Buggy but fun game with a good story.
Will definitely be a great game in the future once they smooth out all the bugs and performance issues.

Early Access Review
worse than nmrih 1. Battle royale with zombies, with half being extremely difficult to kill (taking 20+ hits with a melee weapon) in a huge map where you're dropped to explore alone and hope you run across other players. Oh also, said players like to speed-run the objective, probably already in a voice chat with their friends outside the game, and you're essentially left to fend off for your own.

Edit: The devs seem to be listening to community feedback and hopefully the game will improve from this point onwards. Looking forward to recommending the game in the future when it reaches a good state of playability and fun.

Fun game, has some bugs and performance issues that should be improved on but otherwise it's a good fun game with deep RPG immersion.
However, many reviews are giving the game a negative review and making a complaint about microtransactions being an issue.
While i agree that microtransactions are bad, especially in a paid single-player game, all the microtransaction items can be effectively ignored as you can get every single one of those by playing the game.
The only exceptions might be the deluxe order items (which give a starting bow, sword, shield and a camping kit). But again those items become irrelevant the moment a player progresses past the beginning part of the game and reaches the first major city where they can buy better gear and camping kits that outclasses the starting items.
I think it's pretty unfair to review bomb and bash a game for obviously poorly thought out greedy monetization practices by the company, Capcom, but completely ignore evaluating the game itself for how good of a game it is to begin with on its own merits.
At the same time i've seen others compare this game to HellDivers 2, when they can't even be compared as they're not in the same genre of games to begin with (3rd person Shooter, JRPG).
On top of that HellDivers 2 has actual battlepass microtransactions that lock actual gear and player progression behind the battlepass which is required and basically mandatory if the player wants to progress and get better geared up in the game as they play, unlike Dragon's Dogma 2 where it doesn't do that and you can get every stupid microtransaction in-game by playing the game, so you're not forced to buy any of them and can completely ignore them.
Yet no one seems to be making a complaint about that and clearly people are giving preferential treatment to HellDivers 2 when comparing it to Dragon's Dogma 2.
People need to be more rational and reasonable in their judgement and stick to facts/logic instead of bandwagon onto emotions and community rage.
I've also written a review for HellDivers 2, which i also own and played, illustrating the obvious battlepass gear progression issue in place.

Sony are Bozo's for ruining a good game.

----- Older Review -----

Fun game but monetisation that locks actual gear progression behind a premium currency. I can't fully recommend this game in good faith because of Sony's shamelessly unapologetic and obviously greedy monetisation, as well as the vehement defence from some community members of the game who want to defend such predatory practices by triple A publishers.
Reminder that this is a paid game, not a free to play game, which costs anywhere from $40 to $70 ($50 to $80 in my currency).

However this review has been revised to reflect the positive outlook of Helldivers 2 and also include the fact you can technically earn premium currency slowly, and enough of it, in order to unlock at least the first premium warbond for free. However it does remain that some gear is locked behind a premium currency which is not a good outlook for a game's future. If it was purely cosmetic and not gear for the player then there would be no issue or point of complaint, but there is as the game is a paid game and not a free to play game where typically you would see a battlepass or premium currency.

I would recommend this game if you like overly comedic games that don't take themselves seriously and are fun to play. I've liked Hell Divers since i played the original one many years ago, and own both Helldivers 1 & 2.

Great fun game. Even better now after some updates and bug fixes to previous issues present in the game during launch. If you love zombie games then you'll really like this. This is the only zombie game that manages to really scare me out of the many zombie games i've played over the years. Also remember, Good Night and Good Luck.

Fun Game, as i'm a Warhammer fan. Waiting for Space Marine 2 in September 2024 and hoping it will be good and fun as well. Meanwhile this is a fun game to play whenever new big updates drop.

Atrocious matchmaking. I can't recommend this game in good faith as it has a lot of glaring issues. Generally many of the gameplay-related issues or expectations can be ignored or worked through later on but the matchmaking is the worst offender currently on the list.

Starbreeze should have stuck with their payday 2 server browser and crime.net style system. The new matchmaking is basically waiting lobby simulator and will need a complete overhaul to even make the game playable. Early access, ironically, was more playable and you could find matches, but now you literally can't. Also the way this new "nebula" system works forces you to be stuck waiting forever in matchmaking trying to get a game lobby. Changing the selection options didn't seem to alter this, whether it was set to public, friends or private.

If payday 3 is to succeed, it will need a massive overhaul on many systems and most urgently this unplayable matchmaking system.

This review will stay negative until good noticeable changes and major improvements on the game are made, and only then if the game is satisfactory, playable, and fun will the review be changed from negative to positive.

I'm disappointed as i'm a big fan of payday like any other fan of the game and sad to see the state of payday 3 at launch.
