I enjoyed the game, for the couple of days of pre-patch play, specifically "16 v 16 Capture and Hold" PVP, which was very addictive. Trion's latest patch increased the prices to get Tier 4 lockboxes ( with the fancy weapons ) by a factor of 10. It now takes me 8 hours of PVP grinding, just to get keys to unlock lockboxes, that contain random weapons ( most of which are not viable in PVP ). I'm level 680 but stuck using a weapon that is level 169. I think that Trion turned the game purely into pay-to-win now. I think that Trion expects people to pay $5 for a tier 4 lock box, from the in-game store. People are going crazy on the Defiance forums, over the prices. This patch is a total game killer.

Really cool and addictive puzzle game. The trailer gives the impression that this is an action platformer but it's more about using the Half Life gravity gun, to solve puzzles, such as stacking boxes and pulling fuses ( that power force fields and lasers ). It's a casual puzzle game, kind of like The Swapper meets Limbo but much easier.

I just finished this crazy game using Wesp's Unofficial 9.0 Basic patch.

The Pros:

- Hollywood, "movie quality" dialogue and voice acting.
- Gripping, well written story arc.
- The most advanced facial animations that I have ever experienced in a RPG.
- Interesting quests with great level design ( the haunted house was so scary that I felt queasy ).
- Characters that will make you fall in love, hate or laugh.
- Adult themes that include: sex; drugs; addiction; child abuse; slavery; trafficking.
- The developers had a crazy, dirty, wild sense of humour.
- Addictive. I ended up pulling all-nighters, playing until 6am, many times.

The Cons:

- The game obviously needed a few months of work before being released. I got stuck on textures and trapped between a closing door and the door hinge ( annoying ). NPCs can see through a door, if the door is open ( wallhacking ).
- Stealth is random and broken to the point of being laughable.
- Firearms did not seem particularly useable ( it takes to long for sights to become useable ).
- Your choices don't matter ; the RPG is on rails.
- Melee and swordplay seem so-so in the beginning of the game but grew on me, over time. The end game was a bit tedious though.
- The pacing seems off. The game deceptively starts off as a run off the mill RPG and scales into Spielberg / George Lucas.
- You only gain 1 xp for completing a quest and you need 3 XP points, just to raise a stat, so levelling is very slow.
- There is too much obvious busywork in the game ( running from place to place and running home, to read emails on a laptop ).

Conclusion: I would play Vampire: The Masquerade after playing classic, universally accepted, top quality RPGs such as: Might and Magic 6: Mandate of Heaven; Knights of the Old Republic 1; Deux Ex 1; Deus Ex - Human Revolution.

Vampire: The Masquerade was a great game and recommended but it does not make my top game list, due to the lack of polish.

This game is like an orgy between: "Marble Madness", "Total War", "Monty Python", tower defense games and a lifetime's supply of magic mushrooms.

If you enjoy doing logic problems and solving puzzles, at the tactical speed of Hotline Miami, then this game is for you. The game is currently bugged on the hardest difficulty level, at the highest level of the game ( running out of memory, to load assets, it seems ). You still get to enjoy 86% of the game, you just don't get closure, regarding the mystery of the storyline.

Edit: June 12, 2015. I finished the game - the bugs were cleared up.

Strategic planning by day ( similar to Orcs Must Die 1 ). Intense, guerrilla, Werewolf combat, like the movie Underworld (2003) by night. The game is a must-buy, if you are looking for innovation. I love the music and art direction.

I did not shower for 4 or 5 days because of this game! I lost track of time, it's so addictive. It's similar to the, "Choose your own adventure" books written in the 1980's but from a ship command perspective. The game is hardcore: permadeath, with little margin for error. Expect to die 50 games in a row.

Tower defense meets RPG. Uniquely fun and addictive. The writing and characters are amusing.

A relaxing puzzle game, based around the momentum of a magical sphere.
