A classic from the bygone years ruined by the publisher. Many people having issues running this now due to 2K's need to slap a launcher on everything. Hopefully they realize at some point this is losing them customers not selling new games. We would have picked up the new Bioshock without it being advertised. Now I will actively avoid anything put out of 2K's house even more than before.

tldr; the unnecessary new launcher breaks the game at worst, is a massive annoyance at best.,

Skip the game, but buy the soundtrack anyway. Was hooked on it after playing an hour of a game I'll never pick back up.

I went into Subnautica blind with no foreknowledge of it, and if at all possible given it's popularity I recommend trying to do the same.
It is a beautiful game that mixes exploration with base building. Subnautica has a fun overarching story focus that avoids being oppressive in its impact on your ability to play the game at your own pace.

This game is ideal for that very narrow cliche of people who enjoy and are competent at deckbuilders and who can enjoy unfair twists and turns for narrative.

This game needs a disclaimer that it does NOT support local co op. Even with a reasonably tech savvy attempt to find a workaround, this game just can not support co op for the campaigns on splitscreen, insanity considering it was included with the console release of mcc.

If you're only looking to solo the campaigns or play online this may not be an issue for you, but as someone who only bought the game to play with others locally, waste of time and money.

The online play works excellently and I have been enjoying this product since picking up online play again. With that said my original warning stands for those looking to play locally.

I badly want to recommend this game. The animals are fun to watch, and the basic mechanics are good in concept. But terrible in execution.
Bug issues:
- The camera will occasionally lock to rotation mode, or to moving across the screen, this may be linked to the steam overlay being opened, I'm not sure as yet.
- Staff don't behave as expected and often don't perform their tasks for unstated reasons.
Gameplay issues:
- The concept of "scenery" when not applied to the animal exhibits is both very vague and very time-consuming. The idea of creating a zoo that looks and feels a way you like is a struggle when your employees are unsatisfied unless hordes of misc junk is outside of their workspaces.
- The UI is not overly-intuitive, and finding the construction piece you want can be a laborious process. Additionally a lot of the purely cosmetic items are locked behind research walls, again getting in the way of making the zoo look how you want, while failling to serve a gameplay purpose.

All in all, though the looks of the game are solid, the actual gameplay itself is too weak for me to recommend.

This is a very tentative yes. If, like me, you adore the lore/verse, mechs in general, and enjoy turn based squad strategy then it's.... alright.

Honestly my list of issues is fairly extensive. A lot of them can be confined into "the UI is slow and unwieldy." Hopefully this improves over time but as it is animations play slowly, tooltips are slow and unintuitive, information is in obscure and unspoken of locations, and reminders of the same information will pop up twice before you can complete a single action.

The gameplay also suffers from a bit of RNG fever, but that's somewhat acceptable given the source. Even with that said however a lot of the basics of BT have been simplified for this game, resulting in something that can easily spiral out of control with any significant bad luck.

With that said the game looks alright, the gameplay is fairly fun and I haven't had any major stability issues. That said, caveat emptor.

I really really wanted this game to be great.
I really wanted to wait until I finished it to review it.

But given the last few hours of gameplay that may not happen.

The game looks promising. If SE FINISHES the game they've already claimed is done, it may be good. But for now, wait.

Crash to desktop within 2 hours of playing.
Weapon animations on some of the starting kit are bad enough that they can bug to permanently never fire again (and I mean PERMANENT, reloading or restarting the game will not fix this, short of restarting the game with a new file nothing fixes it)
Bizzarre graphic anomalies like people appearing where they weren't before, and cutscenes having Jensen walking through people. Unforgivable, even if the game did play correctly.

Edit:
Many of the bugs persist to this day, and the game manages to create a larger world but still have less playtime and a less engaging narrative than the original. Worth a buy on a steep discount, but a definite letdown after Human Revolution.
