Whilst I sympathise with the frustrations of others with regards to the instability of the launch of this game (which I have also experienced), I appreciate that the developers are overwhelmed with its popularity, and need time to adjust accordingly. From what I've played so far, it's possibly one of the most moreish gaming experiences I've ever had. Ultimately, it's a ton of dumb chaotic fun. And it's just the type of escapism I've been looking for these past few months.

I absolutely love this game. It's shorter and sweeter than Far Cry 3. The story pacing feels better, and it doesn't outstay its welcome. It adds in lots of glorious 80s references and the soundtrack is absolutely brilliant, including some really well placed licensed music. It's the first game in a while that's just constantly reminded me that I'm playing a video game, instead of trying to be an experience, or a movie. Not once does it take itself seriously. I found myself reading all the lost notes and the VHS tape descriptions, because it became apparent that everything was an easter egg to be consumed and laughed at, and just generally enjoyed. In my Far Cry 3 review I talked of weapon pacing and how you feel like you grow at an appropriate rate in terms of the abilities and weapons you can use. Well, all that is out of the window! And you'll see what I mean when you play it. Because quite frankly, it fits the overall theme of the game for it to be like this. You're an all American 80's action hero! You don't do "pacing", or "small".

It doesn't have any rushed or tacked on modes like co-op or any of that fluff that was present in the original Far Cry 3. It's just a brilliantly executed vision, by a developer who had a good idea, and a publisher that generously allowed him to go through with it. You have to play this game.

A thoroughly enjoyable FPS with some great ideas and a decent story. The weapon and skill progression pacing is very fluid. And naturally the weapon/skillset becomes more fun to use as you progress, with some crazy weapons thrown in near the end. In general, the game is designed so you're never short of content to do. The soundtrack is fun, with a few nice set pieces and even some licensed music to add effect to certain situations.

I found the game a tad repetitive after reaching the southern island, and tasks like climbing radio towers and finding relics etc. became more of a completionists chore rather than anything that adds substance to the gameplay, or giving the feeling of rewarding you for doing so (which it should). Also, try to get all of your extra content done before you liberate all the outposts, otherwise you'll find locating enemies more and more scarce!

The co-op mode I think it's fair to say is one of the most rushed and tacked-on modes I've witnessed in a game. If you play this mode for achievement hunting (for Uplay), then you are best off playing with a friend. The reason for this is because if you make a private online lobby, and become the host, you can change the maps/difficulty as required. But in the online public lobbies, you just get thrown into a random lobby / map / difficulty, and have to take what you're given. The only way to become a host in a public lobby is to stay long enough to see yourself become the leader after other people quit. Or hope all the other lobbies are full and that you get to start your own. Only then can you actually change the map to the one you require for an achievement. Which is quite frankly bizarre.. and goes to show how rushed this portion of the game was. It's also quite a buggy mode in general. So be ready for that. The multiplayer section itself is quite derivative of modern day FPS multiplayer, it doesn't really add much to the table.

The reason you'll want to play this game is for the single player experience, and for that reason alone I would gladly recommend it.
