Nothing fundamentally changes in the gameplay from the first, but every aspect is improved.

Base building is more free and open ended, relying less on blueprints and more on it's new "free building" system. Combat is diversified with a larger set of weapons although none are really all that different, new guns and crossbows function much like the prior guns/bow, although the spear is a good addition.

Exploration and the story telling via the environment once again remains the strongest point of the game. Clawing through clues, tombs and the new bunkers, is as engaging as the first is in drip feeding upgrades, story clues, and ever weirder guys that want to kill you.

The scope, narrative and layers to dig under are even larger than the first however I think it loses some of the Forest's focus and scope with its tight narrative. The addition of several cut scenes with other people in it, break through the loneliness that the first game uses brilliantly, but here every few story beats you break that sense of isolation, for the worse imo.

Solid 7/10 in the best way, it's really hard to do this style of open world story telling and keeping it focused and tight, if they can synthesise that with the open world survival gameplay they might stumble into making a 9/10

One of the best game's I've ever played.

The story and gameplay take you on what can only be described as a magical and musical journey through the human experience.

You will cry when it finishes, and come close several times before

A thoroughly unique shooter with style oozing out of it. I've never seen a game mix the storytelling techniques and the FPS gameplay with such class.

It does make you feel like you're playing back through someones rose tinted memories of their wild west adventures, with all the mistakes of narration and over exaggeration that you'd expect.

One of the best single player shooters I've ever played, the style of the game is enthralling and the combat gives that feeling of being in a freeze frame of a comic strip. Turn your brain off, have a beer and relive some wild west legends.

Do you like Portal?

Buy this

A solid 3 hours of physically painful at first, puzzles that rely on changes and manipulation of perspective, whether in shape, colour, depth or otherwise. Once you get in the vibe this game is so enjoyable to play with your very perception of reality, but that first 45 minutes is full of you going "oww my brain hurts"

The story is nice background for the real star, the puzzles. It didn't need to be more and isn't.

If Titanfall, John Woo films, Cyperpunk all got mixed in a big pot with acid you'd get this game.

The combat is 200mph, the gunplay is chaotic, but precise, you feel the weight of every jump, slide, slowdown, and shot and carefully weigh up those micro decisions in every room, and every gunfight.

There is very little to complain about, the main issue is it's story being only 2 hours long.

This is the most fun I've had in a shooter since Doom Eternal, but I want more! On sale, its worth a punt if you like arena/movement shooters and destroying your brain

If you like disco elysium, buy it. No further questions.

The day to day management of money, energy, and doing your choice of "quests" is hellish for 3/4 of the game, and really smoothly works as a way to explore the desperation of such a cyberpunk, society.

The choices you make matter, they all have weight whether you realise it or not, and I rarely made one I didn't second guess. Whether its turning down an easier time to "do the right thing" or thinking you're just helping out only to realise you've helped something you didn't want to because you didn't think or ask what you were doing, they all hit you hard.

The story is woven like the messy tapestry that befits a spinning society in space, each quest is like a thread, and as you unravel one others start to shift. Not only are they enjoyable to explore, they're also real. Each explores themes like, what it is to be human (or not), wage labour, psychology, the nature of evil, capitalism and more.

Although short, on sale it is a must buy for those who want a game that asks questions back, that makes you uncomfortable with yourself and the world, and also has a brilliant art style to boot.

Very atmospheric and gorgeously designed apocalypse game.

When playing on the survivor difficulty, combat was greatly rewarding throughout especially the start where you are a sitting duck in combat, and the final few hours when you're crushing hordes for fun. Hordes, larger ones at least, force you to plan your attack a bit and pick a good strategy whether its involves drawing a few at a time, forcing through chokepoints, training them through traps, or all of the above.

The story is slow to start, and due to its grounded/non fantastical nature relies on you caring about the characters. Naturally this takes a while to happen, early game is mostly about doing busy work with no real variation of the objectives but it picks up to a much better pace after a few hours. If you can brave through what is still an enjoyable, but slow start the story gets far more gripping as you travel to your first new territory.

World design is well done, locations feel real and down to earth for backcountry US, and carry that hopelessness well that an apocalypse should carry. This carries into the audio design as well which is great for everything, minus the guns. Which are still good but they've missed a beat on making them sound a little more tinny and less punchy as say the firearms should sound.

Probably the best zombie game since Dying Light 1, for £20 i got 60 hours out of a single playthrough, and loved it as a whole, just wish the story picked up sooner.
