Unrealistic. ANA actually fights the Taliban after Western withdrawal.

Squad is an online multiplayer military simulator/shooter, but that description alone drastically undersells how fantastic this game really is.

It's hard to put my finger on, but Squad seems to have benefited greatly from a thorough researching of the online multiplayer shooter genre, improving greatly upon all that has come before. To give just a small example of what I mean here: Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is, without a doubt, a fantastic game itself, but after sinking hundreds of hours into Squad, Rising Storm feels dated and behind the times in terms of online competitive team play and combined arms warfare. The original Rising Storm and Red Orchestra before it were the height of multiplayer gaming here on Steam in their heyday, but Squad makes it feel like they're decades behind us instead of only a few years. If something has always felt like it was missing to you when you played them, and even if it didn't, I recommend giving Squad a try and experience what it feels like to be thrust onto a team of 40ish strangers that are interested in communicating and working with you to accomplish a common goal. Hell, there's so much talking going on in this game, you might actually end up with some real friends after giving Squad a shot; you might end up with some enemies too (especially those extra bossy dudes who are far worse Squad Leaders than they think they are), but that's the risk you take when interacting with others.

Apart from the gameplay itself, I cannot say enough about how amazing the development team behind Squad is. Few Early Access games have been so playable for so long and even fewer churn out such regular feedback and updates as Offworld Industries does with Squad. Amazingly enough, there are even some servers around that specialize in giving players gameplay from years past when vehicles hadn't yet been added to the game; I feel that alone is a testament to how playable this game has been since its launch. That soon to be helicopter update though, that may just eclipse all previous versions of Squad.

Anyway, give Squad a shot. Strap on some headphones, lock yourself in a room so that you don't annoy your roommates, and prepare to roleplay the hell out of a dying private crying out for his mother as some grisled veteran medic shouts "don't give up!" as he crawls his way to you under fire while hastily thrown smoke grenades slowly obscure his position so he can revive you just in time for a grenade to land on your position. Squad - The only game with the power to make bleeding out entertaining.
