I wish there was a neutral recommendation option, but there isn't. So I'll have to say, no, I don't recommend this game.

Don't get me wrong, so far I've been enjoying this game alot, especially when playing with friends, but the game feels so unpolished that it simply isn't worth spending 30 or even 40 bucks on it right now. This game uses joystick emulation, making aiming feel extremely awkward. You can't bind ctrl or MOUSE3/4/5 in the keymapping menu. The FOV seems to be limited to 75, and most character animations look horrible.

Other than that I really like the ideas behind the game. The 3 vs 3 fits the small maps perfectly, and I really like the Zombie Jammer idea. Gamemodes are interesting aswell. If it wasn't for the horrible controls and missing FOV slider, I would recommend this game. I can only hope that Capcom fixes these issues in future.

EDIT: They fixed the mouse issue for the most part, but this game is nearly dead. If you plan to get this, prepare for alot of lag.

EDIT #2: Don't get this game under any circumstances. It seems like Capcom dropped support for it, and this game literally has a daily playerbase of about 5 people. The game itself is still mediocre at best.

Resident Evil: Revelations is the first game in RE's "Revelations" series, it's mainly focused on events that are not directly connected to the main series.

The game starts with Jill and a new character, Parker Luciani, as they are ordered by the BSAA to look for Chris & Jessica (another new character) on a ship called "Queen Zenobia". The game takes place in 2005, about one year before the events of "Lost in Nightmares".

First off, let me start with the setting. The "Queen Zenobia" makes for a great setting, it's atmospheric, mainly consists of tight corridors, and feels great to explore. Some other scenarios include Chris & Jessica or Quint & Keith (Again, new characters) wandering through a snowy mountain region and a kind of "flashback" scenario that shows the Terragrigia Panic. I don't want to talk further about the plot, since it would just spoil things.
I think that the Queen Zenobia is overall the best setting.

Secondly, the graphics. This game is a HD port of a Nintendo 3DS game, meaning that the graphics are not anything to brag about. However, I think they are sufficent enough to underline the mostly dark atmosphere. All the cutscenes are pre-rendered aswell.

The gameplay is fairly slow-paced. It mainly feels like RE4/RE5 with some modernizations like walking while aiming/reloading. RE3's dodge mechanic also makes a return. Each character only has one, unique melee move. Ammo is very important, and enemies will be able to lower your health considerably with just one hit. The healing mechanic is simple: You press a button, your health refills. You can aquire a variety of weapons, but as so often you start off with your trusty old Beretta (Yes, this game uses real life weaponry). You can upgrade your guns with parts that you can find throughout the levels. These parts will, for example, increase the critical hit chance, damage or firing rate. Each weapon only accepts a certain number of parts at once.

Something I somewhat dislike about the game are the silly character designs and some story elements. Most characters look out of place compared to the rest of the RE series, while others look as you would expect a BSAA/FBC field operative to look. The worst happened to Jill, as they decided to remodel her face for some reason. Horrible design choice.
The whole Terragrigia plot seems to be a bit too sci-fi to me (An on water floating city that gets destroyed by a parabolic reflector satellite), and again, dosen't really fit into the rest of the events.
Other than that I thought the plot was pretty good, better than Revelations 2 if you ask me.

This is also the first time we get to play Raid Mode. This gamemode is focused on combat, and is mainly about getting from A to B, destroying foes and looting ammo/weapon cases/parts on your way. I'm a big fan of Raid mode, in both Rev and Rev2. It's a huge grind fest, but if you are into that kind of stuff then you will love Raid Mode. The Trinity reward makes the mode more challenging than in Rev2, since it requires you to take no damage throughout the whole stage (among two other requirements).

Overall, I really like Revelations, I think it's a good mix between survival horror and action. Get it during sale.

Time for a not so serious review.

I played this game for 30 minutes, before I could even start I had to download the latest GFWL client manually since the game would crash on startup otherwise.

Gameplay is extremely generic. You take cover, fire your guns with no recoil, but absurd spread instead and shoot down tons of worthless AI opponents. The AI is horrible, a group of "special forces" will just stand at the same spot the whole time, waiting for you to slaughter them. In fact, at some point I just entered the options menu while I took cover and dinked around with my keyboard and mouse settings for a few minutes. When I came back the enemies still stood at the same position and didn't even attempt to charge at me. Same for the friendly AI, HUNK just mindlessly ran into enemies and knifed a group of these "special forces" guys, talk about plot armor.

Everything in this game basically screamed "refund me!"

Also, did I mention it requires GFWL?

Time for a serious review on this one. I'll split this review into two parts, one for the main game (TPP) and another one for the online multiplayer (MGO3). I won't talk much about the story, to keep it spoiler free.

THE PHANTOM PAIN REVIEW

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain plays nine years after the events of Ground Zeroes. After Big Boss awakens from a nine-year coma, he is able to escape from a Cyprian hospital with the help of a mysterious man, calling himself "Ishmael", and Revolver Ocelot.

The player also gets to create his own avatar, with tons of options that allow you to customize your character.
However, during the game you play as Big Boss, and your first task is to rescue Kazuhira Miller. Remember? The blondy guy from Peace Walker who always told you what to do.
Anyway, after rescuing him, the actual games starts. Being an open world game, the storytelling of this game differs from previous games. Instead of linear level design, you'll have to enter specific areas of the world to start a mission there. Sadly, the story suffers from this concept alot. The Metal Gear franchise has always been story driven, it's not surprising when you get more cutscenes than gameplay in a MG game. The open world concept completely destroys the storyline pacing, instead of the codec or radio, we have tapes, just like in Peace Walker. That being said, the story is probably the weakest point of the game. It dosen't hold up to the previous games whatsoever.

The gameplay however, is a different story. It's great, the stealth in this game is challenging and fun, you can build up motherbase, gain new staff, develope new items and weapons and so on. Overall, this game feels alot like an improved version of Peace Walker. The only thing that could need a slight overhaul is the gunplay. When shooting from the third person perspective, guns don't have much recoil, instead the crosshair widening is mainly what makes the gun less accurate. I personally think that this unnecessarily lowers the skill ceiling. MGS4/MGO2 for example had crazy recoil when shooting guns from both first- and thirdperson. The breathing also just seems annoying. This effect only occurs in first person mode, which feels useless on some guns, since the sights are bad, the recoil animation is too strong or the breathing effect is simply too strong. This aside, MGSV has probably the best gameplay of all the games. It's fun to overtake an outpost without being seen and extract a particularly gifted soldier.

METAL GEAR ONLINE III REVIEW

MGO3 is the main online component of the game.
In four different gamemodes, two teams fight for victory. You can create two characters by default, the first character is your avatar from TPP.
There are three classes:
  • Scout
  • Enforcer
  • Infiltrator
Scout is mainy about sniping and marking enemies, Enforcer is focused on combat with heavy guns and high damage resistance. Infiltrator can cloak and has the highest movement speed, but is the weakest of them all.

Overall the gameplay is fun, you can choose your BGM before a round starts and character. You can switch loadouts after death, but not the character/class. Again, I think the gunplay suffers from the points I mentioned above. MGS2 was much better in that regard. MGO2 also had no regenerative health and headshots were pretty much always an intant kill. Balancing could also need an improvement, however it seems like the development team actively tries to improve it. They release weekly designer's notes to show the player what to expect from the next patch.

What really kills this game sometimes for me is the lag. MGO3 uses a host system instead of actual servers. This means you will often get killed behind cover, get killed while CQC-ing a person BY that very same person and encounter killtrades. Hits don't register if someone else already killed an enemy, but for you (the other client) he still seems alive. All these effects heavily depend on the host's internet conenction. MGO2 was laggy as well, but this game takes it to a whole new level. This is definitly my biggest complain about this game. Konami appears to be too greedy to give us both, actual servers and the host system. Also...for whatever reason, there's no text based chat. Overall, I do think that MGO2 was better than 3. It just felt much more developed.

Serious review time.

This game is pretty good. It's not phenomenal, but better than RE6.

First things first though, this game does have some drawbacks.
Firstly, there's no online co-op for the campaign. I don't know why they thought that would be a good idea, especially since you can play Raid mode with others online.
Secondly, it's not exactly a great console port. If you run on a non-mainstream resolution you will most likely end up with a black screen, which can only be fixed by dinking around with the config file.
The aiming feels very weird when moving the mouse fast, this is due to the fact that this game uses joystick emulation (for whatever reason).
Also, a huge part of the game's graphics are getting rendered using your CPU instead of the GPU. Again, you can blame the fact that this is a port for that.

As you can see this port isn't too great from a technical standpoint, now that we got that out of the way, let's move on to the actual game.

This game takes place between RE5 and 6, you play as Claire, Barry and two other (more or less) new support characters. The game's pretty straight forward, you get a cheesy 3 minute intro and then the horror begins. Interesting is that Barry's campaign takes place 6 months after Claire's campaign. The actions you take in Claire's campaign might affect Barry's later on, similar to the zapping system in RE2. I won't talk much further about the plot, since it would just spoil things. Just saying this, the plot isn't exactly overwhelmingly good.

The graphics are okay, they are not great, but get the job done. The enviroments feel quite natural and fairly believable. Animations look smooth, although I would like to mention that both male and female characters have the same basic animation set, which makes movement look weird from time to time.

Gameplay is really great, unlike RE6, this game isn't a massive explosion/action fest. We actually get to feel some survival horror again. Your health won't regenerate by itself (except for the last 10 HP or so) and ammunition is quite rare, making stealth kills and evasions much more relevant. Enemies won't drop any items whatsoever, so it's encouraged to avoid enemies or (if you are forced to) shoot the enemie's weak spot.
Each campaign has two playable characters, Claire + Moira & Barry + Natalia.
They all have their personal strenghts and weaknesses, so working together is encouraged aswell. However, at some points it feels like the support character is just there to loot the hidden items, at other times it actually feels useful.
Gunplay and movement feel very good. Your guns have actual recoil (unlike RE6's crosshair jumping thingy) and can be upgraded with parts that you can find (just like in the first Revelations) throughout the levels.
You can trigger an evasion animation at (almost) any time, use your knife in close quarters, and hit stunned enemies with a melee move. The melee system has been simplified. Unlike in RE5, you can only stun enemies with headshots, and each character only has two melee moves (head stun and ground finisher). I would have appreciated RE5's melee system here, as I think it has a good balance between action and gameplay balance.

The level design is engaging. Often you'll need keys or other key items (like gears) to move on. This combined with the scarcity and the interesting, soviet looking enviroment makes for fun gameplay.

Now for the thing that will (probably) be one of the main reasons for you to buy this game.

Raid Mode.

This mode can be addicting, while not flawless, it has a great variety of characters, weapons and skills, that will take hundreds of hours to unlock and master.
You'll start off with a level 1 character, as you play through stages, kill enemies, loot items and gain medals, your character will eventually level up and you will gain better parts, skills and weapons to upgrade.
You can upgrade weapons with parts similar to the ones in the campaign. This gamemode reminds me a bit of VR mode from the Metal Gear Solid games. It's gameplay focused, and has a somewhat arcade-ish feel to it.
However, it also comes with a few flaws.
Most stages are just modified stages from RE6. If you've played that game, you'll recognize alot of locations from RE6, a few from Revelations and the game's main campaign. Actually, I'm not sure if there's even a single original stage.
It also becomes unchallenging at some point. Throughout Raid Mode, you'll gain better guns, parts and skills, all these combined with a small bit of gamesense will make you unstoppable even on the highest difficulty. Maybe a dynamic spawn system and less powerful assets would have made for a more challenging experience.

Overall I really like this game. It's a step into the right direction, and I hope Capcom will make a full-fledged Resident Evil game that is similar to this one, but improves on the weakpoints.

I haven't touched this game since the Beta, so I decided to give it another shot, hoping that they improved the game.

I was wrong.

If I had to describe this game in one word it would probably be "horrible."

First off it has the typical "you got this item for the next 24 hours" F2P system. I can't blame you if you already stopped reading at this point.
When I first entered the matchmaking window it greeted me with two "revive coins" or something, which allowed me to instantly revive myself without the help of a Medic. Talk about ruining gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, it's complete garbage. Your primary way of movement won't be running, it will be sliding. You're accuracy while doing so is still high enough to shoot players effectively. This game has one hit kill Snipers, which you can just equip anytime, so there's that. You can aim down the sights almost insantly, overall the gameplay feels like CoD on speed.

Don't even waste your time with this, I already did it for you.

Resident Evil 5 is a fun co-op horror shooter. Unlike the classic Resident Evil games, this game is more focused on action and cooperation with either the AI partner or another player. Personally, I think that the modern RE games don't quite hold up to the classic ones, but that dosen't mean that this is a bad game. No, Resident Evil 5 is a great game. The gameplay is solid: It's a fairly slow paced shooter, with the from RE4 (or more like RE: Survivor) typical run, stand and shoot mechanic. There are tons of licensed guns in the game (I'm looking at you RE4 and 6) and they have great detail for a third person shooter. From a graphical standpoint, this game is still a sight for sore eyes. It got better graphics than RE6, which suffers from several low-res textures and low-poly mesh at many points. Movement is pretty basic in RE5, you can walk slowly, run and use a quick turn key. There's no jumping around, rolling or sprinting in this game, and in my opinion, that's a good thing. In RE6 these features seemed partially unnecessary and felt like they came straight out of a some Asian Kung Fu movie.
The melee system has been slightly expanded compared to it's predecessor, you can now execute different melee moves depending on the enemy's body part you hit and the resulting stun animation. Every character has his own unique melee moves. You can also chain combos with your partner, the last melee attack of the combo will result in a very powerful attack like Chris' Haymaker or Wesker's Ghost Butterfly. The co-op mechanics are decent, although I feel like the game would have benefited from being a single player experience like RE4. It just makes it much easier for the player to dive into the game's world if you are alone, without a partner spamming "Hurry!", "C'mon!", "Hurry!". Nether the less, co-op is fun with another player, and I advice you to stay away from the AI partner, because it's HORRIBLE. The inventory system is now in realtime (again, you can blame co-op for that) and is much better than in RE6. RE6 took a huge step backwards and gave the player a somewhat confusing row-based inventory which dosen't show all items at the same time. Weapons don't need any inventory slots either in RE6, so you will run around with about 6 different guns, lowering the inventory management the series is known for even more. The cutscenes are probably the most action filled part of the game, while they are greatly executed, some just feel a bit over the top. It dosen't ruin the game or anything though. The story has it's weakpoints (Jill being mindcontrolled, Wesker's weakness being the serum, the final boss fight), and makes me wonder why they haven't sticked to some of the earlier designs ( Like Wesker having one of his eyes stabbed out by Jill, and later the other eye shot out by Sheva. It makes much more sense than some serum that was never mentioned before.). It still is enough to keep you going, even though the plot twist in this game is a bit obvious and easy to figure out. Once you played through the main game, you'll unlock The Mercenaries mode, which is very similar to the one from RE4. Trying to get better scores can be addicting.

Overall this is a very good game, but it dosen't quite hold up to the name Resident Evil anymore, not even compared to RE4, which was much more survival horror-ish than this one.

tl;dr:
+ Good gameplay
+ Co-op is fun
+ Excellent graphics for a 2009 title
+ Nice variety of weapons and upgrades
+ Mercs is addicting

- More action focused than RE4
- Partner AI is horrible
- Story has some weaker points
- QTEs during cutscenes

After I finished my first playthrough ever of this game (Never played RE0 on GCN), I think it's time for a review.
This is a great game, I'm a long time Resident Evil fan and this game didn't disappoint me at all. While I think it did most things really well, there were some others that I didn't like as much, but I'll get to that later.

Let's start off with the technical stuff. Oh man, this game is a wonderful remaster. The graphics are unbelieveable good, considering that this is originally a game from 2002. The backgrounds, although pre-rendered, have never been so dynamic, it's often hard to distinguish between pre-rendered and actual rendered models because they are both so detailed, pre-rendered backgrounds have never looked so good.
Force Feedback/Controller vibration is also a thing, even during the cutscenes, and it underlines some intense moments very well.
The controls also received an overhaul. In my review of the HD REmaster I complained about the new control scheme, feeling out of place by making character movement look unnatural and that you need to adjust your stick when the camera changes. While the latter problem presists, the movement feels much more natural now. Definitely an improvement.
You can now also set the refresh rate to up to 144 Hz, while the HD REmaster only allowed 60 Hz.

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON IN:

Next up is the game itself. The gameplay is solid, it might feel strange controlling 2 characters at first, but you'll get used to it. You can switch between the characters almost anytime, and they both have different strenghts and weaknesses.
A weaker point of the game is, in my opinion, the plot. While I love the RE storyline, this one had a few elements that I didn't like. Don't get me wrong, I know Resident Evil isn't know for it's perfect writing, but this one seemed a bit weaker compared to the other games. First off, Marcus in his young/leech/whatever form. The way he looks is just ridiculous, and that chorus like singing...just no. Another point I didn't like so much was Billy's backstory. The guerilla village thing just seemed too forced and didn't fit into the story at all. The message "war is bad" dosen't fit into Resident Evil, we have other game series like Metal Gear for that.
Where this game really shines is level design. It's so good I could talk about it the whole day, but I'll try to keep it short.
First off is are the settings. The train is awesome, the atmosphere of it driving during rain, all the moving objects on the tables...just perfect. The training facility is probably the longest part of the game. One might say it's basically a cheap version of the mansion from RE1, but I would have to disagree. My favoriten part however is the factory. In this part you are seperated from Billy, so you are alone and can only play as Rebecca. Here you will revisit some places from Resident Evil 2, and I would have to lie to say that it didn't make me feel a bit nostalgic.
Then there are also the treatment facility and laboratory, which also have great level design. The way you have to interact with your partner over different rooms is just amazingly thought through, no argument there.

tl;dr
+amazing level design and atmosphere
+slow paced gameplay, with an overall good character switch system
+excellent soundtrack

-plot has it's weakpoints

While this REmaster is better from a technical standpoint, I just prefer the core game of the remake/first REmaster.
