If you're looking for a Nostalgia trip, or a co-op game to play with a friend, turn back.
You'd be better off grabbing a Neo-geo emulator or anything else.

This port is terrible. Trying to get a friend to connect would sometimes crash the entire game, and performance is just downright awful.

You can see for yourself in the store's videos. Every second or so, the FPS would dip for some reason. While the game is still playable, it is impossible to ignore such a glaring issue. I've googled everywhere, not a single fix in sight.
Since the developers left those gameplay video WITH the issue, don't expect any fix either.

Just PASS.

Soothing music, minimalistic UI, simple yet fun gameplay... This game is perfect for stress-relief.
Your only goal : Build your proceduraly generated island in order to gather enough points and sail to another.

A sandbox mode is also available for those who simply wish to have fun placing buildings, and not worry about any type of score.

All in all, it's a cute and fun little game for those looking to unwind!

A great side scroller with fun solo/co-op gameplay, pretty artstyle and catchy music.
There's limited replayability, but you still get your money's worth, and player-made levels can help with that.

A must-have.

Initially got it at a 100% discount, but this is the kind of game you buy a thousand times over on account of the sheer dedication and love its creator has for it.

The game is definitely a slow grind, especially at the start, but once you get to a certain point, you start enjoying the game a whole lot more.
It certainly isn't meant for everyone, but almost anyone should find it entertaining to some degree.

The only pressure that exists is the one you put yourself through. The game expects nothing of you unless you wish to pursue the path of the completionist. Whatever you choose, you will find it rewarding.

Definitely a great way to re-explore Deus Ex's vast and dark world.

If you've never played the original before, it's perhaps best to complete it vanilla. But starting immediately with Revision is not at all ill advised.

Aside from the obvious texture improvements and many map modifications (which are sometimes extensive, but still true to the source), the mod improves many of the game's mechanics, from skills and augs, to items and weapons, making some things less redundant and others a lot more useful and viable. It also adds every completionist's dream : challenges and achievements! Deus Ex can truly be a 2010s game now...

Another great feature are the Unreal Tournament style "mutators", which change core and secondary gameplay features to completely reshape the game's gameplay. Harder and tougher enemies, scarcer resources or even randomized loot, the mod presents many options for you to shape the experience you want.
A list of all the changes, additions and improvements is sure to be found on the mod's page.

Overall, while this won't make Deus Ex a standard 2010 era game, should you bear with the dated graphics and mechanics, Revision makes the base game a lot more enjoyable. That's a great win considering how the game already was amongst the best ones out there.

What's it in... Beta? Alpha?
It certainly isn't release, because stating so would be an insult to other actual releases...

TL;DR

Pros[lol.lel]
  • Potential of becoming good
  • Good gameplay, responsive
  • Vast levels, multiple paths
  • Great replayability
Cons[lel.lol]
  • Unoptimized
  • Unfinished
  • Sold as "release", when in truth is nothing more but a kind of "Early Access"... At least I hope!
  • Bugs, but that's to be expected
  • Unstable connection, and the fact that you have to connect...
  • Severe lack of innovation
  • The fast food restaurant of on-demand murder, then again you can disregard the menus of the game.

The Hitman series, a way for many of us to get our fill of strategically planned and surgically performed assassinations, or of cold blooded mass murder once we got tired of the same old routine...
These games might not have been everyone's cup of tea (there's a genre for everyone), but their quality was undeniable. I'll spare you the retrospective, because that would be a waste of time: They were awesome, for the most part... *cough* Absolution *cough*

This Hitman(tm), or Hitman 2016 or... Dammit, Googling it is going to be so much fun!
Anyways, Hitman. A chance at a reboot, after the 180° turn of the lovely Absolution (we all have our opinion here).

A chance to bring the series back to it's former glory, a reference, or THE reference of Stealth games, hell a genre of it's own!
Hit or miss? As much as I would like to give this one the benefit of the doubt (it is after all highly unfinished), I simply can't.
Fact of the matter is, this is sold not as an "Early Access title", but rather as an "Episodic game". Make no mistake, this nomenclature is nothing but a fancy new way of saying "Early Access", a pretext to advertize a game as "complete, with a twist".

Having to wait for each episode does not bother me, no. It is weird, but acceptable. No, what bothers me is how it is sold with no mention of it being unpolished and unfinished. It really feels like playing a Beta?!
Frequent disconnects (because yes, you have to log in...), mild bugs, not so good performance, a feeling of general lack of polish...

And this, is but the tip of the iceberg.

My main gripe: Where Blood Money allowed you to explore all possible outcomes, this one feels like nothing more but an on-demand murder gallery.
Press F1, out comes your menu. From here, you have access to anything and everything a map has to offer. Available assassinations, opportunities, discoveries, you name it...
After that, all you have to do is pick up item Y, or speak to NPC Z to trigger event X, where W inevitably happens. Super, scripted.
Obviously, it is the player's choice to disregard this entirely or go with it, but you'll have to admit it's hard to resist the urge. Locking that info up, encouraging you to unlock it would've probably been smarter.

Last but not least, a general lack of new features.
While the game is FAR better than the previous title, it fails to provide much appreciated innovations, things to spice up and improve the experience, and not make it just an "HD Hitman".
One example: Hidden and Dangerous 2. Now this game is some 13 years old, a real gem (you should definitely try it out if you get the chance). Such an old game had an ingenious feature, shoot an enemy, and their uniform is rendered unusable. No, if you wish to suit up, you have to somehow incapacitate the nazis...
This small, yet so great detail makes all the difference.

Yet Hitman clings to the past, hoping to extract more of that ol' nostalgia juice. Sure, we do crave for some nostalgia, but with a 2016 taste, if you please.

All in all, I sincerely hope this review will become nothing more but a snapshot of how the game was on this date.
There is room for improvement, I will not deny that there is ongoing progress, but I can in no way recommend the purchase of this not even half-finished game.

[Edit] (more like addition): I realize this review is mostly centered around the "mod" aspect of things. "More things" could be said about the game's overall features, but the stress on mods is there for a reason: It simply demonstrates how shallow and unfinished this game is.

Sure, I spent some... 180 hours playing this game. One might say I got more than my money's worth. After all, most single-player games barely scratch the 20 hours barrier, and not all open-world environments have vast locations to explore and plunder (then again, only plunder you’ll find yourself plundering will be scrap in the form of glue, scrap in the form of concrete bags or even scrap in the form of yellow ‘Giddy Up’ toys, so hold your excitement).
But after spending these 180 hours, which I mostly spent running around carrying loot to HQ and building that perfect HQ(s), I can’t help but feel deceived, disappointed.

The previous “next-gen” Fallout games were great (for their time), and mods made them amazing. But with Fallout 4, you cannot shake the feeling that the game was made extremely shallow on purpose. “Make a full and bountiful game? *giggles* C’mon guys, what year do you think this is, very early 2000s? Nah, we’ll lay some sort of foundation, and by 2016 with the release of the G.E.C.K., we’ll leave that work to the consumer!” For some reason, I have no difficulty whatsoever imagining this was an actual conversation between Bethesda dudes.
EVERYTHING in this game is dumbed down… I’m not saying that playing the previous games required a high I.Q, but at least most features had some depth. I could make a whole list, but one simple example should suffice: the dialogues. A stupid console-style wheel? Really? And don’t get me started on the voice acting. It never really was the game’s strong suit, but then why make the main character talk at all.

Mods are already making the game "better", and the release of the G.E.C.K will most certainly take it to greater heights, but unfortunately there are things mods simply CAN’T fix: The storyline (unless modders are willing to go through extreme efforts to re-work it and with it, the dialogues and whatnot…). In comparison, Fo3’s was much better, and that says a LOT...
Sadly, unlike the previous iterations, only a handful of side-quests ‘save’ the game. One thing you should know is that the game revolves around this hideous system of ”infinite replayability” in the form of repeatable quests. The four factions will bombard you with these “Go here, kill this, grab this, put this here […]” quests. 'Yay fun!'
Also, there's no feeling of completion. You saved those guys, you sided with these folks, but then what? NOTHING, that's what. I don't expect to lead armies, but at least give me something, no matter how trivial!

If games ever had tombstones, ”A shallow game with a dull story” would be this one’s epitaph.
One can hope Obsidian grabs the torch and brings us the Fallout game we all hoped for, but why does it have to get to this… It's almost as if Bethesda thinks they're too good to give us a decent game, some kind of an insult.

TL;DR: Mods, mods mods... Mods mods mods. Mo mods? Mods. :)
Try out the game first (by any means… Any) and make up your own mind, or buy it and play 100 hours (or less) only to realize what a disappointment it all was, or get to somehow love it.
Just don't expect anything great...

The second installment of the ME franchise, and another all-time favorite of mine.

The gameplay, which was the flaw of the previous ME, has been massively (hue hue) revamped, making it a more enjoyable shooter, although (and is mostly the case in higher difficulty settings), you'll find yourself digging through the multiple layers of protection your enemies have (Biotic barrier, armor and shield, some enemies combine two if not 3 of them), but this is where powers shine.
Much like the first installment, the game has both tech powers (hacking, burning, things like that) and biotic powers ("super-powers" if you want), you MUST make use of these powers in a smarter way.

The inventory management part has been for the most part removed, all that is left for you to do is simply chose your squadmates' weapons and yours, and customize your own armor (you can only change how your squadmates' armor looks like now, and there ain't much choice).
The whole weapon modding mechanics has been scraped as well, ammunition mods are now powers inherent to your class (if it has any), and weapons can be upgraded through research.
Same goes for the skill trees, their size has been greatly reduced which allows for a greater understanding of what is what and what does what.
With that, the game is a lot more simplified, perhaps for the best.

The storyline and storytelling remains awesome, and the fact that choices made in the previous game get carried over is just great.

In conclusion another hit by Bioware. Do keep in mind that you'll have to count at least 30 hours + (if playing on Insanity, and if you give enough of a damn about the storyline) in order to complete this other epic journey.
Also, it is best to have played the first game, not just because you can shape up the world of the games to come, but because you get a greater understanding of what's going on, who's on and of course... What is what.
Hell, it's a must! Why play this game in the first place if you don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about the story.

No doubt one of the greatest Single-Player experience of all time.
Well narrated, with a very (and I mean very) rich lore: Pretty much everything that's in the game's world has it's own codex entry, from individual planets to alien races and weapon manufacturers. The more you know about the game and it's background, the more you get to enjoy it.

Perhaps one of the greatest thing about this game: the choices given to the player. Even more so, all these choices have consequences. You get to "decide" who lives and who dies, and you live with the consequences of these choices in this game and the ones to come (you can port your character to the other two ME games)

The gameplay of this first installment of the Mass Effect Trilogy is rather meh, slight exception for the biotics (some sort of super powers certain classes can use) that makes it a tad more fun to play, although most of the classes are weak (on highest difficulty).
Inventory management is a bit tedious once you reach the cap (because it is then that you have to delete what you don't want anymore).
Skill trees (yeap, keep in mind it's an RPG) are rather simple.

One of the most boring part of the game would be the planetary explorations.
As a matter of fact, as you have full control of a ship, you are "free to go where you please". Some solar systems have planets in which you can land with your Mako (some sort of futuristic tank) in order to explore said planet to find minerals, artifacts or complete missions.
While driving the Mako CAN be quite fun, the number of available planets is just tooo much, so in a single run it can be quite tiresome and boring.
Keep in mind you don't NEED to do it, but if you're a completionist like me... (and it might be worthwhile since saves carry out through games!)

All in all, a one of a kind (3 actually) experience. Of course you either dig or you don't but if you like rich storylines backup by a great amount of lore, something believable enough, and if you love Sci-Fi, Mass Effect 1's where it's at. The gameplay is certainly not the best, but the journey is worth it.
