Something about a 1000-year-old war, descendants and stature? There’s also a top-secret envelope that mustn’t be opened at any cost! Even if there’s a werewolf on the loose hungry and will stop at nothing to stalk and maul you for that info~



:) PEEK-A-BOOG~
Lucky for us, Leenie is actually a big old softie who gives you an “incoming” via sound for the most part on where he is skulking from. In fact, the gameplay is divided into two portions; first the exploration / walking-sim part which give out more exposition followed by a cutscene to situate where the next encounter will take place.

Then secondly, the minigames which are little hold your position and fend off Leenie until a 6-ish minutes timer runs out! But there’s a special BBQ sauce for each one to add a little flavor… Whether it’s pressing against one of the windows whenever they creak open and persisting until he backs off before releasing. Or anticipating a QTE prompt, as your eyes dart between the door and window in a smothering train cabin!

Can be settled in less than an hour if you’re a gangsta shepherd or clairvoyant! Even if you keep dying, you can always skip a level! But otherwise since there are two endings, could last two hours max for $5 bucks. As it's the straightforward “choose your side” and then repeat the game for the other. That said, I’m convinced those secret numbers in the levels where you’re being hunted are hinting towards something extra. Either that or I too have become delusional~


TIPS:
1) Play with speakers or headphones!
2) 1st Stage: there’s a clear tell when Leenie goes upstairs or back downstairs. THUD is all~
3) 2nd Stage: keep to the light.
4) 3rd Stage: For me, I stayed by the bend of the corridor and waited. That way, I don’t get cornered!


:) WOLF IT ALL DOWN!
The first few deaths will be maddening because it all seems so random until you actually begin to stop dead in your tracks- that’s one less distraction and focus your hearing. Then you’ll see the atmosphere is really dreadful for all the right reasons! Something heavy is constantly on the prowl and it’s getting closer only to back away to blindside you…

This is also where the various difficulty options have a stake on the matter. For instance, on “easy”; Leenie is a sneaky S.O.B. and uses his less frequent appearances and mobility by stalking you for longer… Then with each subsequent cranking up of the difficulty; there will be more back-and-forths as Leenie is seemingly unable to settle on a place to attack and calling for quicker reaction times!

The mascot; I’m not sure if it’s a reused asset but no matter! The beady eyes, multiple alternate “skins” give that uncertainty of whether it’s the same one. And the soundtrack, for a small production- I was very impressed! With them layering on that disconcerting sensation even well outside of the minigame portions surprisingly. They’re ideal for what I can only describe as conspiracy-theorists’ meetings and there’s a huge reveal during each one…

:) TEETHING ON THE DOWN LOW…?
The story is rather rudimentary but without the gore you’ve come to expect out of monster flicks! But it still got its moments of dread even though you know exactly what is out for your blood in human clothing. As such it has bits of Animal (2014) and Howl (2015) at least in terms of building trepidation but then it also practices restraint by being much more reserved with the monster’s violent tendencies, origins and purpose…


:) IT. CAME. FROM. SOME-WERE.
I could be totally off the mark because as I will go on to elaborate in the cons- I didn’t get everything it was going on about. But what I surmised so far is that sometimes we are caught up in things we don’t understand, or worse still ones we think we do, but really don’t… How we are all someone else’s pawns, playthings in a much longer, bigger agenda.

How someone will always have it out for you no matter what you do or where you go! So, if there’s no reconciliation what else can you do? For starters, you survive that abuse, get to the bottom of the beef then part ways! Or better still report their sorry butts to the relevant authorities… But if there’s really no way around it. You see it through and make your choice- what else can you do really~



:( JUST BOOG-IE!
The first two minigames worked- operated by the same rules; the noises are audible enough to pick up on and track exactly or at least gave room for error. However, by the third & final one, there was an intentional almost sadistic shift in how the big bad wolf snuck up on you! He suddenly becomes like a sheep, which is ironic because it should you the player in this case…

The more candid and suspenseful music to warn of his reemergence after being dazed not only confuses you but also irritates. Whereas in previous stages, the track kept to the background while maintaining its tenseness over which direction will he come from next~


:( NOT TOO BY-THE-BOOG…
I wasn’t all too keen on the story, which referred to organization names and parties I’ll never remember. Neither were their motivations, for that matter. While I’m ultimately thankful there is a plot and it’s not just one minigame after another- I kind of wished it could have been better at conveying things. Even by the end, I was still left in the dark and found myself between an incomprehensible rock and a hard-to-follow place~

Last Words?
A small but fearsome foray at shaking the way a horror game is executed. With rare encounters that ravage your senses! Even if its story doesn’t quite live up to anything… At least it didn’t cry wolf~

If you’re like, up for creature flicks and want an unusual series of minigames that require you to sharpen your senses… If you love shorter mysteries but still being able to trade places with the hunter such as in Foglight. Then heads up and buckle up~
