Really fun if you like clunky builder grinder games like minecraft. Less polished than No Man's Sky, but I like it a lot more.

One of the greatest RTS games of all times... played it as a kid 20 years ago and then T90 brought me back.

After 150 hours, STILL no two games have ever ended the same way. Every game is unique, whether its winning or losing.

Every win is with different weapon / drone / ship build combos. Every game there's new high score goals, and you can try to beat your best score on each of a dozen different ships, or play the whole game specifically to achieve a random goal that is required to unlock a new starting ship build you want to try.

Every loss is different as well, and it's actually fun to lose in this game because it's always some epic story.

Maybe you felt like you were about to have the game in the bag and then you ran into a random occurance of an enemy ship that perfectly countered your build that utterly annihilated you.

Maybe it just got grimmer and grimmer and grimmer as you realized that your ship kept growing weaker as the enemies kept growing stronger and upon the 5th battle in a row, it just dawns on you "This is it". Amazingly, you are able to warp out just in time to save your ship with it's last bar of HP, but you end up warping strait into a pirate ship eager to take advantage of an easy salvage.

Maybe you figured you were on path to win as long as you could simply keep diverting a little power from the oxygen to weapons. After all, you've fought countless battles doing this in many games and never had a problem. But then in a streak of bad luck, the enemy manages to hit you with all 5 lasers regardless of your 40% dodge and the one laser that breaks through the shields happens to take out the oxygen. Which you could have repaired in time, but since your ship was already down to 25% oxygen when you got hit, even after it's repaired, the crew still suffocate to death before enough oxygen can pump back into the ship.

This game has got that rare blend of elements that make something a "classic" and is certainly one of the most valuable purchases I've ever made considering the low cost.

You know a game is good when the negative reviews are coming from people who have played over 1000 hours.

A movie ticket is $10, and that entertains you for 2 hours... so when your dollar goes hundreds or thousands of times further... its just hypocritical to give a thumbs down review.

And hey, I get it. When an update comes out that makes you so upset you feel compelled to quit the game, a negative review is your most powerful tool for getting heard and getting results. At the end of the day, it's the best recourse you have and I can't blame you for using it.

So that being said, if you're new and considering picking this game up, here's what you need to know:

When you remove all the negative reviews from people with several hundred or more hours played, you'll find the status of the reviews to be something like 95%. It's overwhelmingly positive.

And last time a major gamechanging update came out (XP system) that people hated, the developers fixed the change with a future update. I'm guessing the same will happen soon for the "twig" update, that everyone seems to hate (for me it has a pretty mimimal impact.)

If you like sandbox games and freeloot PVP... there's just nothing better. There's plenty of games that explore concepts I like more, but I always find myself right back on Rust. It's incredibly fun.

Couldn't recommend it enough. Even when the XP update was killing the game I wrote a positive review, but I deleted it to write this one (unlike some of the other people who wrote "XP update reviews" and still have a thumbs down on the game for an update that no longer exists.)

If your thinking of trying this game... just buy it and give it a shot right now. It's one of the rare gems that you must try.

4 of 5 realistic survival game

Pros:
-Immersive
-Wolves
-Scavenge
-Don't freeze
-Don't starve
-Don't bleed out
-Don't get an infection
-Don't get lost in a blizzard
-Don't go out too early
-Don't stay out too long when the wind picks up
-Find what you need or die
-Invest your time wisely

Cons:
-Once you know the map, the game gets somewhat easy (proceedural maps would be better.)
-So far only a "how long can you survive" sandbox -- no goals for getting out (story mode coming soon) or thrive (thinking minecraft here)

All in all, very fun game if you like immersive survival experiences. The world is beautiful and cruel. There are no zombies.

I imagine as the game evolves out of early development, only good things will come. Very stable, smooth platform -- there are basically no bugs and just about everything works (it would be nice if I didn't snap every fishing line after catching 1 fish) so the company knows what it's doing and there's a lot of promise... these guys know how to make a good game.

The weather system is downright amazing. Let's say you've used up the supplies at your lone cabin in the woods and need to head out into the wild. You wait until a nice, warm day, and you leave in great conditions. A few hours go by and you haven't found anything. The wind picks up and you start freezing. Disgruntled, you begin the long journey home. But the wind gets intense, you get tired, and as your pack begins to feel heavier and heavier, you realize that walking face first into the wind at half speed might not get you home in time. Then things get ugly when the wind and snow turn into a whiteout blizzard. Not able to see 10 feet in front of you, you lose your sense of direction and get lost. In desperation, you find a rock that sheilds the wind and you light a fire, only to have the wind change directions and put it out. No wood left, condition worsening, and too exhausted to move, you crawl to the other side of the rock to get out of the wind, hundle into your sleeping bag and pass out, never to awaken again.

The only big downside for me right now is the loss of adventure once you know where stuff is. I wish there were a proceedural map because the most fun I had was starting up for the first time, freezing to death in the wind, looking around at the empty forest and hills and thinking "♥♥♥♥... my time is running out fast and if I don't find shelther soon, I am going to freeze. Wait... is that wolf... stalking me? Oh god no..."
