The second big DnD 5e game, after Baldurs Gate 3 as the first. Or more before? BG3 still isnt released yet, Solasta is. It not only has a dungeon editor, but already a lot of new campaigns as DLCs. And tons of community content.

What does BG3 do better than Solasta? Graphics, obviously. Also voice acting and character depth. And (in my subjective opinion) having the official Forgotten Realms setting.
What does Solasta do better than BG3? From my limited time playing it i think actually almost everything else. And not because BG3 does bad. Solasta is even closer to actual Dungeons and Dragons and 5e ruleset than BG3.

Dont get me wrong, the game is brilliant and the most fun with a singleplayer game i had in a while.

Yet if someone asks me if i could recommend the PC version, thats a huge no. Its the worst console port i have ever seen so far.

- When first entering the game, you cant navigate the menu with mouse and keyboard. The whole layout is for controller, which wasnt even connected to the PC. You cant even leave the menus with keyboard, you need to restart the game to get back to the main. You can switch to mouse and keyboard layout in the settings. But not in the control settings. Not even in the gameplay settings. No. In the AUDIO settings. Wtf? Thats not a joke.
- There is some kind of license agreement you need to accept every time you start the game. Every. Single. Time.
- Now say you forced the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ controls to some keys you can actually reach on the keyboard and start beating your first bosses. Suddenly the game minimizes. Why? Becausee sometimes the cursor leaves the fullscreen (!) game to your second monitor, where your click that is supposed to be an attack minimizes your game. Really fun. I heard that From Software games are unfair, but minimizing the game at random points (they are random, i couldnt find a pattern, its not allways like that, its out of nowhere when your cursor leaves the fullscreen application) was not the kind of unfair i expected.
- Stuttering. The game looks like its 15 years old. Thats ok, the gameplay makes up for it. But
1. its locked at 60 fps. Like, for real? In 2022? A game where reaction time is important?
2. even the locked 60 fps cant be hold alle the time. Espacially in the open world areas are certain points where it ALLWAYS stutters and drops. With a 1080ti which is at about 30-40% load maximum and an 3900X which was never above 10% load at all. Thats a joke.
- The user interface itself is the worst i have ever seen. Every quickslot is triple taken at least, no way to add more hotkeys. Every key has a trillion differrent purposes and there is no way to put them on different keys. I have like 50 unused keys on my keyboard, why the ♥♥♥♥ do backstep, dodge roll and sprint need to be on the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ key? Why do i have ONE key to cycle through all of my items, which is more than half a dozen to get to my healing potion, which i then need to take with a different key?

The game is incredibly fun. It is challenging, but 90% of the challenge is because you are battling the technical framework and the game itself and not the enemies inside the game. Thats frustrating.

Get the game, its brilliant. But for the love of god, stay away from the PC version.

Huge balancing and gamemode issues. The game has potential, but should not have been released like that. Might change the review later if they get the most annoying stuff fixed, but right now i could not recommend it.

Update more than half a year later: Nothing changed

Update June 2023: The game is now where it should be at launch. Its an okayish Battlefield game now.

Best RPG ever made. Period.

I never was able to complete any RPG of the last decade or so. I thought my passion for RPGs died when i grew up. But no, its just the RPGs that became ♥♥♥♥. KOTOR caught me like the first time i played it many years ago. Finished it in less than week. Its a masterpiece. A buggy and unfinished masterpiece, but still a masterpiece.

Better UI and more intuitive than X3. That doesnt mean, the UI is easy and intuitive though.
Its still an incredibly complex game, but its now much easier to design a station complex or to use carrier capital ships than before.

Its like a way more casual and easier to learn Escape from Tarkov in a 1890s wild west zombie setting.
More complex than it seems on the first sight, but still no rocket science.
Best played with friends though.

Update after 500 more hours:

I still like the casual-ness of the game. Its easy to just jump in for a few rounds, even after doing a break from the game. Compared to for example EFT there is no pressure to lsoe anything of value, no gear fear and no need to play passively, because you can just jump right back in. The devs deliver updates on a regular basis and the game is right now in a really good state, which is reare nowadays.

Early Access Review
It is early access for sure, but it is 100% DnD and for sure one if not the best RPG of the decade already. And i only played the first area yet (early access is limited to it at this point).
If you want a PC game RPG it might be still worth a look, but be prepared that its an adaption of a tabletop RPG. And thats where it it succeeds 100% at

Schreckliche Mausseuerung. Grausame Texturen.

Best console port in ages. 200+ FPS constant on 1440p. No input lag. Just perfect performance
