Nice cohesive style. Exceptional writing.

I just beat this, the writing really does elevate this to another level. It's got some levels to it, this has been like reading a good good book. I'd say even, this is a premiere example of how lovecraftian horror can be made convincingly. I have watched almost every lovecraftian horror movie and none really can quite convey it.

Early Access Review
With a good run taking nearly an hour, it's a bit much to ask of someone to do in one sitting. Add a save feature.

A good game with a high level Bitcrush aesthetic. All the gameplay aspects are really top notch aside from enemy AI. While enemies are smart enough to walk down staircases, they otherwise just go towards you, get stuck in water, and have really good aim (maybe the good aim is a "hard" mode thing). You eventually learn how to game it but it feels like a cheap solution. The story does pull you in, but the direction after Chapter One is extremely disappointing.

A good tactical romp while you play through each region. But there is no over-arching story or main quest, so the game just kinda spurts out to a slow and sad end in your hands, rather than an in-your-face powerful splashy ending.

While it's not bad I think the size of the map is too big to have 8+ hour runs and then you die and have to do it again... there isn't much incentive to do all the same crafting, same exploration, and same killing the second time around.

Also the gameplay was really simple, at some point the repetitive nature of killing thousands of pixel people got to me and I started to ask why I'm even playing. It was just meaningless and boring and why am I even so mean to everyone.

I'm playing on hard after deleting the game not being able to finish the first fight on the insane difficulty. I'm glad I gave it another shot, because it's actually a good tactics game. It feels very similar to a lot of these modern 3D tactics games like Wartales or King Arthur: Knight's tale. They are all nearly identical to be honest.

Expeditions: Rome, I seem to like more - I'm actually interested in the story, the voice acting is all perfectly appropriate and the writing is good. the tactics are great fun with tons of subclasses to play with and you can field 6 characters per map generally which gives room to experiment. There are many missions where you have AI controlled legionnaires, which is fun, it's a way to make the battle seem bigger than they are. There is actually AI, like groups of enemies may choose to hold a fortified position rather than all just run towards your position.

The side stuff - building up a legion, capturing territory and resources to build up your camp and for crafting, are all an above average attempt and it isn't upsetting like the war map in the Pathfinder CRPGs. It took a little too long to get around to this side game, though.

I'd recommend not playing the ironman mode, the mode with 1 autosave. There are too many times where I came close to having to anticlimactically end my game OUTSIDE of the tactics game mode. An example, a character got an injury in battle, and needed to go to a city to be treated, but he died on the way to the city and it was game over, because it autosaved after the battle. If I weren't literally ten pixels away from the city, and the way the RNG works when reloading, I would have had to start over and that just sucks.
