enjoy the experience.

Give this game a try is my recommendation.
Just make sure your not expecting to get what you got from the older XCOM games and you will most likely not regret it.
