The game gives me mixed feelings I want to like it, but I can't. I only think it is doing so well because of the nostalgia factor it gives a lot of us plus the goofy parody feel.
Besides the genre attracting people the actual gameplay is extremely subpar.

Pros
-Catching pals is fun
-Mounting/Equipping pals and using them for combat is cool and unique
-If you like factorio or farmville then I guess that aspect is fun

Cons
-Building is absolutely atrocious probably the worst I've seen in a survival game. The house models are also lazy for example why does the roof have a floor texture on the bottom of it?
-Foot combat (using weapons, letting pals attack on their own) is boring
-Exploration is only to find new pals. Once you get all the waypoints exploration is pretty much over as you can just fast travel everywhere. Sure you can looks for Lifmunk effigies and chests, but what else?
-Catching pals is appealing, but you can only do it for so long before it just feels like a chore.
-Dungeons and bosses all look and feel the same there is no variety.
-Farming is extremely buggy and pals do not work half the time.

Overall
If you like Farmville type games it'll be enjoyable for a bit, but once you get a lot of things done there's not much left to do besides maintain your base. Maybe the PVP and Raids will make this game better but they are going to need a lot of variety because the combat is just not appealing there is only a handful of pals that are fun to fight/ride around with.

Extremely entertaining idle-ish game
It becomes a grind but it's a game I come back to a do a couple runs every once in a while
