Atrocious. I tried to type a review for this game yesterday, but I couldn't rack up the 5 minutes of required game time to do so.

The game won't start at all, 9 times out of 10. I use an Xbox One controller with the wireless adapter. If I have my controller powered on/wirelessly connected when I try to launch the game, it won't start at all. I get a Dirt splash screen, and then nothing. CtD. Disconnecting the controller seems to allow the game to start, occasionally. Reconnecting the controller causes the game to instantly crash to desktop again immediately. Even when I can coax the game into allowing me to enter a race, I'm lucky if I can keep the game running long enough to get to the next stage of a championship.

All in all... It's no wonder this game has been given away, gratis, on Steam and HumbleBundle over the past couple of weeks. I can't imagine anyone paying for it, and for those that did, I imagine refunds were requested.

So sad, really. I fondly remember spending hours and hours thoroughly enjoying some of the other Dirt games (2 and 3) and particularly Racedriver Grid. Dirt Rally is just awful, though.

Honestly, this game feels like a poorly recycled Shadow of Mordor. I was pretty unimpressed by the graphics, and the control scheme is beyong awful.

Granted, I didn;t spend an awful amount of time playing Shadow of Mordor, but I don't remember struggling with either the default control scheme, or my own scheme. Shadow of War feels impossible to get to grips with, Yes, you can bind whatever keys you want to whatever action you want, but it seems as though each key already has multiple other actions bound to it. How am I supposed to know what a certain action does? Will I need to use it for my playstyle? The sheer number of controls is ridiculous. It feels more like a high end flight sim control scheme than anything else. Only the key that you use to raise your flaps is also bound to the same key that the left engine cut-off switch and the landing gear switch are bound to.

The graphics, again, are inimpressive at best. I know, it's a huge open-ish world type of game, but they can't hold a candle to some older games like GTA V, which had a lot more freedom. I can run everything on ultra (where applicable) on a GTX 1080Ti at 110 FPS, so props for that. But the detail just isn't there. I know that detail isn't everything (I just finished re-playing MGS1), which leads me to...

I have only been able to manage around 30 minutes of playtime because of the control scheme. I just can't master it. Space to sprint. Shift to sneak. Mouse 5 to open photo mode? What is that all about? Again, I know I can remap keys but doing so feels like I'm trying to solve some bizarre equation where no matter what I do, it throws an error. I can't just simply remap shift to sprint, and control to sneak, and mouse 5 to anything else because everything has multiple bindings. Sometimes the preset key works for one of the 3 or 4 assigned actions, but what about the ones it doesn't work with? That's where the problem lies. Too many controls. It's worse than ARMA in my opinion.

I'm going to have to try using my XB1 controller and seeing how I fare with it, but I can't see it having enough buttons...

Maybe the story and gameplay makes up for the huge lack of graphical detail, but I can't get far enough into the game to find that out for myself. So, for now, I can't possible reccommend this game unless you have 7 keyboards at your desk and enough arms to use them all at once.

Where do I even begin?

The game uses a stupid PP system, which doesn't actually work. Certain bikes have a ridiculous advantage, even against similar bikes.

The bikes... So many of the bikes that I would want to ride (Yamaha MT-10) are DLC only. And there is so much expensive DLC., often with multiple bikes to make it seem worth the money, but in reality I have only wanted to ride one of the bikes in each DLC pack.

The graphics... Pretty bad, really. Very jagged textures and the modelling isn't great. I would expect this level of detail from a small indie team. After looking into Milestone S.r.l. they certainly don't seem like a small team given how many games they have pumped out in a relatively short amount of time. Maybe that's the problem...

The physics are awful. If your front wheel leaves the ground for more than 2 seconds the bike throws you off. If you touch the rear brake, the bike slides out from under you. If you touch the front brake, nothing happens, and then the bike throws you off. Is that a bend coming up? Just keep going straight, you aren't going to get around it without slowing to a crawl. Oh, even if you manage to get the bike to go around that bend, it's too late: The response is awful. I move the left tick to the left, and there is a huge delay before the bike leans the way I direct it through. Sure, there is a similar delay in Car racing games, but it's often imperceptible. I expect some delay in a game that tried to simulate a machine that requires the strength of a human to throw the bike around the track but still... It's particularly bad.

The rider AI isn't great, but it never is really, regardless of the game.

Bike customization options are lacking. A couple of engine mods, a couple of exhasuts to choose from, and then coloured brake lines and grips. There really isn't much more to it. The paint options suck, too. You get a choice of manufacturer paint jobs, but no customization really.

This is my experience after 90 minutes of play. It's not a brand new, just-released game, so it doesn't just need a couple of bugs working out. It's just broken. 1/10 in my opinion, because I really can't think of a single thing in the game that gave me any sort of enjoyment, beyond the anticipation as the loading screen came up for my first race.

I don't often review the games that I buy/play on steam but...

This game is quite awful.

Don't get me wrong, the single player campaign is okay. Not fantasitc, but it's not bad either.

The multiplayer mode is awful. I can fire up Modern Warfare 2 and connect to a match straightaway. It took me 58 minutes to even get into a game of TDM yesterday. It took 20 minutes to set the game up, and then another almost 40 minutes to find a game. There are virtually no people playing this game, and I bought it to play the MP mode.

Online play is laggy, jittery. Takes far too long to match with people. Everrything seems to requre real money. It's basically a free-to-play, pay-to-win, but-give-us-a-chunk-of-change-up-front, type of game. Not recommended at all.

EDIT: This game is utter S**T! Mic volume can't be disabled, so you have no choice but to mute each player individially. F**K YOU, Activision.

It's 2017: numerous updates later and Fallout 4 still doesn't support native 21:9 resolutions. What a joke.
