Binding of Isaac is a wierd game indeed. But a brilllant little wierd game with the personality of that person who lives down the street who seems slightly, uh, unhinged. A smooth blend of item combining, dungeon crawling, and nightmare fuel. If you are tempted by this game I would really recommend it if it is on sale at any point but it might be better for you to wait for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth that is coming out shortly.

The game has a very dedicated fan base. So dedicated in fact that a twitch steamer, called crumps2, has created the BOILeR. The Binding of Isaac Racing League with the letters switched around to make it sound better haha. If you are looking for a great streamer who you can watch and learn a little bit about the game I would suggest either CobaltStreak or PrincessDiana (both on twitch.tv). They are both part of larger 'communities' that have a lot of love for the game.

It was only about two years a go that I got a desktop to play games on. Maybe this is why, previous to this game, I had never really played a strategy title. Of course now I have access to a lot more but Civilisation V will always hold a special place in my heart. With easy to learn mechanics, a simple but elegent User Interface, and a lovely art direction it is the perfect game for new players to test the waters of the strategy genre. Much like chess the mechanics are easy to learn but take a good amount of time to master. Your knowledge of this can be tested by changing a range of settings like the difficulty (difficulty settings in a game that actually means something), terrain and if you are up for a challenge there are scenarios. The sheer amount of changes that can be made give Civilisation V tons of replay value with a new experience everytime.

The single player alone is worth the price but it also comes with a multiplayer, which while it had major issues in the past, has been polished in patches that came out with the Brave New World expansion. The multiplayer tests your knowledge of the games mechanics by casting you against other players that may have strategies of their own that challenge your previous notions of the game.

While I do highly recommend the game I should warn you to make sure your computer has enough processing power to handle the high demand of the game. The game has a lot of pieces to process and the requirements can really ramp up in the later stages of the game with you and the other civilisations having tons of units and cities that need a moment to process every turn. This can lead to long load times, interferance with other programs (a major one I experienced is songs stuttering on pandora radio), and in the worst case scenario, a unresponsive game. But if you do have a powerful enough processing unit then every minute you don't have this time sink of a game is a minute wasted.
