It's a really cool blend of peg game and roguelike RPG. Entertaining, frustrating, and hilarious. Worth the money, especially as cheap as it is.

I was really worried about this game after RE3make. Gladly, I didn't need to be. It's really just a great, fun game. The side quests, challenges and minigames are entertaining, there's a lot of little life thrown in here and there like when you've got your follower in the shooting range with you, and there's improvements to old gimmicks from the original that don't feel like they ruined the intent. Great remake, good work devs.
Also, the modding community's been going ham on the game even though it just launched. Expecting a lot more great mods to come soon.

I don't know how or why I haven't recommended this game yet. It's outstanding and it hits me right in the heart. It's a beautiful story (legend) about a few young boys and girls (heroes) traveling a magi-tech fantasy country to become Bracers; guardians and helpers of the people unaffiliated with political affairs. Every playable character is very fleshed out and relatable in some manner or other, and their pasts and motives aren't always immediately forced upon you like so many modern stories of this sort rush to do.

---{ Graphics }---
☐ You forget what reality is
☐ Beautiful
☑ Good
☐ Decent
☐ Bad
☐ Don‘t look too long at it
☐ MS-DOS
It's an old game, and a JRPG, so of course the game isn't a realistic masterpiece. However, the "semi-3D" character sprites, cut-in artwork, few rare animated cutscenes and common character sprites are all gorgeously done. I'm particularly very fond of the "gemstone" pupils each sprite has, which brings the style together in every oldschool Trails sprite I've seen.

---{ Gameplay }---
☑ Very good
☐ Good
☐ It's just gameplay
☐ Mehh
☐ Watch paint dry instead
☐ Just don't
I came to this game for the story, I didn't expect much out of the gameplay. As it turns out, the combat and exploration is actually very deep and entertaining. Learning orbal arts (magic) and applying your orbments in ways that unlock high-tier arts is super satisfying, the out-of-action mechanics like cooking and gearing up and collecting are spaced out well between the game's progression, and the "turn-based" combat itself has a unique flow to it that's both predictable and intuitive to manipulate to your advantage, if you've prepared yourself accordingly.

---{ Audio }---
☐ Eargasm
☑ Very good

☐ Not too bad

☐ I'm now deaf
The English voiceovers in the game are very well done, in my opinion, on everyone except maybe Tita. I've grown fond of each character's voice and look forward to hearing them in combat. The game's music is a delight and memorable tunes from each location or event will have you humming and bopping along whenever they return to grace your ears. The harmonica tune in certain scenes moves me in a way I can't quite describe.

---{ Audience }---
☐ Kids

Not much to say about this, but it's an engaging story with some decent life lesson moments that I think just about anyone could enjoy and benefit from.

---{ PC Requirements }---
☐ Check if you can run paint
☑ Potato
☐ Decent
☐ Fast
☐ Rich boi
☐ Ask NASA if they have a spare computer
It's an old JRPG, it doesn't ask for much from your PC. I have noticed frame dips (to around 30, nothing dreadful) after leaving the game running for 18+ hours, but... I don't think anyone would blame that on the game.

---{ Difficulty }---
☐ Just press 'W'
☑ Easy
☐ Easy to learn / Hard to master
☐ Significant brain usage
☐ Difficult
☐ Dark Souls
The game doesn't hold your hand but it does give you the tools you need to survive in combat. I've only come to a game over in my first playthrough a couple of times during boss battles, and after running through NG+ on Hard I've barely had to think about combat. However, to get to that point, I did have to refine my equipment choices on each character as well as their orbal arts setups, which could be considered a brand of difficulty on its own.

---{ Grind }---
☐ Nothing to grind
☐ Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks
☑ Isn't necessary to progress
☐ Average grind level
☐ Too much grind
☐ You'll need a second life for grinding
I'd say as long as you spend a few minutes in each new field zone farming monsters a few times, you won't have to worry about obsessive levels of grind. Get some money, get some sepith (parts for upgrading magic), and get some monster drops for cooking, and you're good. I've never spent any amount of time after a game over leveling repeatedly to "catch up" to the story; I failed because of poor decisions in combat.

---{ Story }---
☐ No Story
☐ Some lore
☐ Average
☐ Good
☐ Lovely
☑ It'll replace your life
Here's the main draw of this game. The world Trails in the Sky drops you into is BEAUTIFUL. It's so easy to get lost in this game as you travel around on your adventure. Not only is the primary story engaging and compelling, with some expectable tropes and some genuine surprises coming up here and there, but the side quests and even side-side content are nearly boundless.
Almost every single NPC in the game, of which there are tons in every city and even in the field zones, will progress in their own personal stories your story goes along. There's even a couple NPCs that you'll meet in multiple regions of the world who have a developing story of their own travels, who are completely optional to talk to. Every main quest you complete will affect most everyone in the vicinity and you can feel the life of this world as you talk to them and see them react to the big or even the small news centered around your protagonists.

---{ Game Time }---
☐ Long enough for a cup of coffee
☐ Short
☐ Average
☑ Long
☐ To infinity and beyond
Running through the story, the game isn't terribly long, but enjoying the world and running through side quests it's easy to lose time in Trails in the Sky. I'm up to an absurd amount of hours in the game, much due in part to replaying the story a couple times and leaving the game running overnight to listen to its music, but my actual ingame playtime is still around 80 hours or so about 70% through NG+ on Hard, which is impressive.

---{ Price }---
☐ It's free!
☑ Worth the price
☐ If it's on sale
☐ If u have some spare money left
☐ Not recommended
☐ You could also just burn your money
This game definitely deserves your money, and it's a franchise that's seen trouble coming to the West for us to enjoy. Please buy this game if it interests you, whether it's on sale or not, I guarantee you won't regret it.

---{ Bugs }---
☑ Never heard of
☐ Minor bugs
☐ Can get annoying
☐ ARK: Survival Evolved
☐ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs
It's been out for an impressively long time, and I don't think I've encountered any bugs to speak of. I have heard that it's impossible to collect all of the treasure chests ingame, though I'm not sure if that's true or not yet.

Masterpiece of a game and a true labor of love. This game gets a shining and detailed review from me for giving me an unforgettable experience.

Oh, and I'll just add, the sequel to this game is capable of using your save data from this game; and the third follows the same pattern. So you can see a true development through your own personal story if you carry over data and go meet NPCs you've quested for before again in the next games!

I've only just started this game but I have so many good things to say about it.
It's an action adventure game with a huge focus on rhythm and music. Almost every prop in the world moves, slides, bounces, or flashes to the beat of the background music, and if you time your attacks to the beat it changed them better and gives you more points. The timing is tight and getting through a combat scene after stringing together a few perfect combos to the music is satisfying on a level I have difficulty explaining.

It's animated in a cartoon style, and stylized with visual sound effects and comic style cut out frames for impactful moments. Like your last climactic hit on the first boss gives a silhouetted comic appearance with a big kapow labeled over it.
I knew it was going to be a good game when in the first scene the main character is listening to music on his mp3 player, and it's lonely boy by The Black keys. Not only that, but when he takes his earbuds out the music muffles so you can hear the dialogue.

It's probably the most care and character I've seen put into a game in recent years, it gives me similar vibes to some of the GameCube and PS2 gems like Sonic adventure or Tak or Ratchet & Clank. Definitely got some Jet Set vibes too, but it strikes out on its own really well.
Everything's animated so well and deliberately. Your character's running is timed to the music, the cat that helps you is super expressive like its tail flicking back and forth rapidly to light up a strobing arrow like those light-up hubcaps that display something.
And you can pet the cat.

The game's only $30 but I'd have gladly paid $60 or more for it. Compare that to the most recently $60 (or more...) games I've purchased that I wish I'd bought on a 50% sale or higher. It deserves love, attention, and your money!

I'm an adult working a regular job and don't have a lot of time to play games anymore. The past two days since I purchased this game I've gone to work with 3 and 5 hours of sleep, thanks to this game. It's addicting.
The content is really fun, the feeling of progression is really fun, the reward for experimenting is really fun. The fact that you can have multiple ships is really fun, especially using one to facetank an enemy barrage while the other flanks and snipes their cockpit out, so you can send your crew onto the almost perfectly intact wreck and fix it up for a few scraps and then have ANOTHER ship to fool around in.
It's got vibes of Faster Than Light, From The Depths, and many other space sim games. There's already an active modding community and some great QOL mods that the very active developer may look at and consider implementing as features. The multiplayer is great fun too, especially since you can play modded together. (Although, synchronizing mods is a bit of a pain.)
Just get it.

It's actually a good mecha game, the writing is a bit over the top but it feels like that's intended? The combat is actually very thrilling and it does a good job of giving a feeling akin to EDF and Muv-Luv, and the like. I'd love multiplayer but I think it's a very fun and fine game without it, and that sounds a bit ambitious for a solo dev anyway. Haven't gone through to the later game content yet but I'm satisfied with the difficulty presented so far. The game certainly isn't easy but it's also not punishing and forceful about what types of weapons and equipment you should bring.

I pre-ordered this game a long time ago and played it on launch day. It entertained me well enough for about five hours before I realized how honestly awful it was, and I uninstalled it. I asked Steam for a refund, but seeing as I had played for more than two hours, I was denied. It sat in my library until a week ago, sad and alone.
I finally booted it back up with my best friend and I have to say the game is now quite honestly impressive. We've both put a huge amount of hours into it since then, exploring the stars together. My friend really loves refining and crafting and how expansive the economic side of the game is; I really like exploring and finding really gorgeous worlds.
The game has so many different things you can do. The multiplayer aspect continues to be expanded upon; you can view others' bases, go on special missions together, meet up in a hub area and leave together to either of your own areas. There's fighting, pirating, exploring, base-building, factorying, settlement...ing??? The game probably has something for everyone.
And I have to say as a special note, the level of immersion and tension I found when I was exploring a derelict freighter for the first time was outstanding. That's an incredible experience and I haven't felt quite that way since playing Dead Space.

You can combine a lighter and a gallon of gasoline in your inventory and immediately explode. 10/10

Honestly it's a really good game. The sense of comedy is flawless. Crude and ironic. The action is surprisingly engaging, and I've been quite satisfied with myself on multiple occasions for how I ended up overcoming a fight or an encounter.

Also, the Doctor is SMOKIN.

I can't believe I never made a review for this yet. I've only played it for 300+ hours. Straight out, I definitely recommend it. This game has such a wealth of content and such a great story, despite looking so visually aged. It plays a lot better than you might expect, too, and despite having an MMO-style skillbar, it somehow works really well even with a gamepad.
