It was a frustrating moment when I found myself on an empty ship, cleared of enemies, and still could not finish my mission.

You see, the odd thingamabob my character had been contracted to steal (for a hefty sum) was behind a locked door. This locked door was unlocked by a keycard that, despite having searched the entire ship three times over, was nowhere to be found.

My character did not have a teleporter, neither with him or at home.

The situation seemed dire. I was about to give up.

Then... I had a crazy idea.

I left the ship I was in and tracked down another one. I slaughtered the crew and commandeered this second ship, painstakingly sailing it back to the place where the first was still spinning desperately, devoid of crew and life.

Then I started shooting at the ship containing my precious loot.

Piece by piece, I surgically cut the room containing the item I required off into space. Finally, it broke free, spinning into the void. I left the helm of my new ship, shot a window, and was flung into space. I recovered myself with my pod and chased down the single room containing the item.

I docked my pod to the room, went inside, and triumphantly recovered the item.

I might have gotten a good payout for that thing, whatever it was, but the real reward was the sheer pleasure of having ended up in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ situation and come up with a crazy way out of it.

That, truly, is the essence of Heat Signature - an emotional rollercoaster of failure-turned-fortune.

Get it.

Relies a lot on micromanagement. I personally couldn't get into and enjoy it because of that, and the fact that a lot of things feel very weirdly balanced, but I'm sure someone else would enjoy it.

It's the sort of game you should wait to buy.

It's gonna be a great game - once it's a little more finished. And I have faith in the developer (who happens to be one single person, that's doing EVERYTHING!)

7/10 for the present build since apparently I managed to play over 2 hours in this buggy barebones unfinished mess and still enjoy myself a lot

Squad is the only shooting game I've ever played where killing people is probably the most minimal and least rewarding part of the experience.

Squad is a game where you will either play with friends or make new ones; spend long, tense minutes staring at nothing until the bullets start flying; dive for cover into the ditch while the APC starts shooting at you and pray it thinks you're dead; spend bored hours chatting with squadmates while guarding an FOB, and so much more.

It is ridiculous how fun this is. Every kill you get does feel rewarding, but compared to the bigger picture, the sense of camaraderie and friendship you will feel for your squadmates... maybe I'm too immersed, but as of writing this I haven't played for all that long and I'm already hooked.

In technical terms, the game is pretty buggy and barebones in some spots- but that's to be expected of an Alpha. Juggling FPS and graphics is difficult, and even on the highest settings the animations can look very... weird. If you want a finished product, don't buy Squad (yet).

But if you want to get in early and feel that amazing sense of teamwork, I most highly recommend getting this.

This is an open-world third-person shooter (it even has cover mechanics- not that you should notice them...) that doesn't try to weigh you down with such amenities as "good plot" and "well-developed characters."

It's a game about blowing things up. It has about as much to do with guerilla warfare as the sun does with fire - in the loosest terms only.

That said, it's an incredibly fun game even if it might look ugly and play mediocrely compare to more modern shooters. Most certainly worth the buy due to decent replay value.

As such, I'm nominating the game for a "whoa dude" award because it is so uniquely good at getting money on what is essentially its lone unique selling point: the ability to shred anything and everything manmade. It is a game that feeds off our most basic human instinct - the will to blow things up just for the sake of watching it blow up.

Oh, and it also has a really subtle moral narrative about the nature of good and evil that's about as impressive as Spec Ops: The Line's much more obvious narrative... but that's for you to discover.

A great little time-waster. I installed this when bored (2 minute download time for quite a lot of content, nice!) and played in one sitting; coming back onto Steam today, I realized I had spent 3 hours on this game. In one go.

In short, you'll have fun.

It's a little quirky in places; some things could be better, especially the flow between menus and such. The music is unobtrusive but fitting, and the sounds, though royalty-free, work out. There's some balance issues in the fact that some levels present a horrific difficulty spike compared to others in the same stage (looking at you, LightShower), and the fact that most levels will be won by huge swarms of small, cheap, light ships rather than the big battleships the game wants to encourage.

The lack of large ship prevalence is simply cost-effectiveness. The amount of money you get in the course of a match is often not enough to justify building more than two or three large ships, especially since they tend to be in combat a lot less- they're far better as defenders than attacks for obvious reasons of speed, turn rate, etc. This does create a situation where small ships rule the day, but an even more jarring one where medium ships are the rarest type of ship- building anything but a huge battleship and a bunch of swarm fighters is basically redundant, except for specialist ships against a certain enemy type.

Overall, great game! But needs some minor balancing to be perfect.

My only real complaint with this game is the absolutely atrocious colonist AI that will, more often than anything else, be the undoing of your colonies.

From absolutely refusing to build heaters when they're dying to hypothermia, to totally forgetting how to escape the airlock, the colonists of Maia are atrociously, ridiculously, incredibly stupid.

But other than that, this is a great game. Recommend- but please lord, fix the AI, Simon.

Try to be creative with video game names, realise you're just making alternate reality versions of existing ones.

10/10 would Duty of Calls again.
