Okay... Far Cry 5... A long running franchise, spanning over 14 years. Usually, franchises that have run this long either end up dying out, or they live long enough to become a re-hash of the previous game and over and over like Call of Duty. So what happened to this?

Surprisingly, Far Cry 5 while being more of the same as Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4, doesn't feel stale. Well, maybe a little, but it still plays nice, and it has some pretty neat features.

First, let's talk about graphics. The Far Cry franchise is known to stride to have stunning visuals, ever since the first game back in 2004, however, being an Ubisoft game, there was a real issue of there being a "downgrade" at release. If you watched enough gameplay videos, or trailers, and you do have the hardware to run the game with high/ultra graphical quality, you will perhaps notice that the graphics do like a little funky, and a few things in a few places in the world are different from the trailers and the gameplay. Other than there, you can't really tell there's been much of a downgrade.
The issue with the graphics comes with the huge wide open spaces you'd expect to see in a rural part of the US, especially if you're playing on lower end hardware with lower graphical presets. Other than that the graphics are simply stunning, and the attention to detail is pretty good.

Soundwise, the guns sound pretty clear. It's actually pretty satysfying to fire .50 sniper rifles, shotguns, and this game has the best sound Mac 10 yet. The .44 Magnum also sounds like it packs some power when you fire it (And it really does pack some power!). The enviorment sounds are also on point. When you find yourself trekking through the forests, you will hear birds singing, bushes, and maybe a gunfight far away. The stealthier predators such as cougars really are silent assassins, so unless you happen to be walking in the vicinity of an NPC and they yell out "COUGAR!", odds are they'll likely be on top of you before you notice. The cars have apparently a grand total of two radio stations. One being a "normal" one, and the other one being the cult radio. Surprisingly, the cult radio has some very catchy songs, meaning you might just find yourself singing "let the water wash away your sins" the next time you go for a shower. Another aspect that shows the attention to detail when it comes to the sounds is that often when attacking an outpost, they might be playing the cult songs on the radio, and you will find that the cultists sing along to it. That is a pretty neat detail.

Gameplay wise... it's much of the same, really. Sneak around and perform stealth takedowns on cultists, drive from A to B, shoot people, blow ♥♥♥♥ up... However, there's been some changes. First, and the most criticized is that there are no more knife takedowns. Kind of a shame really, if you expected you could become an axe murderer in rural america, or if you reall do miss stabbing people with a machete. There's also no grenade takedowns, or stealthy ranged takedowns. As a counter to that, the neck-breaking takedowns are oddly satysfying and you will not tired of them. Other takedowns involve striking the cult members in the face or the head with whatever melee weapons you're carrying, be it a tree branch, a shovel, a spiked club, or a lead pipe. Also your bare fists at times.

When it comes to gunplay, the great change is bullet drop. While it doesn't usually interfere much since most engagements are usually mid/close range, if you decide to go out sniping people, you will find you need to compensate for bullet drop and enemy movement. Not much though, since you won't be doing anything like that at extreme ranges. Farthest I've done was engage snipers in an outpost at some 200m away with a .50 rifle. After a few shots you'll likely be able to get the drop just right, at which point it becomes satisfying shooting people in the face from far away. The main issue with this however is scope magnification, since it seems that even the most powerful scope is only 4X zoom. One could say this was a delibrate choice to give you the illusion of being REALLY far away from targets. It works at first, but then you notice sniper rifles usually have much more magnifying power. Other than that, the gunplay is pretty flawless, the whole blind fire and dynamic cover thing is there also.

One of the big issues that people have been throwing out there is that staying on the road is just asking for trouble, mostly due to a high spawn rate for hostiles. This can normally be sorted by attacking cult outposts, but at this it does seem excessive, especially after causing enough chaos in a region, meaning the cult will now be rolling around in technicals, and they will also send out all-seeing helicopters to chase you. Later on, you will get chased by airplanes. Make no mistake, the helicopters and airplanes are quite deadly, and quite annoying, though, they can be easily countered by LMGS, and a well placed shot taking out the pilot whenever they're lining up to strafe you. As an alternative, once you unlock Nick Rye, you can have him as a companion and just set him loose with his airplane on other planes and helicopters. It's pretty fun watching him dogfight a cult airplane.

The weapon variety in game is... not good. Sure, this is the US and you'd expect to be able to get a military grade arsenal in almost any gunstore, especially in and area with a cult that is prepared for the apocalypse but this isn't the case. The best example is the assault rifles. You have 5 different assault rifles, and the rest are re-skins of them. As far as SMG's go, you have 3 to choose from, 4 if you get one through the ubi club rewards with ubi points. Still, the guns feel like what you'd expect them to.

For the first time, you can pilot helicopters and airplanes. And the good news is, they're weaponized so you can just fly about causing chaos and blowing everything up, if that's what you desire. Make no mistake though, the cult CAN and will often shoot you down with .50 machine gun emplacements, and sometimes heat seeking rockets, but these can be countered with flares if you're in a helicopter. Some of the plane variations also come with cluster bombs, and one of them with incendiary cluster bombs and missiles, so, if airpower is what you want, you will get it. As for ground vehicles, you get your cars, ATVs, technicals, trucks, and once you do one specific mission, you get a big rig with .30 machine guns mounted on it, which is great for causing mayhem on wheels.

History wise, the story is a bit lackluster. Cult takes over a region and you have to work through it with lead, fire and explosives. Nothing new here, however, the main villain is one to rival Vaas from Far Cry 3. The first few times you meet The Father, you will find he is surprisingly... magnetic. While never openly threatening you, or being aggressive, he will make you feel a bit unnerved. Clearly, they picked the right actor to play Joseph Seed, he's exactly what you'd expect from a cult leader. His Heralds, well, they have a personality of their own. They're very well developed too. There's Jacob Seed that would be the head of the "faith militant" arm of the cult. The few interactions you have with him, you will notice that he is a predator, a tiger lying in waiting for the right time to strike with savagery. Faith Seed, she's said to be the "face" of the cult in game. As far as that goes, she seems very innocent at first, exactly what you'd expect from a religious cult trying to be as inviting and welcoming to people as possible, but as you progress through her region, you'll see the cracks show up and her real persona come to life. John seed... He is a bit creepy, and you can see he tries to "flex his muscle" and show that he is strong. His main thing is the "power of yes". It's an interesting rethoric, but not that brilliant. Still, he does seem quite intimidating.

Overall, I give this game 9/10.

This is a relatively short singleplayer game. Well... game... There's not many functionalities in this game, and it is a very much linear experience. Most of the game play is related to puzzle solving so you may advance onward with the history of the game.

At about 4 - 6 hours of gameplay at a steady pace, the biggest aspect that stands out is the storyline, as well as the characters. Some games that have hours and hours and hours of gameplay have often failed to make you feel attatched to the characters, wether they're important to the main plot of the game or not. This is not the case with this game, where it does a VERY outstanding job of getting you attatched to the characters from the moment it begins to the moment it ends.

Graphic wise, this game is pretty solid. The art style chosen helps set the climate for the game, in a war torn Europe where warfare has been turned into a mechanized, super efficient killing process. Though the game does not put you straight on the battlefields, it tells you the story of a family broken apart by war at its start. The first few missions and the last ones are heart wrenching as you'll see how war separates people.

The design of the puzzles in this game is quite interesting. You don't need to be a brainiac to figure them out, they're usually quite simple but they'll take a few moments/minutes to solve at most. And if you're having problems doing so, the game itself will provide you hints as to what you need, so no need to look up online guides or walkthroughs for this game.

If you enjoy being a completionist, boy are you in for quite a surprise. The game features over a hundred collectibles scattered throughout the game. What are these collectibles? Objects that were used by the soldiers, civillians and other war-related paraphernalia. From spent cartdriges, broken bayonets and gas masks to X-ray masks, hip flasks, dogtags and letters.

As for a replay value, unless you plan on getting every single collectible and every single achievement in game, the replay value is rather low. As I said, it is a very linear game, and does not give you any wiggle room to experiment with new things.

The one thing I find rather... bothersome is that this game requires Uplay, so... well... It is worth coping with such a thing in order to play this game.

All in all, I give it a 10/10. The game is solid, the plot is incredible, altough it suffers from some rather... non-sensical things. When it comes to conveying the horrors and educating the player about WWI, the game succeeds quite well, albeit, it is limited to the european setting.

It is worth a buy. Even more so if it is on sale.

Okay so, after having put in some nearly 600 hours in the game I feel its time to make a review.

Graphics wise on PC, the game is pretty solid if you have the hardware required. You can see it wasn't just a straight port from consoles. The attention to detail in sounds, dialogs and everything is quite astonishing! The singleplayer story is interesting, though some characters mainly Trevor just feel kind of... forced. That is excuseable however since everything is in order and with quite some polishing put into it. There's plenty to do singleplayer wise, altough until now there is no word as to singleplayer DLC's like the episodic DLC's for GTA IV.

The bad thing when it comes to singleplayer is mods. Not too long ago, the developers decided that modding this game is bad, and that you should feel bad if you mod it, pretty much killing the entire modding comunity from day to night. That has generate some huge backlash (take a look at other reviews).

Now let's get to the rotten core of this review, the multiplayer aspect of the game. Now, you have to understand, when the game was just released on PC, the first week of online play was quite nice, barring server issues but even those weren't that much of a problem and most of the issues started to rise later on and most of them are still very much unadressed up until now.

The first big issue is the amount of hackers in game. It was worse, but it's still quite bad. Often times you will find yourself in a lobby where you get exploded out of nowhere. Or have an UFO and other things spawned on top of your head pretty much preventing you from doing anything. You may also find that the streets and roads have turned to quick sand meaning you'll end up driving a few feet and your car will get dragged back to the starting point over and over and over again. That won't happen if you're on foot though. Shortly after you will get sniped by someone on the other side of the map as they also simultaneously snipe everyone else. You will also occasionaly be teleported to other places or face people with machine guns that are fed with rocket belts.

Other than the issues mentioned above with hackers, the main issue is hackers dropping tons of money out of the sky on top of you, most of the time also preventing you from avoiding these pickups and turning you into a millionaire by accident. On any other world this would be a good thing but it is not in GTA Online, as Rockstar has been known to occasionally ban players who receive hacked money. They don't really seem to worry much about you getting hacked XP points though, or so the community has pointed out. As of the latest hacked money wipe a lot of people who earned quite a few bucks legitimately with the double money events also had their legitimate gains wiped out with the Smuggler's run update that added hangars and a variety of helicopters and planes.

Speaking of the online DLC, here's the really crippling issue, that seems to outweight the bugs, hackers and everything else with online. While the online aspect of the game is free to play and you can build your own fortune from the ground up, there are "soft pay walls" that will likely lock you out of the DLC content in online as it is quite frankly, extremely expensive. The most recent DLCs, Smuggler's Run and Gun Running are a very good example of one such thing, with most of the content requiring a few millions for you to purchase a hangar and the vehicles you want. If you happen to want cold war era bomber tough luck because it will cost you over 5 millions to buy it, + a few more depending on the hangar of your choice.

With the gun running DLC, it's the same issue. You will need to buy a bunker in order to research the upgrades for your vehicles. Want an APC with missile launchers? You'll have to buy the bunker then research it. But here's the thing, you CANNOT choose the type of research to perform so if you're unlucky, it'll be the last thing on your list. Of course you can boost these research projects at a cost of about 220,000 each, and if you boost them all it'll cost you a whopping 11 millions in online currency. Then you will also need to buy a mobile command center WITH a vehicle workshop and then buy the APC, and then spend the money to add the missile turret to it. Oh, and it doesn't lock on aircraft.

Now you may be thinking that making a few millions in this game isn't so bad... Well... it is. It really is. When you think about a tough grind, you might think of World of Tanks and it is quite a grind indeed, but it's not as bad as GTA Online's. The regular jobs you get from contacts... Sure, do them so you can get a good amount of RP, but don't trust them to net you any significant amount of money. Heists can be interesting if you're the leader, where you'll take most of the payday after the heist finale. But they're much harder and it is very difficult to find a team that will not troll you, will not act as idiots and will not generally just give you a VERY bad time.

There are other options such as exporting cars once you buy the car garage, but don't exepct it to be as easy since you have to source the car, pay for the repair on it if it gets damaged, then pay for the mods if you want to sell it at a high value and then whatever damage it sustains from your warehouse to the delivery point, comes out of your commission. Oh, and expect plenty of military helicopters and jets to try and succesfully bomb your while you're delivering the car, causing you to lose money on it.

You can get around this grind if you can shell out money for the shark cards. The ones that give you any real amount of money that you'd be able to actually spend on things you might like are more expensive than the game itself. And with each online DLC, odds are you'd need AT LEAST 2 or maybe 3 of that one specific card. One DLC comes to mind where the total amount of vehicles and other assets you could purchase totals in the 33,000,000 for all the content, so unless you plan on making GTA Online your full time job, you will likely not see most of the online content. The exception being if you were lucky enough to be playing it when it was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and where around when the "moneypocalypse" happened and you're pretty much an in game billionaire.

And by the way, the online DLC content that comes from time to time, does not get put in the singleplayer portion of the game and you'd only be able to access with mods, which are not okay according to GTA V developers.

Edit - 25/10/2017: As of recently, rockstar has announced there will be no singleplayer DLC for GTA V. Also, corrected some bad spelling and non-sensical sentences in this review.

TL;DR The singleplayer portion of the game isn't bad, but don't expect any singleplayer DLC soon. The online portion is riddled with connection problems, hackers, trolls and is somewhat toxic. The DLC content for online does not get put on singleplayer and is safely tucked away behind a soft paywall (which is actually a VERY thick paywall). The only real way to get significant online currency is buying shark cards that are pretty expensive and you'd need several with each DLC to be able to access all the content.

Everyone knows those two same formulas:

A good movie will usually translate into a bad or mediocre game OR a good game will translate into a bad or mediocre movie.

Luckly, this is an exception to both rules.

While the game is repetitive, since basically you drive from A to B and smash people in the face and blow ♥♥♥♥ up while on the road, the game is rather fun. The game isn't plagued by performance issues at least on my PC, even though I don't fully meet the recommended requirements but still am running it on high settings WITH a godly performance. The devs sure did their homework with optimizing.

The gameplay is repetitive. If you played Far Cry 2 then you'll know what I mean when I say you'll need to drive EVERYWHERE. Luckly there are plenty of fast travel locations that can be quite easily unlocked. The combat in this game is repetitive, be it on foot or the vehicular combat. On foot it's very reminiscent of the batman games, you dodge, parry and beat the crap out of every single soul that crosses your path. But it is pretty fluid.

On the road, the combat is pretty interesting. The cars handle about as well as you'd expect them to handle on sand and rock, that is to say, not so very well, but upgrading your tires helps! Basically, you get as much speed a possible to crash into the other guy and blow him up, before he does the same to you. Your car also has some interesting gimmicks such as side burners so you can get up close to the other cars and melt them, a post-apocalyptic harpoon launcher, that can also launch harpoons with the added "oomph" of exploding tips, a sniper rifle for taking out snipers or vehicles at long range, as well as lots of other sharp and pointy things to grind other cars to scrap, or keep people from boarding your car and beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of you. You can also, of course, trust your shotgun to shoot the other drivers in their face, shoot their tires out, or even blow up their gas tanks, and if needed, defend against people boarding your car.

Basically you'll travel the wasteland looking for scrap so you can upgrade your car and your gear, water so you can keep yourself healthy and eventually give it to thirsty wanderers, and fuel to keep your car running. While scrounging up these things you will come across some interesting objects that say something about the old world as it began to descend into madness, usually upon inspecting these, the protagonist will deliver a one liner with his views about things.

Altough the gameplay is repetitive, the map is HUGE. I'm 10 hours in and I haven't advanced much into the history, as I'm focused on clearing all the tidbits on Jeet's territories. That is to say, clearing out camps, sniper towers, minefields and their "scarecrows". If you are one of those hardcore 100% completiniosts, this game will probably drain you quite a few hours of your life.

All in all, this is a very good game and an interesting singleplayer experience. The graphics are good, the game runs great and the post-apocalyptic vehicular carnage is about as blood as you'd expect it to be, with people getting impaled on your car as they try to board it, cars losing a tire because of a very hard crash, and running down other wastelanders as you drive somewhere to scavenge, all followed by the classic meal of maggots or can of dog food, because that's what's for dinner in the apocalypse.

Edit 23/11/2017: After enough time has passed, I replayed this game. The elements that made me fall in love with it, mostly the car combat an regular, on-foot combat are still very much as good as I remember them. Though, now it does seem that all that driving from one place to another is... tiring to say the least. This game unfortunately lacks the option to "undo" things after completion, meaning that if you wish to go after convoys again... better start a new game.
Other than the tedious driving from one place to another and the inability to reset things once you've completed the history of the game and feel like chasing some more convoys, this game does hold up nicely against the test of time. If you're a die hard completionist, by all means, buy this game, it'll take you a while to get that sought after 100% completion!

The novelty value goes down pretty fast. Basically you trade goods, food and oil to gain money to pay off the national debt, buy goods/food/oil to upgrade the US economy and finally defeat ISIS. Then you win.

You can also bomb and invade countries, but you risk starting off WW3 when doing so. Not really much to do after a bit of playing unless you're an achievement hunter. As far as making money goes, I found that if I had some cash to spare, I could invade North Korea and buy dirt cheap oil right after invading them, then selling it off at a huge profit to other countries.

Oh, you can also make Mexico pay for a wall accross the border, so, there's that.

EDIT: Following the game's goal, I actually turned a small profit after purchasing this game and selling the cards that I got from it. Hooray!

Well, pretty much the game is another FPS with zombies. This one is diferent, however, as it does not focuses on the singleplayer perspective nor totally in buckets of blood and truckloads of gore or mutated zombies to get a shot at the "Best zombie game ever" title. The zombies arent fast (other than sprinting player zombies), and they are not very smart (they're slow and stupid, but if they spot you, they'll chase you for quite a bit).

The weapon selection as of this review is somewhat limited, with melee weapons being hard to come by on the game, unless you're playing the PVP mode (Hunted), where you will spawn with one. The maps are huge, and there are some very subtle changes each time you play, almost unnoticeable from one playthrough to another, but they keep the game rather "fresh".

The multiplayer modes consist of the panic mode (just like Zombie Panic Source, albeit with some changes), a PVP mode called "hunted" (Survivors vs. Zombies) where your cellphone helps you track both player zombies and survivors, helping you either finish them off or avoid them. And two co-op modes, "Escape" where you team must complete a series of randomly generated objectives to escape, and "Extraction" where your team must rescue trapped survivors.

Depending on which mode you're playing, the cellphone has different uses. On escape it'll tell you what objective you need to accomplish, on "hunted", it'll help you locate your prey. On extraction, it'll act as a GPS, helping you navigate to trapped survivors.

Ammo does not grow on trees, nor do weapons, so you'll have to scavenge, and that's dangerous when you consider the fact that a single zombie attack and, if you're unlucky, you'll be infected. However, hiding isnt very... useful on the PVP mode since people can just ping you phone to find out where you are.

All in all, the game is worth the money spent on it, performance wise, it'll run nicely on even machines with 4GB RAM and everything else above the minimal specs. You'll also of course have a good time with the people you play (Not many people play this, by the way). Just remember one thing, can you REALLY trust them?

If you're buying this for the multiplayer then you might as well buy the console version. On PC the multiplayer is riddled with cheaters. There is apparently no anti-cheat software in place on this game, looking up rockstar support as to what to do with such things is basically "Drop an e-mail at this address with this info and hard evidence." which somehow just won't cut it. There is NO server browser. Meaning you're getting connected to whoever is hosting a game on whichever corner of the world meaning you'll need some luck to get connected to someome close enough for you to have a low ping, which you can't check. Unlocking guns as you level up is nothing strange to most players, but you have to buy them with in game currency, mostly that you earn by looting corpses OR if you're lucky to survive long enough, getting kill streaks. And even then the amount of money you get is very little.

The singleplayer experience, while differing from the previous titles is actually pretty good, however. Other than the title screen when you start the game, you'll get no loading screens. They've actually been replaced by cutscenes to give a more dramatic feel to the plot. However, there is no way to skip those cutscenes. The story is interesting, it explains how things went from bad to worse, also explaining how Max ended up in Brazil. After playing for a while you might be able to actually figure out what is happening before getting to the end of the game, minus some rather interesting details that contribute to plot, but just sort of don't tie in with the main storyline.

If you DO manage to actually install this game, the DRM is a VERY big letdown and a big obstacle to playing the game. Not only you'll need to be signed on rockstar's social club, but rockstar's social club seems to be there to prevent you from playing the game. Issues with not being able to connect with to the service, not being able to activate the game and so forth. You may need to look for workarounds for some of the issues, such as the "Failed to contact key server" issue.

Overall, the game delivers a good singleplayer experience if you're into an action filled game, altough it is rather difficult at some points. The multiplayer experience is quite frustrating due to the issues with it (no server browser, lots of cheaters, no anti-cheat). I'd say this game can rate a 7 out of 10, maybe 8 if you can get it to work withouth needing to use workarounds for all its bugs, crashes and DRM related issues.
