(UPDATE, original review will be below the line)

This will be a short update to the review. But safe to say its easily recommended if a fan of ants, but can't keep them (for me I'm allergic and don't really have the space, in a studio/college dorm so space is super limited). Very realistic. And the recent update pretty much fixes problems of ants only using one nest to nest in, so it isn't overcrowded in any nest. In fact, the original review is really outdated and as far as I've seen, all my "nitpicks" been solved.

Also the upcoming DLC with diggable nests looks amazing.

This is a tentative not recommended. The "review" isn't so much a negative, though I do point out a huge flaw that not a fan of which is the main reason for the not recommended. But more, steam asks "Do you recommend this game" more than rate this game 1/10 (and if it did, I'd rate it a 7 or 8, despite the thumbs down) and I can say, no I do not. But I will probably still launch it daily up to a certain point of too many ants.

I'll get straight to the negative.

Ants only use one nest. While my colony is "small" currently (a 300 black ant colony and 20 or so ants for my stinging red ant colony)...the problem is when that colony becomes thousands to tens of thousands... in one tiny little nest.

There needs to be either far bigger nests available (which would help) or ants need to use multiple nests. There is no point wasting money on multiple nests if ants don't use the nest so allowing you to buy nests is a literal useless feature...except if a nest gets mold then you are forced to move the colony, but there should be other ways to deal with mold at possibly the cost of number/percentage of workers.

Now I do like overall how realistic it is, I've never had an ant colony because not much space and very allergic to ants (though do know there are ants that don't sting, like honeybubble ants I think they are called or honey ants or something. But I do also have a huge fear of ants (and bees) so I got this "game" to help with that))...but I have researched them a lot, and how others keep them and know its pretty realistic.

Sadly, seeing ants just pile up in a huge number in such a obviously overpopulated amount of ants in screenshots people shared, if I ever got to that point I'd just quit. It looks ugly and terrible and not realistic at all, despite most of this simulator being pretty accurate.

Again, remember, this isn't really a negative review. Despite me focusing on a rather huge negative part of the game. Its that I just wouldn't recommend it is all in its current state...if a friend asked me "Is this a good game" I'd say yes because it is..."how is it later in the game though? Would you recommend me playing this if I wanted a big colony of ants"...I'd say "no" simply because of how crowded the ants get, it again, looks silly and dumb. And steam doesn't ask you to rate the game of 10, or if its a good game or a bad game, it just asks you if you recommend the game or not.

This game is really meant for tiny/small colonies, and none of the species really allow that. Nor do the nests allow for large/huge colonies.

you'd be surprised how much ants love to pile up on one another in crammed spaces in real life and in antkeeping setups
