An absolute classic and a landmark title of it's time. It unfortunately has not been well taken care of by Ubisoft and is prone to numerous issues such as crashing and freezing. Thankfully mods help to mitigate some of these problems.

Do the following for a mostly issue free time playing:

- Enable VSync.

- Lock the FPS to 60 and below. Like many games of its time, fps is tied to physics and animations. To mitigate this I recommend downloading Riva Tuner. It will allow you to set the exe file to be locked to 60fps.

-Download the following mod to deal with freezing, without it expect to see freezes every few minutes https://www.nexusmods.com/assassinscreed/mods/81

-Download EaglePatchAC1 and follow the instructions on the description tab.

Feel free to check out any other mods that catch your eyes but I consider the 2 above to be essential. Happy Hunting Assassin.

IT'S PEAK!

I didn't know anything about the Shadow Generations side of this before buying it, purposefully wanted to go into with little outside knowledge and man was I immediately blown away. They took the open world aspects and play-style of Frontiers and applied it to the hub area for Shadow while leaving the stages to play more akin to generations Act 2 stages.

While i would have preferred it was a little longer, whats on offer here is some of the best sonic content thus far. Took me roughly 8 hours to 100% the Shadow stuff.

On top of that we get a slight remaster of one of the best Sonic games of the past 15 years, besides looking slightly prettier and swapping out the voice acting for the current ensemble of VAs, it's still the same game I fell in love with ages ago.

This is worth every penny and I can only hope Sonic Team can build upon what they've done here, Sonic fans have been eating good these past few years, lets keep that going!

I wanted to like this, I really did, but found out rather quickly after you are able to leave and re-enter the book that I'm just not having fun. Might be for some folks, but it's just not for me.

The art direction is phenomenal, the game sounds amazing, the concept is unique and very inspired... but it's just not fun. Feels very slow and the start takes quite awhile to get through, combat is bland and doesn't offer much, and overall while the whole mechanic of being able to leave the book and manipulate the pages is really a great idea, the game fails to capitalize on this concept in a meaningful way beyond leave book -> move to different part of book -> enter book again. On top of this the game feels the need to stop you in your tracks to toss dialogue at you almost constantly grinding the flow to a total standstill.

Wish it brought more to the table but what is here just isn't fun enough for me to want to keep going.

Early Access Review
-EARLY ACCESS REVIEW-

One of the games that makes me wish steam had a middle ground review as opposed to "Yes/No" recommendations. I'm giving it a "Yes" as it is by no means a bad game but if I had a choice I'd give it a neutral "Meh"

Cons:
-Very Linear: As it stands the Early access as of this writing gives you roughly 3-4 hours of content to play through. This 3-4 hours of gameplay felt extremely linear, no real branching paths or sense of exploration. Go to area, clear out boss, get their ability and the key to the next linear area, never return to that area. Typically games of this genre I'd hope for some non-linear exploration of some kind. Hopefully whatever comes after early-access is less linear.

-Slow and bland combat: Combat and movement feels very slow. Combat never felt engaging once to me during my time playing, slash your sword 3 times and move on, maybe mix in one of the over attacks you get as you progress but those sadly didn't make the combat any more fun for me. Your attacks, jumps, movement, and dodges all feel slow and overly weighty. We may be controlling a small girl but she sure moves like burly, large man. Made the already bland exploration feel like more of a chore than fun. Would love to see movement in general get a little speed boost.

Story: What little bits of story we get after fighting a boss feels more like an after thought than an actual component meant to be engaging. Maybe it's just because it's early access but what is currently there is immediately forgettable.

Pros:

Art: This game has a very clear and well thought out art-direction. They've got their own flavor of dark-fantasy flowing through the art and the animations are fantastic. A lot of love went into designing an interesting looking and grim world.

Music: The ambiance that the piano-laden tracks give is fantastic. It does a great job of selling the already great art by mixing in some meaningful and somber tracks.

Stability: Runs fantastic on my machine and never saw any kind of performance issue. Great job on optimization.

I'd say wait for Early-Access to end before picking this up. I may be an outlier in my feelings towards this game and perhaps I'm expecting too much but there's definitely a solid foundation here.

Easily in my top 10 favorite games of all time. I adore the lack of hand holding and the freedom to explore this game gives you.

Buy it now insect

Absolutely phenomenal. An instant classic. It's amazing to see the guys who made cool little flash games on Newgrounds 20 years ago grow to make amazing experiences like this.

Decent game, looks very pretty and I like the use of 3D backgrounds with 2D sprite work. Combat feels like it doesn't have any real weight to it though. Traversal is pretty fun and the pole staff makes for a unique way to get around the areas.

Worth a try, interested to see how the full game fleshes out the mechanics shown here.
