Grey Goo is the closest thing to StarCraft II without actually being StarCraft II. The best part of it is playing as the Goo faction, because they have no "buildings" -- all their stuff moves. This makes even a moderately skilled Goo player nearly impossible to kill. Which means that the Goo faction is not fun to play against for the very same reason. Tracking down every last goo after having broken any serious resistance can make games drag on, and somewhat harms the pacing of the single player campaign, until you get to play as the Goo faction and then it's awesome.

The games feel a little slow compared to StarCraft, but the units are clearly distinguishable visually so you will be able to get a pretty clear idea of what's happening, which makes Grey Goo far above most other StarCraft clones out there. (I'm looking at you, Achron!!)

The developers of Grey Goo are real good guys and deserve your support. They added an entire fourth faction to the game long after release FOR FREE! That shows some real Blizzard level dedication to post-release support, and ultimately that's what Grey Goo seems to be at it's core: a well-executed Blizzard fan game.

So my conclusion is: Get StarCraft II. Play all the campaigns of StarCraft II. And if you are still wanting more StarCraft II after exhausting all the StarCraft II content, then Grey Goo is totally your jam, son.

The best thing about this MMO is that you can totally ignore other people and play it as a single-player game. This may also be it's greatest drawback, as there seem to be few opportunities for the social interactions that give other MMOs a sense of story and belonging. The most stand-out "feature" of Realm of the Mad God is it's perma-death system, but once you get deeper into it, it turns out that it doesn't actually have perma-death. Rather than building up the character you are playing as, Realm of the Mad God is actually about leveling up the little Pokemon who follow you around.

The really good Pokemon ("pets" whatever. we know they're all actually Pokemon) are the ones that heal you, and the best class to play as would be the Necromancer, whose attacks not only effectively damage enemies but also effectively heal your character. Once having unlocked the Necromancer, why would anyone play RotG as any other class? RotG's class system suffers from the same problem as Final Fantasy V's Job System: there are a few kickass jobs you max out before too long, and then a whole bunch of useless jobs you don't really need to bother with because what they offer is either too similar to what you've already got or else so specialized that they can rarely be utilized effectively.

Anyway, I can't recommend this as an MMORPG. But I can recommend it as a casual game. If you've got an audiobook to get through and want something mindless to grind away at while listening then Realm of the Mad God is the perfect MMORPG for you. Just ignore other players, get some healing Pokemon and be a Necromancer.

The Talos Principle borrows heavily from Portal for it's puzzles, despite not having a central innovative game mechanic. Story-wise, it goes into hardcore philosophy concepts in a surprisingly legit way for the developers of Serious Sam. So if you ever wanted to stop shooting things in a Serious Sam game and instead wander around admiring the architecture and the pretty skybox while listening to a deep voiced God actor reading lines written by a pretentious philosophy major, then The Talos Principle is definitely for you. Are there people in that category? The game would claim that you are asking the wrong question. The right question would be: are there such things as people at all?

Arkham Knight is the ultimate experience of being Batman. You get to actually drive the Batmobile and then as a bonus, IT TURNS INTO A TANK!! How awesome is that?? I had a great time with Arkham Knight and even found every Riddler trophy.

It does suffer performance-wise though, with lots of frame-drops. The launch of this game on PC had many problems that are mostly, but not completely fixed. Still, the company put alot of work into it post-launch to fix most of the problems and it is fixed enough to be fully playable on PC without too much hassle.

The low poly art style is beautiful, but the developer appears to have left this game in early access limbo to work on a 3rd person Minecraft clone as a separate project after telling us that purchasing the game now through early access would fund further development of Garbage Day.

Based on these events, I am skeptical about the promised story mode ever being finished. Without it, this game is definitely not worth $15 despite the nice low-poly aesthetic. I will change my review if/when we see the promised updates to reflect the state of the game at that time.

This game has great visual design.

And terrible game design. Inexcusably bad.

I should never, ever need to use Google to figure out how to play a driving game. If the player needs to do that, then that is an epic game design FAIL

I wish there were more projects like this which pay tribute to old films, music, technologies etc.

TIS-100 is great for programmers. If you are a CS major who took an Assembly course and found it was kind of fun to grasp the concepts, learn the instruction set and write little assembly programs and would like to do a little bit more of that, then TIS-100 is definitely for you. If you've done any assembly then you can pick up the architecture and instruction set real fast by reading the manual.

TIS-100 is also good for people with low vision because it's compatible with Windows Magnifier! This, all by itself, makes it better than most "hacking" games out there in my book. I'd like to play the "Hacker Evolution" series but I can't because of this issue.

But is the TIS-100 a good way for somebody with no prior background to get their first taste of programming? In a word, no. In two words: LOL, no. Try Glitchspace or Code Combat.

Tabletop Simulator is the best thing of any kind on Steam. Everyone with a brain should get it. Right now. No, seriously, this is the best thing ever. I'm not joking. Tabletop Simulator is the best Internet Poker in the world, and would be worth it for that alone. But that's just barely scratching the surface of what this thing can do. What can it do? Everything man. It's like Garry's Mod for board games, only much easier to figure out. This is the Holodeck. The Holodeck is real, and it's called Tabletop Simulator.

(Further edit: I had written, "It is also a killer app in VR" at one point, but I didn't actually have VR back then. Now that I've gotten to try it in VR, I must confess that the VR mode is a broken piece of crap which shouldn't even have been released in its current state)
