I know it looks like a cool game from trailers or lets plays and the concept itself is great and that's what sold me but...

it really isn't that great. It is pretty linear despite almost always having 3 tunnels to go through they all feel the same and you end up in the same point anyways. The tunnels themselves feel boring uninspired and lacklustre. Nothing interesting to see inside. Grimrock was much more fun in that case. Rooms are blend and boring too.

Game stutters in close combat as if you are playing an MMO with high latency. Therefore, I had to max out will power so I could play the game using ranged spells.

However, when I talk about spells I really just mean 1 spell that is called fireball as wind and earth balls are completely useless (they consume twice the amount of mana but the damage increment is so low you'd rather stick to fireball and then you will actually deal more damage using the same amount of mana)

There are plenty of items but most of them are useless. Old gear? Junk? tools? all these are items to be thrown away so dont bother picking them up and save space for food, ore, coin type items and potions.

As for the game length, devs say it should last 10-12 hours. Well I sprinted everywhere while throughly exploring every lucklustre location in the game going back and forth through every tunnel (I explored all ways available to get from point a to point b) and it only took me 6 hours. I didnt rush too. I took my time. So I'm guessing that devs meant that if you only walk really slow-like. Like a snail. But there is enough food to run. So why bother not spriting in empty corridors? If I were to rush through only 1 tunnel (not exploring all others) it would prolly take me 3 hours to beat.

Don't expect this game to be anywhere close to Grimrock. It is a pretty straightforward and clunky game. I wish devs all the best in making their next installment a much better game, this game has promise but it just doesn't deliver. It looks like it still should be in Early Access. Maybe next time?

Boring story, scenario doesn't allow you to build a powerfull posse. Same map is used 4 times. I mean c'mon this is not how you say we have 7 new encounters.

What a great game!!!

Bizzare weaponry and very very interesting scenarios (campaigns). First I thought I'd not like starting over but every time it is so very different. You get to experience being an outlaw on the hunt for vengeance, a gold miner and even an artifact hunter with a pinch of hellish stuff to it. Combat feels satisfying and the abilities are very interesting. It can be easy and it can be hard depending on what settings you select. The Narrative is superb and overall there is this great feeling of wild west to it. A superb game! Buy it!

Don't mind older games and the game itself is fun blowing things to pieces
But you easily get lost and it is a drag to play this

The game was doing so good staying true to the original. Xen started off as beautiful and cool. But then the annoying new enemies like explosive dogs, and easy but forced and samey puzzles and parkour. Stretched out and prolonged for no real reason. Completely thrown original Xen maps out of the window and the original view idea of it. Sure there were a couple of interesting moments with the Lair chase but it was mostly because of the feeling of novelty and then it got old and repetitive real quick. The 2nd chase with those huge aliens was already too much after the Lair chase.

Interloper was a complete failure. Forced the use of one super gun. Added vortigaunt settlements which are not true to the original Xen. Turned the entire Interloper chapter into Residue Processing Xen style with endless factory lines, sneaking behind the scenes, same puzzle repeating over and over, endless climb, boring enemies and boring scenery. Stretched. It was literally stretched because they started re-using ideas to prolong gameplay without adding anything good to it.

Why would you stay true to the original and then change everything in the final levels? They were okay in the 1st game did not need such changes. New xen is a drag to play and I am glad it is over because I won't be playing them again. They should have ended the game in Lambda Core, since it is titled Black Mesa anyway.

And now it is apparent why it took them soo long to finish the game. Because all of a sudden they decided that they were good enough to create their own half-life game from the ground up. Well they were not. Their original idea of Xen is not what it is supposed to be and why it was fun. It overstayed it's welcome too. I can only thank god that they did not create Black Mesa facility from their original ideas.

Xen is also buggy, I got stuck in the same space several times, it is full of invisible walls and instant death teleports should you veer off the course.

The final boss fight was actually fun but it was completely different from the original.

Had to change my review from positive to negative because of how poorly Xen felt.
