The Sacred Band of Thebes : Soldiers of the City-State of Thebes (Ancient Greece) that numbered near 300 men. They were so skilled they not only beat Spartan warriors, but went to be undefeated for near 30 years afterwards. Reportedly, their skill came from "fighting to impress ones lover on the battlefield." They were gay, and the 300 men were 150 pairs of lovers.

Carmilla : An 1872 tale of a female vampire whom preys upon the stories narrator, a woman. Carmilla, written by Sheridan Le Fanu (Irish writer) predates Bram Stokers Dracula by 26 years. The novella never acknowledges homosexuality as an immoral trait, and leaves it as a subtle, moral ambiguity.

Chiton Masculinity : In Ancient Greece, men would often wear chiton, a form of tunic which carries similar characteristics to a dress. Ancient Greek masculinity rejected forms of clothing like trousers, which were often worn by the Persians - people who were from the lands we would come to know as the Middle-East - at the time. While the practice of wearing trousers was more conducive to safety from harm or the elements, Ancient Greek masculinity did not take to it, mocking the 'feminine' practice.

Hugh Hefner : In 1955, Playboy magazine published a science fiction story where heterosexuals were a minority within society, against a homosexual majority. When letters poured in to denounce the story, Hugh reportedly said, "If it was wrong to persecute heterosexuals in a homosexual society, then the reverse was wrong too."

AC/DC : In the 1960's, the term - inspired by the two-types of electrical currents - became slang for 'bisexual.' The Australian rock-and-roll group, 'AC/DC', would be formed nearly ten-years later in Sydney, by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.

Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands. : In 2004, LGBT+ activists in Australia created a micronation which used the LGBT+ flag as its national flag, relied on the Euro and was only dissolved when Australia recognized Gay Marriage as a legal right protected by law, in 2017.
